Abandoned by her mother at the age of seven, Jerusha Carey is no stranger to being left behind.
Eleven years later she is married to Dan Applebee, an older, reliable farmer from Kent. Jerusha believes she has finally found the security she has always craved. But then disaster strikes.
Kent, 1904.
Two years after the sudden death of her husband, Jerusha is alone once again. But the arrival of the enigmatic Joe Finch, a traveller seeking work on the farm and a home for his daughter, sets Jerusha's life on a new path, giving her hope for her future.
Has Jerusha found her happy ending at last, or will she be forever destined to lose the ones she loves?
My, what a refreshing novel. Writing by experiencing that time of era and once you read about the author, you can begin to see how much of her real life history has been imbedded throughout. They say the best stories are from those who have been there and saw so much of what has been written. I’m going to read everyone of her novels now because the author has so much more to share.
Jerusha is brought up in a large house in London, but at the age of 7 her mother leaves Jerusha and places her in a boarding school, with the intent if she doesn't come back collect her daughter her cousin Valentine or her friend Oliver will take responsibility for Jerusha and her life.
The boarding school has to close and Jerusha can't live with her cousin or with Oliver because of there circumstance so she is put adopted into a husband and wifes care in London, (they don't really want her but they are paid well to look after her).
And so Jerusha life continues being moved from their care after 2 years when something happens.
Jerusha meets Dan the farmer who is much older and they fall in love and Jerusha marries Dan and live on their farm, but Dan suddenly dies which means Jerusha is alone again, until Joe arrives is this the happy ending Jerusha always dreamed of or is there more heartache to follow??

I'm afraid I abandoned this. I hadn't got beyond the prologue when I decided it wasn't for me. If the first few pages don't grab me, then I move on. Not sure where Sheila 'Everett' came from, the book says its by Sheila Newberry!
I enjoyed reading this book but afterwards wondered why because I didnt find many of the characters likeable at all and some aspects of the story were a bit unrealistic.
This book was given to me by a neighbour I have to say I really enjoyed it the plot was good the characters excellent. Can’t wait to read another book by this author
Was a nice Family Saga story..... didn't want to put it down,,, but of course as always life gets in the way.... was a pleasant cosy read.... and will look for others but this author.
The Girl With No Home is set in two locations; London 1888 and Kent 1904, and is basically the life story of young, and not so young, Jerusha Carey after she is abandoned by her mother at the age of 7.
After spending time in several foster settings, at age eighteen she meets and marries Dan Applebee who is much older and a reliable farmer from Kent. Together they commence the quiet secure life she always desired, with the exception of children. Then tragedy strikes, leaving Jerusha alone with a farm to manage.
Two years after Dan’s death, Joe Finch arrives on the scene seeking some farm work and a home for his ten-year-old daughter. It appears that Joe is what Jerusha needs, both as a farmworker and partner. However, Joe has always been a wanderer and wasn't home for his daughter's birth and true to form he repeats the cycle when Jerusha falls pregnant. Joe leaves for Canada, and work, leaving Jerusha and his daughter all alone to fend for themselves. Life is made much harder for Jerusha after she delivers a handicapped baby courtesy of a case of rubella during her pregnancy.
Although a bit slow and difficult to follow in places, I rated The Girl With No Home as a three-star read, at best. ***** At the time of writing my review, other Goodreads readers had awarded The Girl With No Home an average of 4.16 stars, from 494 ratings and 18 reviews

I have just finished reading The girl with No Home by Sheila Newberry. I was kindly given a copy of the book by the publisher for an honest review.
This book is about Jerusha, who at the age of 7 is abandoned by her mother and put into a boarding school, it is set in the early 1900. Although she is abandoned by her mother she has a guardian Oliver who oversees her care. The story tells of Jerusha life and although she has a hard time, there are people in her life who look out and care for her along the way.
This book is very well written and it did keep me interested right to the end so I would happily give this book 4 stars but at times I did find it lacking something. If you enjoy family dramas I would recommend this book. I would like a squeal to the story as I would like to find out what else happens in Jerusha's life and the rest of her family.
Set in the 1900's we follow a young girl named Jerusha who has been abandoned by her Mother. As her life takes it's course we get to see how time again unfortunately she seems to keep loosing the people she holds dear when she is just starting to be content. But finally it must be her turn for some good luck surely? and is traveller Joe the one to break her run of bad luck?. I enjoyed this comforting tale. The characterisation was good and the scene was set well. Although the ending was predictable it brought the story to a satisfactory ending. A book I would recommend. My thanks go to the author, publisher and Netgalley in providing this arc in return for a honest review.
The Girl With No Home was a delight to read the story starts with a girl called Jerusha at home with her Mother Katheleen. The story goes on to describe different times during her life from when she was deserted by her mother through various other life stages. Although it jumped a little at the beginning of each chapter it didn’t stop me wanting to read what happened next to Jerusha.
