Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

WHEN LANDS THE SAUCER
October 1968

"They are plagued by Poverty and Want...The Cancer of Crime...and the Brutal Scourge of Tyranny!"

A defining issue/story as The Surfer tries to help Earth survive an alien (Badoon) invasion...only to be misunderstood and attacked by Earth's military.

My Marvelous Year Seven: 1968 pt2

Read to see The Silver Surfer make great sacrifices for an unappreciative human race, and the Watcher narrate an old strange tales style story with new art from Gene Colan.

Loving the Surfer as a character, although his solo comic runs a little too long (almost double a regular comic issue, and while the first ish warranted that, this had several filler pages dedicated solely to the Surfer feeling bad for himself). Solid writing that’s brisker than a lot of comics at the time, and great art. The B-story—told by the Watcher—wasn’t anything more than a dollar store Twilight Zone/Scooby-Doo plot, but the art was good.

6/10 - Nobody Understands Me

The idea of Silver Surfer being a misunderstood that struggles to adapt and comprehend humans and that those dread him, fits for that character. The problem is that it feels sometimes forced and it's depicted too dramatic and theatrical for me.

Besides, there are already enough whining and misfit characters, so i expect that they don't stretch on long this predicament and they are able to develop the character in fresh new ideas and scenarios.

Contrary to what could be expected after having the sixtieth alien race trying to conquer earth in the marvel universe, his presence is not annoying and boring being, but enjoyable.

Finally, as usual Buscema delivers solid and excellent artwork, managing to give us what i think is the best depiction of Silver Surfer so far.

Another great issue of the Silver Surfer. These are double length but they go down easy. Here the illogical hatred from humanity reaches its peak setting up a potential revenge narrative in the next issue.

The surfer fails to escape Earth. I’m wondering if he had maintained his grip on the alien ship would he have been able to escape?
And would he have been able to go back and forth between earth afterwards or would he just leave it permanently because he’d be trapped within upon return

Cosmic!

Why alone must the Silver Surfer kick all kinds of alien butt? Not sure, but he does! Excelsior, True Believers!
