The Disappearance

Rate this book
Tony Bodega’s traumatizing past has marked him forever. After a killer broke into his house and killed his mother, Tony knew that it was his life’s mission to help other people. He intended to do that until the day that he died, but he didn’t want to do it with the police in Tario, the city that brought him up. As corrupt as it is poor, the city has plenty of mysteries to solve for a private investigator. Tony doesn’t need to join the police to help people, he can do it from the privacy of his office, without any of the corruption that comes with bureaucracy.

Things are going relatively to plan—his recent divorce to his ex-wife notwithstanding--until Alana Mays enters his office and tells him that she’s being stalked. He urges her to go to the police. After she tells him that she has and they still haven’t taken her case, Tony decides that he’s going to help her.

During his investigation, he meets Detective Cedric Logan. A police detective that takes a keen interest in the Alana Mays case, he’s also the kind of man that Tony always dreamed of. Openly bisexual, he would love to ask Cedric Logan for a drink—something that he fully intends to do once the case is over. But before he knows it, Tony is implicated in a way that he never thought possible, one that might not just end any chance of a relationship for good, but one that could ruin his life forever.

Detective Cedric Logan knows better than to get involved with a suspect, but there’s something about Tony Bodega that he finds truly irresistible. After agreeing to work on the case of the missing woman with him, Cedric has to decide if Tony’s motives are nefarious or if he really is the broody but charming and sweet man that Cedric is finding himself more and more infatuated with every minute that they spend together.

What another great book by Max Hudson. This murder/mystery kept me wanting to find out more about the disappearance of a woman and who the real killer was as well as if private inspector Tony Boldega and Detective Cedric Logan were every going to trust one another.

Since Tony has been a PI he’s never really made much money and now divorced he barely brings in enough to keep his rent and his assistant afloat. It was his profession that had started the problems in his marriage, but it was his wife’s infidelity that finally had Tony throwing in the towel.

His wife, Mackenzie had wanted him to give up his profession for years because he could be gone for all hours of the night, but Tony never could due to his childhood trauma when his mother had been murdered while he was in the room. Scarred for life Tony made it his job to help others.

The type of jobs Tony had never taken on was one like the beautiful dark brown haired woman that came to his office one day to hire him because she felt someone was stalking her. Alana Mays had called the police multiple times about someone stalking her but they had done nothing. Tony ended up taking the case because the police couldn’t be bothered in checking out the woman’s claim.

It was during this investigation that he met the handsome Detective Cedric Logan. Tony called
Detective Logan to check the police logs for the calls Alana Mays had made to the police about a gray Lexus constantly being parked on her street. Even the Detective noticed something strange with the way it was handled by the police.

Shortly after meeting Miss Mays she disappears and Tony’s caught in her home by the police when he went to check on her after a tip from the detective. He had to go to her house because she had not left a phone number for him to contact her she was that paranoid. From that point on there was nothing but trouble that lied ahead for Tony.

Max Hudson’s weaves a mystery to include characters that all could have had a hand in Miss Mays’s disappearance. There are so many twists and turns along the way with a budding romance between Cedric and Tony that kept me intrigued and puzzled as to who was the culprit. Then there’s a murder.

Hudson brings the book to a conclusion that blew my mind. I loved the book and I would highly recommend reading it if you love a good murder mystery. It’s one I would re-read. I read a complimentary advanced reader copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.

This book takes us on a "wild and wooly" ride. It has ups and downs and twists and curves that keep you reading to find out the truth. Tony is a man who has seen the death of his mother by a serial killer and his like is formed by this. Suffering PTSD and a dedication to helping others he winds up losing his wife and barely gets to see his daughter. Now he needs to protect a woman and her young son from a stalker. Having no trust in the police after calling them four times for help, she turns to private detective Tony for help. Cedric is on the murder squad at the police station and takes a call from Tony as he investigates why the police hasn't done anything to help his client, Alana. Cedric can't get the two out of his mind. Along the way Tony falls under suspicion and Cedric who has grown to love Tony even begins to doubt him. Danger, violence, murder, lies, treachery, nightmares, PTSD, fights with ex-wives, cheating husbands, a serial killer, struggling love, hot sex, learning to trust and the search for the truth send these two men on a dark adventure. Excellent read. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.

Not horrible, just needs work

The story has a decent premise and the technical writing is okay, but the whole thing is in desperate need of proper editing. It reads quite a bit like an essay story for a first-year college writing course, especially with the lack of simple research, and then adding a bit of sexual fantasy. Though not nearly so bad as some I've actually read in Creative Writing courses, it's hard to believe this story was published as is. It does not do the author justice since there are elements that imply he's a better writer than this. The reader I'm using doesn't indicate when this was published so I'm just hopeful this was really early work and he's improved considerably since.

Disappointed

Was not a fan of this book. The author wrote too way too much nonsense information that could have been made in a few sentences. I was skipping pages and still it kept going ... not enough focus on the characters and their feelings for each other for me to make a connection with them. Had the potential to be amazing but for me, it just wasn't.

👍🏼👮‍♂️🕵🏼‍♂️

I’ve just finished reading this 📖- all in one sitting. The story line and characters were very interesting. I got upset a couple of times. But everything turned out well and a very happy ending 🥰

Nope this lacked a lot for me. The interactions between the two main characters just didn't seem real.
