Breeze’s Blast (Unicorn Princess #7) by Emily Bliss. CHAPTER BOOK. Bloomsbury, 2018. $17. 9781681196503

BUYING ADVISORY: EL (K-3), EL - ADVISABLE

AUDIENCE APPEAL: HIGH

The Unicorn Princesses in Rainbow Realm have invited their human friend, Cressida to the annual Windy Meadows Blast. The Blast is when the Unicorn Princesses ride huge kites up to the clouds. After, the unicorns enjoy a feast cooked up by the dragons. However, Ernest, the wizard-lizard, has cast a spell that could cause problems for the Blast and Princess Moon is worried and doesn’t want to participate in the Blast.

Unicorn Princesses is 7 book series, one book for each unicorn princess. This book was a complete story without reading the rest of the series. A fun, easy read for the young unicorn enthusiast.

As the reader, these stories are starting to blur together for me. The pacing is predictable and I would like Cressida to have some faults or growth.

But I'm not the target audience.

My 5 y/o, despite not having a stand out favorite in the 6 Unicorn Princesses books, loves these. After we finished this I asked her whether it was better or worse than the others. She didn't say, instead talking about how much she liked all of them and how much she wants the two that we don't have yet. She also said she wished books could become real and that we could be in the Rainbow Realm and live with the unicorns as a family. So, she's loving the familiar story arcs and the experience of just imagining life with unicorns whether or not the story and plot are exciting. She would give it a 5.

Cute! My daughter (5 yo) loves these books, and they do seem pretty much perfect for her age. She can easily follow the story, and now she knows the princesses so well that everything feels familiar to her. Can’t wait for Moon’s Dance. :)
