Life as an ethical vampire isn’t easy for Amber Fang. First, she has to track down and eat a murderer every month. Second, her mother is imprisoned in a bunker controlled by ZARC, a multinational arms dealing company. Third, her fellow vampires are hot on her trail, bent on ridding the world of conscientious bloodsuckers.
And then there’s Dermot.
He’s the last living member of the League, and Amber’s boss. She can’t decide if she should kiss him or kill him, but he’s promised to find her mother. Their first lead takes them to the sunny beaches of Belize.
Then ZARC strikes a blow that leaves Amber stunned and heartbroken.

I think as far as endings go it was a nice one, but everything leading up to it was weird and felt disconcerting and unorganized. If I had one word to describe the series it would be unorganized.
Slide into a...comfortable vampire cozy thriller, with a vampire protagonist-heroine who reads (and delivers easier deaths to bad guys who read). Who can resist Ninja Librarians, dedicated to preserving Human knowledge and culture {shades of The Universal Library}? If you like your vampires not sparkly but snarky, your thrillers highly adventurous but leavened with quirky humor, and your characters likable, check out this third entry in the Amber Fang Series. (Caution: includes breathtaking moments!)
Interesting story of Vampires/good & bad - mother is missing & locked up - the hunt is on to find & free her - twist & turns along the way - YA fiction
Before we get to Amber Fang, let's discuss Arthur Slade for a moment. I first started reading his books back in 2002 when I was a bookseller and a mature student in university. I read two of his books that year, one as personal selection for a Children's lit course. I have been a big fan ever since reading that first book Dust, and have read all of the books he has published both as Arthur Slade and as Stephen Shea. But I am always hesitant to read the last book in a series, in part because some have gone downhill, and also because some stories you just do not want to end. But Arthur has hinted enough that thill will likely be other Amber Fang stories in some format, so that fear is alleviated. This story was so entertaining that the first fear was also extinguished.
In my review of book 1 I stated that this series "reads like a cross between the TV series Dexter with Angel except the lead is a woman, and an aspiring librarian at that. Or a mash up of Tom Clancy, Anne Rice but with more than a little humour smattered in." And after book two I would say even more so. Though maybe a dash of Spider Robinson thrown in this time just to mix it up. But first some back story. Amber is a vampire with ethics. Her mother raised her to only take victims that are responsible for terrible crimes and who feel no remorse for it. After her mother disappeared she continued to work on her Masters of library science, research her meals, and search for her mother. Then things changed when she was recruited by a government organization. She became an assassin on contract. That organization has nearly been wiped out. She has discovered a secret organization of librarians around the world who know about the vampires, about Amber and her mother. They try not to interfere but have run a catch and release program.
These books span the globe, and Amber has certainly travelled a lot since learning her studies in Montreal. In the beginning of this book Amber is in Belize, then she journeys to Sweden, climbs a mountain, storms a hidden fortress, battles an intelligent computer. And makes a promise we might all regret. Because of her code of ethics she must keep her promise even if it is to an AI.
Will amber rescue her mother? Does Dermot survive? Will the librarian guild break their rules and help her? There are a lot of questions before we begin this third book and a few new ones that arise.
What is there not to like about Amber, she is a librarian, she is beautiful, and she has a code of ethics. She keeps her promises, and she is devoted to those she cares about. She just happens to be an ex-assassin, and a vampire.
This book was a great wrap up to the first Amber Fang series. From the hints by the author will be producing more works with Amber as a character. As readers we can only hope so. In my reading list I have read books by Arthur Slade a total of 34 times. And the humour and action in this series is very different from anything else he has written. So pick up this book or the whole series the trilogy is worth sinking your teeth into!

Boy did Arthur Slade catch me out with this one! After the unbelievable escapades in book 2 and the cliffhanger ending, I expected this to open up all guns blazing. That isn't exactly how it panned out in this book. The book isn't boring by any stretch of the imagination but for me, the pace seemed slower and less involved for the first half of the book. Amber travels around several picturesque destinations in search of her mother in a bid to try and save her and also keep her own fertility sacred - and things once again spiral downhill from there... One thing is for sure, she has learned to fight. She has also learned to dish out weapons grade banter and can be hilariously sarcastic, this is just one of her many fun attributes that set her apart from many vampires out there. The enemies come thick and fast and there are again some truly incredible pop culture references from film, music and literature that will have quizzers going mental trying to place the quote. The gore levels are suitably high but this time with the romance turned up a notch too and you are kept constantly off guard by ridiculously slapstick moments in places that you least expect to occur. The description of the varied locations places you in the mountains with her one moment and engulfed in flames in another and you share every moment. The superbly built story comes to a blistering finish leaving you exhausted from the incredible amount of detail and energy that went into the finale, leaving you in no doubt that 1 - You ARE a Fanger and 2 - You want a book 4!!!
A really enjoyable series that you can laugh along with, get mildly grossed out by and play 'pop quiz' all at the same time.
On the one hand, I think the main character is really immature and annoying to read about.
But on the other hand, the plot still has....SOMETHING about it...that keeps me reading to find out what happens next.
But seriously, this main character.....really gets on my nerves! Sure, she's a vampire, so she's got superhuman strength, speed, and agility. But also....she's really, really....arrogant with her abilities...and that gets her into all sorts of trouble!
Trouble that could have been avoided!
Oh, I've pinpointed something that keeps me interested. A vampire librarian. This is new! This is interesting. At least for me. I liked.
Ninja librarians?! Yes, please.
Looking back to the first book....I never would have expected it to go where it went. So, yay unpredictableness!
The ending was a bit...grr for me.
So, yes, the major problems have all been mostly dealt with. But there was this all these new paths set up, and I really would have liked to see where it went!
Not exactly a cliffhanger, but....I wouldn't call it a nicely wrapped up ending, either.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Amber Fang series. Amber is still searching for her mother with the help of Dermot. The League has been decimated and ZARC appears to have the upper hand. What's a vamp to do with both the Grand Council of Vampires and ZARC after her? Amber does what she has always done - rush right in without thinking things through too carefully. A witty heroine, Amber reminds me of Stephanie Plum in the Evanovich novels. You just laugh out loud as you read. These are the first books I have read by Slade, but I'm going to have to find some more!
The third instalment in the Amber Fang series is just as much fun as the first two! I love Arthur Slade's take on vampires, and all of the literary references. The book is action packed from start to finish, and it's a quick read. My only complaint is that there are a lot of moments where I had to suspend my disbelief a little bit to far for my comfort, but maybe that's to be expected in a book about vampires!
I am a Fanger!! I absolutely LOVE this series and book 3 did not dissapoint. Amber is kick butt and sassy. In this book she lets her guard down (just a tiny bit) and lets love in - it is a beautful thing! As with the other books in this series the action is non stop. The characters are in depth and world building is top notch. The spurts of humor are perfectly placed. I hope there is more in the series. I would love to see spin offs for - The Returns & maybe Hector
Wow! What a thrilling read! Taking you around Europe in a movie-like adventure, this book is a fantastic third and final instalment in the Amber Fang series. I definitely recommend it to all Fangers - you won't be disappointed! I'm off to catch my breath now... (Ps can someone please invent a real-life Athena? I NEED one!!) NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
What can I say.... This story was action packed from start to end. Amber has sooo much going on in her quest to find/deal with family things. I enjoyed the fun tongue in cheek banter between many of the characters as well as the multiple pop culture reference integrating classic movies/movie lines. The sort of warm and fuzzy ending made me smile... finally! As well, I loved "the details" chapter at the end :) .I'll have to watch for other works by this author.
This is a great fast-paced installment and I hope there are spin-offs coming. Our heroine is still sassy and kick-ass but now open to love. The storyline is well-written with action, adventure, European locations, and romance. I enjoyed this entertaining story. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Great story. I had to be a bit patient to get this far. But I know Slade is busy fellow. Nice tongue in cheek thriller. Not sure I should admit to having lived through so many of historical references in three story or not
, but fun reliving them. I hoping to see much more of Ms Fang as I have become a fanger.
Although Amber is 23 years old, that is still very young in vampire years. I guess that explains her acting like a child a lot of the time. To be honest, I was surprised that she didn't die, given how inexperienced she is compared to her sister, father and the other vampires they had with them. Luckily for Amber, her knight in shining armour (literally) was there for her.
Amber strikes again! ;-) Continuing on from book 2 (and its cliff hanger ending) Amber is still searching for her mother. Can she find her? Read the book and find out.
Adorable, easy to read story about Amber the ethical vampire. For this life isn’t easy, but a bit of romance enters her world. It’s a not to be missed story for anyone.
The concepts of the series isn't an original concept but this series takes it and makes something new. I really enjoyed reading the two books and hope thereafter this world.
