Favorite Quotes:

Paulo was so ditzy that my friends dubbed him ‘the himbo’

Ferret Man is a local Lewisham legend. He’s a fairly weird -looking older man who hurtles through Lewisham in a rickety old wheelchair pulled along by two whippets. But the trick Ferret Man has employed to keep the whippets running ahead is to keep a ferret on a long leash. The whippets chase the ferret, and Ferret Man gets from A to B without having to touch the wheels of his chair once. It’s actually pretty ingenious when you think about it.

I turn around and look up at him, taking in his perfectly chiselled face, the symmetry that never ceases to amaze me. When God made Daniel, he really took his time. He got out his rulers, his protractor, his compass. Regular people look slapdash in comparison, as if God made them after one too many sherries.

De Santford doesn’t look like a millionaire or a billionaire for that matter; he just looks like any other overweight bald guy in a suit. Although I’m not sure what I’m expecting to see, he’s hardly going to be dripping in solid gold chains.

My Review:

Reading Perfect Match was a perfect introduction to the clever wordsmith Zoe May; she is found treasure. I smirked and giggle-snorted my way through this wittily written tale of a dating disaster. Sophia had tried all the apps promising a love connection yet was tipping the scales at over 70 bad dates – she knows this for a fact as she has them plotted on a spreadsheet. Sophia was the last singleton in her circle of friends; even her odd wand-wielding hippy friend had found someone. It couldn’t possibly be a reflection on her though, could it?

The writing was refreshingly crisp and rippled with levity, humorous descriptions, and clever wit. While Sophia was no dummy, she had become rather shallow, arrogantly judgmental, and impatient. She didn’t realize this until the tables were turned in a highly humiliating and amusing manner. She learned the hard way that the grass is not always greener, bigger is not always better, and that money and privilege doesn’t mean constant comfort and ease. The storylines were cunningly insightful yet cleverly comedic. I adored the originality and creativity of the quirky cast of characters, each with their own unique traits.

And score! I found two new additions for my Brit Vocabulary list with poncey which means pretentious and chavvy which seems to be a lower class sense of taste. I would never outright admit to being either poncey or chavvy, although I do have some lovely designer knock-offs… ;)

A fun and flirty story full of humor and heart!

A delightful romcom that made me laugh out loud! How would you describe your “perfect” man? And how would you react if there actually was a man that checked off all your boxes, out there? Zoe May brought this dream dilemma to the pages of this wonderful book!

Sophia has had a string of bad dates, 71 bad dates to be exact! She is the queen of online dating: Match.com, Tinder, eHarmony, Plenty of Fish etc. name the dating site and she’s been there, done that, as the T-shirt! After another disastrous date Sophia has decided it might be time to hang up her dating shoes.... but her BFF Kate talks her into filling out one more dating profile this time she needs to describe her “dream date”... and describe him she does, write down to his precise look: a cross between Robert Pattinson and Daniel Craig, his exact age: 29 and penis size: 8”... so you can only imagine what kind of response she got.... this part of the book was so funny, some of these one-liners were priceless! Disgusted and exhausted Sophia is about to shut down the account, that is until she sees a message from Daniel... Daniel checks every box, Sophia is sure there’s a catch, but after meeting him she finds out he is the real deal.... The face of Robert Pattinson, the body of Daniel Craig, enough money to burn, and even a rescue cat Esther.... Sophia is swept away in the magic of it all, but as we all know life and love are complicated and messy...

Sophia was an amazing character, I absolutely loved her! She was a good person and such a good friend! I loved her relationship with her BFF Kate and her older BFF Lynn.... all the secondary characters in this book were a lot of fun and very well-developed... I would have loved to have been a guest at Lynn’s surprise party! Even Sophia‘s job added some humor to the story.... noodles, Tinsel, A finger bowl, and a pregnant hamster were the icing on this book cake!

A wonderful whimsical witty story guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Absolutely recommend!

5☆ Charming Rom Com

I thoroughly enjoyed Perfect Match,
It was so nice to see a Rom Com that is current. Uses internet dating, it was cheeky, fun, plenty of laugh out loud moments.

Sophia has had a very disastrous dating history, she's been on 71 dates through the use of Internet but just no luck!

That is until best friend Kate signs her up for the newest one Dream Date!
On a drunken night in the girls get started at making up a profile, but this time Sophia decides she's going to write her profile like an add of what she wants her 'Perfect Match' to be like.
She leaves nothing to chance and things get a lil naughty as she adds in penis size!
You can only imagine what is going to come back from that reference lol

But what she does get is Daniel, filthy rich and ticks ALL the right boxs!

Daniel sweeps her off her feet, but for me something don't feel right... he comes across as Fifty shades of grey without the kinky stuff lol
He comes across as a lil possessive, controlling, rude, obnoxious, but yet he worships Sophia.
What could go wrong.

I can't say anymore as this really is a rags to riches/ cinderella story that has a delicious twist that I kind of see coming but I loved it's predictability.

I liked Sophia, she sometimes came across as a lil needy, but she was in love and loved the high life.
I did admire her sticking up for herself when it came to her friends though.

The perfect Match was fun, fresh, kept me laughing out loud, I was swept along with Sophia and her romance. It was charming and delightful.
There are some quirky characters which just added to the charm of the story.

I Would definetly recommend the Perfect Match, it's the perfect book to cheer you up and make you believe in the magic of finding the perfect match... after all they say there is someone out there for everyone!

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I have an odd fascination with the world of online dating, I think it’s probably because I was married well before dating apps were a thing, but I just find it simultaneously horrifying and interesting. I’m happily married and have no real interest in one of those apps, but I do love hearing horror stories of dates gone bad and messages sent by men on them and reading this was like an extended conversation with a friend about this exotic world.

Sophia was a character that I adored instantly, she was funny and relatable and exactly the type of person I would want for a friend. The whole storyline felt really fresh and relevant but it had that old school British rom com charm that I love and the humor was fantastic. I like that this wasn’t totally predictable, there were a few surprises along the way and I absolutely loved how everything worked out in the end. Highly recommended for fans of delightful romances that leave you feeling happy.

Perfect Match in three words: Charming, Sparkly and Fresh.

This is my first Zoe May book, and let's say, it surprised me only a few books could. Though I was not that fond of Sophia from the beginning, this wasn't the end I was expecting and I am really glad about it. More than a romance, this is all about a single girl's transformation to maturity. And more than the love story, it was friendship between Sophia and Kate that drew me to the novel . . . oh, how I loved Kate's acting persona!
But my favourite character, for sure, is Chris. I didn't like the way Sophia just dismissed him outrightly after their first date. What is wrong with a guy who knows about so many things? I was so happy that he got the happy ending he deserved, though not with the one I imagined to be.
On the whole, a wonderful light read that will keep you guessing till the very end. Zoe has put together a plethora of characters who are perfectly matched with the storyline and you cannot help but love them to the core.

Sophia has been on too many disastrous dates and decides to give up on online dating. But her best friend Kate challenges her to try one last dating site and, completely drunk, Sophia writes that her prince charming must be millionaire, travel a lot, and look like Robert Pattinson. So imagine her surprise when a man fitting the description replies to her profile. Daniel is exactly the prince charming she was looking for but the more time she spends with him, the more she thinks that it is all too good to be true.

This is a typical rom-com of a girl looking for her prince charming but with a few twists and originalities that make it an engaging and enjoyable read. A well written, witty and easy-read novel with a funny and likable heroine, a charming villain, an adorable hero, surrounded by a cast of very colourful friends.

I could write about the plot and what a shallow, vapid, terrible human being the main character is. Instead I'll just leave you with the advice to skip this. It's chock full of not very subtle gay stereotyping and a few jokes on trans people. Also, if Sophia joked about Daniel secretly being a woman ONE more time, I might have thrown my kindle in the fire.

Perfect Match was entertaining and charming chick-lit that revolved around Sophia and her many attempts to find true and perfect love through online dating. It was about quirks of online dating, dream of perfect love vs the reality, taking time to know a person over a first sight sparks and fireworks, character over look, and beauty of imperfection.

Writing was smooth, engaging and enjoyable. The setting was amazing. After Paris, London is another place in the world I dream to visit. I loved to see London through story and characters’ eye- The Shard, London eye, tubes and stations, market and fancy restaurants all the places were narrated wonderfully. The story was first person narrative written in Sophia’s charming and refreshing voice. Her voice and view point made story even more entertaining. Oh and I laughed at catheters and poo articles Sophia was working on.

Book started with Sophia’s difficulty over finding her perfect match through online dating. She was 28, wannabe writer, desperate to find her ‘The One’ but had a series of bad luck in dating and boyfriends. She tried all dating sites but it all got her hilariously worst dates. When she got tired and hopeless after her date no 71, her roommate and best friend insist to try one last site. She relented and tried different approach, listed the criteria of dream man- multimillionaire, adventurous, Robert Pattinson lookalike and other factor (which were most hilarious). She was sure she was never getting the man with these criteria but when she found Daniel through the site who ticked all of them, she found it unbelievably lucky. She couldn’t help thinking what’s the catch. (Me too! I was sure he can’t be that perfect)

It was so fun to find out if the Daniel was her real perfect match, can he be fitting all criteria and still be genuine, not a con or hiding something. And the biggest question if he was so great and genuine what he was doing on the dating site.

First 30% was humorous, getting to know characters and online dating, Sophia’s life in London, her job and friends. It was entertaining and moved with good pace with curiosity to know more about Daniel. He looked okay by this point. I knew his money and looks are not scam and he was good in most of the aspect. But as story progressed things started to make sense. (about Daniel, of course! I could see what he was doing.)

Sophia was great character. At first I found her too dreamy and too opinionated. She rejected most of her dates based on her first meeting and first impression. But I understood what she really was doing and why. She thought she might know who her true love will be once she met them like her parents or most of her friends but what she really didn’t know was it’s different for everyone.

Her relationship with Daniel looked great at first. Her new life was like landing in fantasy world all magical and sparkly but as time passed and she got deeper in Daniel’s world and was thrust back to reality. At some point I was afraid she might mess it up with her friends and job, being so wrapped up in her bubble that she might even put everyone and everything she loved behind but I’m glad it didn’t turn out that clichéd.

Her friendship with Kate, Tom, Sandra, Lyn and Chris was wonderful. Kate was cynical and practical. I could relate to her more than Sophia. Lyn was fun to read. This old lady was cute and so lively. Sandra’s hamster story gave extra fun treat. Oh and Chris’ food facts were amazing. He was my most fav character. They all played fantastic role in love life of Sophia. I won’t tell more about Daniel or Chris, you better find it out yourself by reading the book.

The arc of online dating and finding perfect match and true love was well presented. The message of taking time in getting to know a person and develop love over the time was wonderfully conveyed. It’s not about love at first sight, the story very much say you cannot get love at first sight (mostly, I mean), the spark and firework you feel in first meeting based on just good look and humor is not long lasting, nobody is perfect, everybody has imperfections and finding perfection in those imperfection is what makes the relationship.

Third half was my most favorite with Sophia’s development, revelation of Daniel’s all too perfect to be good character and his intention behind being on dating site and even dating Sophia was real treat. I couldn’t guess that. The climax was filled with drama and a bit sadness but I loved how Sohia grew by the end of the book. Epilogue was lovely.

Overall, it was fun and lovely romantic comedy with amazing characters and many hilarious and dramatic situations. I definitely recommend this book if you’re into Romcom and Chick-Lit.

Finding the perfect match is not easy for a lot of people. This is something Sophia has been having a great deal of problems with as well.  But why? Has she been looking in the wrong places or has she been focussing on the wrong things?

Of course you are always rating the looks of the person in front of you first and when there is not that zing straight away you often discard him/her almost as soon as you lay eyes on them.

Is this the right approach? Or you better off with a beautiful empty box or with a more plain looking one filled with heaps of things you dream of but you don't take the time to unpack? They say 'Don't judge a book by it's cover'. I think this does apply to more matters than books alone.

This story is about learning about yourself and changing your views on your future. It's romantic, funny and a bit sad at the same time. The author has a lovely writing style that makes you fly through the story.

I really loved it and I am looking forward to read more books by this wonderful author. 5 stars.

Thank you, Zoe May and RachelsRandomResources.

Zoe May’s debut novel, Perfect Match, is a lovely light read with a few unexpected laugh out loud moments – Japanese soup, anyone?

Perfect Match does suffer with debut novel syndrome in that, at first, the writing is a little clumsy and slow going. I urge you to persevere, however, as the author soon finds her stride and the book turns into an engaging story following the development of Sophia’s emotional maturity. At the beginning of the novel Sophia is immature, self absorbed, and downright superficial! She is annoying, but that is what makes following her journey of personal growth so much fun.

The last half of the book is certainly the best. It is here that you can see the author finding her style and becoming comfortable with it. If you give Perfect Match a go, you may just be pleasantly surprised.

Zoe May has shown potential in this, her first novel, and she is certainly an author I will be keeping an eye on in the future.

Perfect Match by Zoe May is a delightful romantic comedy about finally meeting your “perfect man” only to realise he’s not what you really want, or need.

This was a fun and very quick read. I did have a difficult time connecting with the main character, Sophia. She was so particular about every guy she dated, never giving second chances or trying to work at anything. She thought that it would just be love at first sight. That is what she wanted. As he book went on though, I grew to like her as she realized that what she wanted was a fantasy, and the reality of love was actually so much better.

Her goofy bunch of friends were a great side act. I especially liked Lyn and her son Tom. They were so loving and real. Sophia had a wonderful support system, even though her family was out of the country for the majority of the novel.

I would definitely recommend this book to all romance fans. It is a great beach read or escape novel. Lots of fun here!

All quotes in this review are taken from the Advanced Reader Copy and may change in final publication.

Okay this freaking cracked me up! I was dying while reading this because of all the snark and sarcasm that was coming from our main character Sophia during her quest to find the perfect guy. Of course, knowing that was her goal was something that for me, even I feel that was a huge and almost impossible goal to attain in such a short amount of time, but then she got fun with it.

There were so many quotes throughout this novel that I had to highlight because I died laughing, and I was like “wowwwwwww is America just this boring or is Great Britain just this funny” because some of the insults and comments Sophia would think or say out loud just had me dying. Like I need to get into more British comedy or something, and I love seeing it in romance novels like this because then I get to feel like I’m well traveled or something. Wow that sounded so dumb, but hopefully you know what I mean. I know I felt like I had to look some of the phrases up to make sure I was understanding it correctly, but that is honestly the beauty of reading books that don’t take place in a setting that you’re used to. You get to learn new lingo.

Actually I’m only going to share some with you guys because you’re just going to have to read it to find out yourself, but I was dying okay? I think I said that multiple times already, but that’s how much I thought it was funny, and I honestly just could not get over it. I was laughing while reading this whole thing. Yeah there were times where I felt bad for Sophia or was irritated with her roommate for something, but this book just gave me a good feeling all around and I’m glad I got to read it!

I would say this is one of the few romantic comedy novels that I would not mind rereading every once in a while, coming from someone who does not like to reread books anymore. Who doesn’t have the TIME to reread anymore because she likes to sign up for every blog tour under the sea to support different genres and all that jazz. But I may come back to this one next year and see Sophia’s growth from her horrible, horrible, just terrible first date with noodle guy to her flirtation with RPatz lookalike Daniel, and everything in between and all around.

I mean WTF right? This was hilarious.

Oh I’m sure it does, Sophia. I’m sure it does.

This is billed as a rom-com, but frankly I don’t think it qualifies. The endgame love interest barely appears in the book and the main couple only get together in the epilogue, a massive episode of ‘telling’ which could and should have been expanded into the book - it would have been a much better story than half of what actually made it in. Sophia, the protagonist, spends a large part of the book in a relationship with someone else entirely. It’s more a story about Sophia coming to recognize how shallow she is (very, very shallow) and finally making some changes in her life in order to make herself into a person who’s actually ready for a genuine, long-term romantic relationship. I’d call it women’s fiction with some comic elements rather than any sort of romance.

There are some funny bits in there about Sophia’s use of dating sites, and any woman who’s tried to online date will find the unsolicited filthy messages she gets all too depressingly familiar, but anything funny was completely wrecked for me when Sophia made some transphobic jokes to one of her love interests. It was horrible and unnecessary, and cemented my dislike of her as a shallow, selfish little cow far too fixated on surface appearances. With some token gay friends and not one person of colour as a named character, this massively failed on representing the incredibly diverse city that London actually is. Having just watched Last Christmas this week (that’s the REAL London I know), I’d say give this book a miss and go watch the movie instead. It’s a lot funnier and has a much nicer heroine who doesn’t make horrible transphobic jokes. This is getting a one star from me.

This is a witty, intelligent, warm debut from Zoe May. Although social media/online dating based books aren't that uncommon now due to how the dating game has changed in the past decade, and how we are all now glued to our phones, this book is original and keeps you guessing throughout which I thought was really refreshing.

This isn't a novel of boy meets girl and everything fairy tale and whimsical happens under the London skyline, oh no, you need to buckle up and enjoy the ride. It is a raw, thought-provoking account of modern dating including all the perils of ghosting, dick-pics, harassment and dating site algorithms; however, it also covers friendships, family, careers, house-sharing, as well as providing an insight in to class differences and social expectations vs realities particularly well.

There are some very funny antics, but what I especially enjoyed was the way that the main character, Sophia, is written and how you experience her outlook and approach maturing throughout the story. At the start of the book there were quite a few aspects of her personality (being a bit of a slacker at work, judgmental behaviour, shallow expectations) that I felt were far from ideal and I struggled to relate, however as the story evolves and you chart her journey you see what insecurities underpin her actions and the growth she is going through.

I found the ending gripping and without any hints or spoilers it really doesn't disappoint, this is a very strong writing debut and deserves a lot of success.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this advanced copy to review honestly.

If I had to choose one word to describe this book, it would be endearing. There are comedic elements, romantic elements, sentimental elements, and honestly, it's an incredible debut offering. I look forward to more of Zoe May's books in the future.

DNF at 6%, I guess?

You cannot really trust free samples. I bought this book because it wasn't pricey and I liked the sample well enough to want to get another light read. What I did not expect, though, was how disgustingly un-clean and graphic the book would get, and how soon. Making that sample just a couple of pages longer would have been enough, and I would not have bothered. I am returning it.

Perfect Match was such a delight. Funny and unexpectedly insightful, this was the kind of romcom that’s perfect for when you need to escape the real world for a few hours and have a good laugh.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite sold when I first started reading. The beginning was a bit slow and didn’t hook me right away. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was curious enough to keep reading. Sophia had a habit of finding minor flaws in a guy and not taking things further because there wasn’t an instant connection or she couldn’t get past his flaws. Basically she was looking for the perfect guy, and she thought she found him in mega-rich Robert Pattinson look-alike, Daniel...until she realized perfect isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, and neither is having more money than sense.

I really enjoyed watching Sophia grow, learn, and come into her own. She had help along the way from her friends, who were great side characters, and through her own misadventures in dating, she began to learn things about herself, life, and love. I appreciated that she ultimately learned there’s no such thing as the perfect man...but there can be a man who’s perfect for her. I also appreciated the lesson that just because you don’t experience love at first sight or an instant connection with someone doesn’t mean that person isn’t right for you. Attraction can grow, and connections are made over time - and that applies to more than just romantic relationships. It’s actually a pretty fitting lesson, considering I wasn’t sure at first if this book would be a ‘perfect match’ for me, but I ended up loving it.

Perfect Match by Zoe May a true five-star read. I am becoming a huge Zoe May fan, there is just a humour to her writing that just has surprises and joy on every page. This one doesn’t disappoint, the characters are so well done that they are real, I didn’t like Sophia all the time, and that just made her more of a rounded character for me. If you are looking for romantic and funny, or you need some commiserations over a terrible dating experience then this is the one for you. Even if you don’t need the dating commiserations then this is for you, it’s funny and honest and a story you need to read.

Sophia is an expert at online dating. She knows which pictures to use, what questions to ask, and she’s even created a boilerplate bio that she knows gets results. The only thing she can’t seem to do is to find the perfect match. After 71 dates with guys who are never quite what she wants, she’s ready to admit defeat. But when her roommate Kate insists she give it one more try on a different dating site, Sophia decides to do things differently. This time she holds nothing back and decides to look for the perfect man, the one she’d only expect to find in her wildest dreams.

He must look like Robert Pattinson.

He must be filthy rich.

He must travel for work.

He must have a rescue cat.

And to take it one step further, he must have very specific measurements inside his jeans.
Sophia never expects to find the man she described. In fact, her description of him was fueled by her assumption that the perfect guy for her wasn’t out there and never would be. But then she meets Daniel. He’s everything she said she wanted and – within a few weeks – she’s nearly moved in. Daniel dotes on her. He spoils her. No matter how unbelievable it seems to Kate, Sophia believes she’s found her perfect match. Or has she?

“The Perfect Match” by Zoe May is more than just a romance novel. It’s a social commentary on modern-day dating. Her character Sophia is an independent young woman with a career and a strong network of friends. She’s hardly the weak female you find in dime store romance novels who’s looking for a man to save her from herself. Instead, Sophia just wants what we all want: the right guy for her. Someone to love who loves her too. Since life leaves little time to let nature takes its course, she does like millions of others do daily. She turns to online dating.

Any woman, regardless of age, who has tried online dating for herself will be able to relate to Sophia in the “Perfect Match”. Author Zoe May is witty. She could probably make an encyclopedia entry chuckle-worthy. What’s more, her writing style is smooth and easy to enjoy. There aren’t hiccups that pull you out of the story – or slow-downs that make you look around for something better to do.

Yet, what makes the book so laugh-out-loud hilarious and impossible to put down is the truth behind the fiction. “Perfect Match” is as relatable as it is entertaining. If you’ve tried online dating, you’ll discover Sophia’s experiences aren’t so unlike yours. Even the guys she meets, from Bad Date #71 to the perfect Daniel are caricatures of the all-wrong ones we’ve dated before — and the ones that finally feel so right.

“Perfect Match” is full of the romance you expect in the genre, as well as the happy ending you crave. It might even make you think twice the next time you venture into online dating.

Sophia Jones is a copy editor at a medical research journal, an aspiring novelist, and part of a circle of friends she's known since university days. Most of her friends are paired off now, but she's still searching for her perfect match. She's been doing that mainly by way of online dating sites. The results have been dismal. The latest is a boring young man called Chris, who spouts endless streams of facts about food, and engages in battle board games with little figurines. The figurines part seems especially silly and pointless to Sophia. And really, who needs to know all those facts about noodles?

She is not giving that guy a second chance.

In fact, she almost decides to stop looking for someone at all. She's tried most of the dating sites, and hasn't found anyone worthwhile. Her friend and roommate, Kate, though, persuades her to give it one more go, on one more site. This time, she's going to do a wildly crazy and explicit profile outlining her perfect man. A multimillionaire, who travels, and who among other details has very specific measurements in a certain body part.

And among all the predictably awful responses, she gets one from a guy who meets every requirement. Sophia is soon dating Daniel, who is handsome, ripped, charming, rich, and loves spending money on her. What could be better?

Meanwhile, purely through chance, she meets Chris again, and starts to get a less jaundiced view of him. He's really a nice guy, a sweet guy, not even as dull as she thought he was. He's not the guy she wants, but there's someone out there for him.

Daniel continues to wow her, except, along the way, there are some hitches. He's annoyed when she drags him off to an impromptu party to celebrate actor Kate landing the role of Mollie Ralston in Mousetrap. They always do what he wants to do, always go places he likes--places where she's always a little off balance, private clubs and five-star Michelin restaurants. They even only watch the tv programs he likes.

Is something wrong here?

We're also getting to know Sophia's friend, an eclectic and interesting, and very likable, circle of people.

It's all quite well done, and goes interesting places.

Recommended.

After reading As Luck Would Have It last summer, I promised myself that I’d go back and read Zoë’s other books when I had the chance. *rolls eyes* Yup, you’ve guessed it, I went off on a tangent again and never got around to it *shrugs*. But Perfect Match’s book birthday gave me the perfect *snorts* excuse to pick the book up! *whispers* Well, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Sophia’s story was just the tonic I needed this week. It was belly laughs and snort-giggles galore! Along with the odd cringe-worthy scene (I’ll never look at finger dipping bowl the same again *smirks*) thrown in and sprinkled generously with emotion. I mean, let’s be real here for a second, in this day and age, who doesn’t have their own ‘perils of internet dating’ story?

Stop looking at me like that *blushes*. That is a story for another time *clears throat*.

As one can attest, Unrealistic Expectation-itis does indeed exist, and Sophia is a fellow sufferer. Why settle when you want it all, aka Mr Perfect? Am I right, ladies? Hence why I’m still single with three cats *snorts* Side note: I’m sure Sandra and I would be total BFFs (just think of all the Betsy and Nigel talk we could have!).

Here’s the thing though, all that glitters ain’t gold. (Did you sing that last part? Coz I totally did.) Can Soph’s RPatz lookalike-y really be everything she wants and more? (Full disclosure: I’ve never got the RPatz thing *cringes*.)

As I am want to do, I had a few conversations with Sophia along the way in the story. I don’t know why I bother, really. No one ever listens, lol!

Perfect Match isn’t just a story about hoping to find The One. It’s a story about finding yourself as well. Before we can give our heart to someone else, we need to love ourselves first, foibles and all. As the ad says, love your imperfections.

Sheesh, that’s getting a bit deep – eh?

Trust me, Perfect Match is the perfect read to beat the January blues!

In the world of online dating books let me just say I had better. Waaaaay better.
And as this book has lough out loud in the tittle well all I can say is why?! Because I didn't lough at all..out loud or any other way.

As debut book of Zoe May, this book is quite alright. It has its moments. But I had to say I expected more.

Quick. Light. Read.

Sophie has tried most of the on-line dating apps. Her latest date is boring her with random facts about food. Sophie and her flatmate Kate make a list of who Sophie’s perfect date would be. So when Mr.Perfect actually turns up Sophie is bowled over.

This is such a fun read and had me sniggering when Sophie and Kate made their Mr Perfect list. When Daniel walks in and is everything Sophie wants she is waiting for the catch. When she realises he is what he appears to be she starts to relax.

Daniels world is so far removed from Sophie’s and there are so many differences in their lifestyles. There are a few characters that make this story move along at a nice pace.

The story is not just about Sophie’s relationship with Daniel. It also has Sophie’s close friends and also her work colleagues. With using the characters, the author has done a great job of showing what sort of person Sophie is and also her values as a person. Sophie is so desperate not to be the last shoe in the shop as people around her seem to be married or in relationships.

This is ideal for readers who like a romance with some humour, a good story line and plenty of fun moments. One I would recommend.

As someone who spent a lot of time looking for Mr Right in London, who kissed a lot of frogs and went on a lot of awful dates I was really looking forward to this book and it didn't disappoint. A hilarious yet poignant look at finding love and the dawning realisation that you have to find yourself first. A wonderful debut!

As I was reading this, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect since the blurb is a little vague. It turned out to be a quick, fun read. Note: If you’re reading the kindle version (at least in the U.S.), there’s an Epilogue AFTER what looks like the end of the book. After what appears to be the last line of the book, there is a “If you enjoyed this book then consider trying X book”. Usually something like that comes at the END of the book. Luckily I turned the virtual page because there was an Epilogue after it. Make sure not to miss it.

3.75 STARS 🌟

This book is a coming of age story of Sophia who is in her late 20's and is trying to tackle many a problems the foremost being finding the perfect date (aka boyfriend, aka THE ONE). It was out rightly hilarious and a very fast read , another book that I just finished in a day and kept on thinking of its intricacies and plot twists.

We all want to find a boyfriend the old fashioned way sitting in a bar and hitting off with a stranger or meeting someone while taking a stroll , basically a chance encounter. But in practicality that's tough and dating sites are the solution. The solution which a cute Londoner Sophia uses.

So Sophia gets tired of dating one night with another good date gone wrong. Its like the guy in the profile is perfect but when she ends up meeting him all he talks about is food and food facts. Due to this Sophia decides to stop dating which leads to getting drunk with her best friend and creation of a dating profile which in its actuality was just a big joke. Its a profile in which she bashfully ends up mentioning that she wants a rich guy who looks like Robert Pattinson. Though surprisingly she gets a message from a perfect guy(the perfect one she wanted from her profile).

And this is the point from where the story takes off. Making Sophia question are looks , money and gifts the answer to finding LOVE or maybe something else matters too. Its about meeting the wrong guy(who you want to be the right guy). Its about how the wrong people in our life actually end up helping us in understanding what do we really want in life.

Its a hilarious book with a huge plot twist , which I had a feeling in my gut was bound to happen . Because no relationship is supposed to be perfect right ? Because if everything is perfect there has to be a flaw right.

Through the book we get to meet Sophia's friends , her relationship with people in general and how they all help her in shaping who she is. And how the first impression is not what matters and cannot be the only deciding factor on how a person really is. How these dating sites and the newfound culture just give us a fixed number of meeting to decide how the person is which can as you all know be faulty.

I guess the story was unexpected and something different . Not following into the steps of what a romantic comedy is supposed to be but creating an altogether different niche for itself.
I believe it was its unexpectedness which caught me off guard . Which I guess was a tad bit refreshing also.

I had never heard of Zoe May but the blurb of this book was too cute and too intriguing for me to not pick it up. And I'm very glad that I did because this was such a fun and engaging story to read. This is the perfect book if you want something light and entertaining.

Light entertainment at a time when it was just what I needed. I respected what I saw was the underlying message in life for me. Well written for this style of book.

Thank you, Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this ARC novel in exchange for my honest-to-goodness review.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't particularly enjoy this story. I had high hopes with the blurb. It just seemed cute and original and ... well, cute. But I cringed. I eye rolled. I shook my head and persevered.

The premise of the novel is that Sophia is a serial dater. She meets her beaus in all imaginable online dating group sites. Each and every one is a bust. Sophia finds something to nit-pick on for each man she meets. With her latest online match with Chris becoming another X-mark on her list of dud dates, her best friend convinces her that she should try one last dating site. With this, they both have a good time coming up with the parameters of what exactly Sophia is looking for. She basically just says "eff it all" and makes up a dreamy, unrealistic man. Billionaire. Entrepreneur. Travels frequently. Must love his adopted cat. And must look like Edward Cullen. Oh, I mean, must look like Robert Pattinson.

Really? I am glad I read it. The blurb was absolutely successful in reaching and intriguing me. So, great job there! The rest just fell completely face-first flat for me. And that's just me. My opinion. Take it with a grain of salt. You may love the story and are probably shaking your middle finger at me now. I apologize. I really do.

I am going to say right from the start that I am so glad that when I was single that there was no such thing as Internet dating sites and that the way you met people was by actually going out and meeting them… you know socialising and all that. Maybe it’s just me and I am just old(ish), but I hate filling in questionnaires at the best of time and to be honest..who really fills them in truthfully? That being said I really enjoyed this book and found myself actually snorting with laughter at times.
Sophia is looking for Mr Right. And after disastrous date number 71 she agrees to let her flatmate sign her up to a new internet dating site. This time though she decides to put up a very tongue in cheek profile of what she is looking for…. You know self-made millionaire, must love animals, do charity work, look like Robert Pattinson… oh yeah and must have an 8inch penis. As you can imagine the really weird and wonderful of society answer and some of the responses she receives are either funny or downright creepy. When Daniel replies and seems to match all of her outlandish criteria he seems too good to be true. With her dead end job and small flat, what Daniel offers is everything that Sophia thought she wanted…but is it really?
I guess Sophia is like most people. We all have dreams at one time or another of having someone sweep us off our feet and change our lives, that perfect person. In her quest for finding “the one”, she does sometimes come across as a bit superficial but in the modern age where everyone and everything moves so fast the art of getting to know people somehow seems to have got lost. That being said she is very loyal to her friends, especially her elderly neighbour Lyn who has a taste for Jellied Eels and Come Dine with me. As her outlook on life and relationships change, so does her attitude to the various men in her life, from dishy Daniel to geeky Chris and she realises that maybe Mr Right doesn’t have to be Mr Perfect or Mr Prince Charming.
Although you know that Sophia is going to realise her error of judgement in the men she chooses you still can’t help but like this book. The characters are entertaining and Sophia’s friends and work colleagues are a hoot. The descriptions of the pregnant hamster sent my imagination into overdrive and I had visions of a furry version of Violet Beauregarde out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
This is the debut novel by Zoe May and if this is the promise of things to come then I look forward to what comes next.
