Third and final installment.
Shifter novel set in the same world as, the bestselling, Chosen and Program series

Long ago Gage failed at love. He recently failed the human female he'd been assigned to protect. Now, the Alphas have clearly lost their ever-loving minds because they’ve given him the same duty a second time. Well, he isn’t going to take the mission. He’ll bring the human to the village, as instructed, and then she’ll become someone else’s problem. Not his! No way! That is, until he catches sight of her, until he catches a snoutful of her tantalizing scent. Then he’s done for. It’s game over.

Unfortunately, there are forces at work that intend to keep them apart. An unknown enemy. A foe that is not only stronger but quicker as well, so much more deadly. An enemy that means them harm. It wants the human. Gage will have to risk everything to protect her. He may even have to put his own life on the line.

No cheating and a guaranteed HEA.

This book was weird.

I just don't know what was wrong with it but it felt really odd.

Its very primal in the wording and the way they have sex. "Muddy cock" would be a direct quote and that just freaked me out!!

I liked Edith she was probably the best out of all the female leads, she wasn't as naive in my opinion. She was a bit more switched on.
Gage was nice and I'm glad he got his HEA, but I preferred Ash. Or rather I think it gets a bit old making them so weird with the girls and the English language not knowing what certain things are. Also how did they miss these creatures before hand?!

So this is the third installment of Shifter Night, and I have to say I was not as impressed with this one. Not to say I didn't like this story I didn't enjoy it as much as all the others.

Gage is in charge of taking Edith home. He has to keep her safe from the still unknown thing hunting their village. But when things go wrong, Gage and Edith end up having to work to get home safely.

Unchained is a good ending for this part of the series.

MY NEW FAVORITE!!!
Title: Unchained
Series: Shifter Night
Author: Charlene Hartnady
Designation: Book 3 of 3 of Completed Series, Full-Length Novel(Approximately 220 pages), *Standalone, No Cliffhanger, HEA
#paranormal #shapeshifter #romance #bearshifterhero #humanheroine
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars
*All three books in the Shifter Night Series feature a different couple finding love, but there is a single underlying interconnected conflict running throughout all three stories. Each book could probably be enjoyed as a standalone but to avoid spoilers, I highly recommend reading the books in order of their release.

OMG, I love, love, love Unchained! Hands down, Unchained is one of the best novels of Hartnady's entire career. I laughed, I sobbed, I shook my fists in anger, and then I cried some more! It was bloody brilliant! I've been a Charlene Hartnady fan for years and followed her career as she became one of the most reliable and prolific authors in the paranormal romance genre today, consistently releasing original, unique, imaginative, well-crafted and edited stories, time after time. Hartnady is one of very few authors on my automatic one-click list. When she releases a new book or offers a preorder, I snap it right up, without even bothering to read the blurb or look at the price, and I've never regretted a single purchase. I subscribe to Amazon Kindle Unlimited but love her work so much, I buy her books rather than borrow, simply because I want them in my permanent library to read again and again. That's quite a recommendation in itself. And her latest release, Unchained, is no exception! I was thrilled when I discovered Hartnady was releasing a spinoff based in the same world as her bestselling The Chosen Series, but the inspiration for Shifter Night is shifters rather than vampires. But in Sweetwater, you never know what you might find, and it looks like Hartnady is spicing things up even more with another new spinoff series entitled The Feral! The premise is for The Feral is introduced in this story, so you don't want to miss Unchained! Oh my! All the paranormals in Hartnady's Sweetwater Texas world, which (so far) includes vampires, elves, bears, wolves, cats, dragons (and it looks like it's about to get a whole bigger), are in need of females - fertile females. And now that the Vampire Kings have successfully launched their 'Date A Vampire' campaign, which is nothing more than a politically correct way of describing their 'Breeding Program' brainchild, human females have become fair game and they all want to mate a vampire. This is the premise for Hartnady's The Chosen Series, another fabulous collection if you enjoy hunky, possessive vampires, but the books in the Shifter Night Series have storylines featuring the shifters of Hartnady's Sweetwater World who come into town once a month on Saturday night to blow off steam at the Dark Horse, a pickup bar where shifters mix with human women aspiring to 'party hardy' and, hopefully, do the dirty with the handsome, strapping shifter 'party-animals'. (I just couldn't resist that little pun!) Roar! And these guys really know how to make a woman scream, and not in fright! Shifter Night has been mentioned in several of Hartnady's previous stories and I'd so hoped she would make it into a series... and she did! But some of these guys want more than just a good time, they want to find love. Unfortunately, there are so many shifters looking for mates that the Alphas have had to start their own program. It's not really an organized campaign per se but they call it 'The List'. Any of the shifters wanting to date a human female have to put their name in the hat and wait their turn. The shifters can't afford to draw attention to themselves by stealing all the available women, right? It just wouldn't be fair to all the human males of Sweetwater since all the women want to date shifters! But Shifter Night at the Dark Horse has become so popular, it's now big business for the town. Enterprising entrepreneurs have decided to cash in on the phenomenon and organized Shifter Night tours, bussing in women from all over for the weekend, and business is booming! Sign me up! lol... I tend to get a little carried away when talking about Hartnady's work, but the entire concept is imaginative, fabulously entertaining and a whole lot of fun, so allow me to tell you just a few of the reasons why I love it so much!

Unchained is an exciting, well-crafted, fast-paced, easy to follow, full-length, standalone, paranormal tale filled with great characters, riveting drama, heart-wrenching angst, heated attraction, steamy passion, heartwarming romance, and even a bit of underlying mystery and suspense. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with dual his and her perspectives. The dialogue is snappy, well executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. But without a doubt, my favorite component of every Hartnady story is the cast of diverse, engaging, and always endearing characters. Unlike Hartnady's other heroes, I was NOT instantly smitten with handsome, stubborn, often arrogant, and always grumpy bear-shifter Gage. He's been mentioned in several books but in Book 2, Unbound, we discover he's Ash's twin brother and also why he's such a grumpy, contrary bear. I was NOT impressed. In fact, I thought he was a real stick in the mud, but I kinda figured Book 3 would be about him, and I was right! But if I've learned one thing about Hartnady's characters, it's to never judge a book by its cover, so I decided to reserve my judgment of Gage and see how his story would play out. And I'll be honest, there were quite a few times I wanted to punch him in the snout or, at the very least, thump his ears a few times, just to knock some sense into him. And Edith, the female protagonist, was just adorable! She was introduced in Book One, Untethered, as the real estate agent and best friend of Winston's mate Ana. After one hookup with a wolf shifter on shifter night at Dark Horse, Edith swears off men, especially shifters. She's had her heart broken one too many times. But the attraction between Gage and Edith was difficult to ignore, each firmly refusing to acknowledge their feelings for each other. I wanted to pinch them both! But oh my, when Gage and Edith do succumb to their inner desires, the sexual chemistry was off the charts hot! They were absolutely perfect together and with a little help from an insightful four-year-old, they're able to overcome their doubts and stop fighting the inevitable, finally realizing what they each need is right in front of them. Gage and Edith's journey was frightening, frustrating, and at times completely heartbreaking, but it was also engaging and occasionally laugh out loud funny. I snickered, snorted, giggled, snuffled, sobbed, and fumed through the entire book but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, and entertained. I truly love the emotional rollercoaster I always experience while reading Hartnady's stories, but the component I enjoy most is her characters, which brings me to another element I adore about her work. Hartnady's stories may be fiction, but the stories and characters in her books always deal with underlying real-life issues, making the story so much more emotional and realistic. But never fear, after shaking your fists in anger and shedding quite a few tears, Hartnady always leaves you happy, satisfied and well entertained.

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain naughty language and explicit(code word for dreamy) sex. This book could probably be read as a standalone however to avoid spoilers and enrich your reading experience, I highly recommend reading the books in order of their release. And FYI, in Book 3 we finally discover the identity of the mysterious creatures abducting women throughout the series, as well as their motivation, and you'll be shocked! If you're into insta-love paranormal romance with no real-life conflict, this may not be the book for you. But if you enjoy a real tug of war between two very stubborn characters who both need an attitude adjustment, then this is one story you won't be able to put down. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

It's been five days since Gage was attacked by the mysterious entity that's been causing so much trouble, and another female has been taken. And this time, it was on his watch. He'd been assigned to return the healer to Sweetwater, but they never made it, and he never even saw what took her. Not a single person has ever gotten a look at the thing, and no one has any idea what it could be. Now, his twin brother Ash's mate and cubs have also been abducted, stolen from the property just outside their home. He felt it was his duty to help find them, but instead he's been ordered to return another human female to Sweetwater. The beautiful curvy little human named Edith had been visiting Winston's mate, Ana, and she has some fantastically insane theory of what the creature might be. But she has to be deranged, right? Well, crazy or not, he'll still guard her with his life, and there will be no hanky-panky, although the curvy female was proving to be quite a distraction to him and his bear. This time, he would not fail, no matter the cost. Unfortunately, it seems the creature abducting their women and children has other ideas. and Edith is also kidnapped, but this time he's is determined not to fail. Gage quickly discovers he may have misjudged the sweet little human and she may not be so crazy after all. They both find themselves in a fight for their freedom, possibly their lives, and realize they must work together to escape. But there's more than just survival brewing between this stubborn pair. Gage and Edith discover love can also be a powerful foe, and the heart can be the biggest battlefield of all. Will Gage allow his fear of commitment to ruin his chance at happiness? We'll see!

Unchained is the third sexy book in the Shifter Night series. The story revolves around shifters who meet the one and their lives are changed forever. But there are dramas along the way. That's when the fun begins.

While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters are fun and loving and dictated by their rules, but what they discover more than they ever imagined.

Strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles! Who doesn't love that

Edith and Gage

An enjoyable story about a shifter bear and human woman.
Feral beasts are attacking the settlements and kidnapping human women and some of their children. A visiting woman is ordered to leave immediately and six shifters are assigned to see her safely home. On the journey, a flying feral swoops down and lifts Edith off Gage's back while he is in his bear form, and he jumps up digging his great paws into the feral's stomach.
Starting to lose his grip when the feral flys away and afraid of falling to his death, Gage changes back to his human form and, holding on to the leg of the feral, completes the journey to its lair.
Both Edith and Gage wake up in separate towers several stories high with nothing but a bed and bathroom as facilities and no way to escape.
After meeting the head of the ferals, Edith discovers the reason they had been kidnapped; she and the other females were taken to breed with them and restore their numbers since all but one of their females had died while attempting to make their clutch of eggs.
Edith argued intensely with the feral telling him she would never breed with him or any of the other ferals.
Meanwhile, Gage used his bear claws to cut the fur covering from the bed into strips to fashion a rope in an effort to escape. That night he used the rope to help Edith escape and they began their long journey back to the settlement, traveling by night and sleeping by day in an effort to escape recapture.
The story is full of pitfalls and struggles. It's fast paced and interesting. Hope you enjoy it.

I loved it!

Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book three of three in The Shifter Knight series.
(Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

Saturday night is shifter night. It’s that one night of the week when the shifters head into Sweetwater to blow off a little steam. Sometimes, when they’re lucky enough, it’s to find a mate, a sweet, human mate, since shifter females are in such short supply.

Long ago Gage failed at love, and he recently failed the human female he'd been assigned to protect. Now, the Alphas have clearly lost their ever-loving minds because they’ve given him the same duty a second time. Well, he isn’t going to take the mission. He’ll take the human home, as instructed, and then she’ll become someone else’s problem. That is, until he catches sight of her, until he catches a snoutful of her tantalizing scent. Then he’s done for. It’s game over.

Unfortunately, there are forces at work that intend to keep them apart. An unknown enemy, a foe that is not only stronger but quicker as well, and so much more deadly. An enemy that means them harm, and it wants the human. Gage will have to risk everything to protect her, and he may even have to put his own life on the line. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Gage and Edith

Edith is at the shifter village visiting her friend Ana (from book 1). She had a one night stand with Jacob a wolf shifter at the Dark Horse. But then he went home with different females the next two times she went back to the pick-up bar. They talked and joked around but he left with someone else. So she decided that she wouldn't be with a shifter ever again.
When the unknown animals attack the village and kidnap some of the women and children, it is decided that Edith return home. Gage is in charge of returning her along with six others including Jacob.
While enroute back to Sweetwater, Edith is taken right off of Gage's back. He reaches up and latches onto the animals leg. They are both placed in a separate tower that has no openings except for a balcony in which a Keythong(Griffen like animal) lands.
Gage escapes and rescues Edith, but not the others. They head back towards the village which it at least a week away. They start getting closer to each other as they rely on each other.
This book is not about the insta-love that we are used to. This relationship is hard fought. Because Gage's past with Savannah and Ash interferes with how he perceives things. We also find out about who the Keythong are and why they are kidnapping people.
I liked this book but it seemed a little bit slower paced than the others in this series. I still recommend this book though. I believe that I have read all of Ms Hartnady's books and enjoyed every one.

The last book in the series I'm sad about it though. It's pretty good series but I will not lie I'm looking forward towards The Feral. But nevermind that lets talk about the book. I liked this one a lot of action happening here wasn't easy to put it down. From the very first page to the last I looked forward towards what was coming next.

Character Breakdown;

Gage; I knew from the last book that Gage was going to be a interesting soul. I wasn't expecting a tormented one. The amount of guilt he felt was sad and his lack of understanding kinda pissed me off. I loved his persistence and his strength and his sense of humor.

Edith; I don't know what I was expecting of her but she not only surprised me she impressed me. She was funny and bold and despite her fear she faced them head on. And her silly awkward babbling was delightful.

This book has a dose of danger, laughter, steamy scenes and a lot of emotion. It also set the pace for the next series that like I said before I cannot wait to read about. I will admit I thought they were the bad guys but now I want to see them in the awkward probably hilarious and hot stories to come.

This is the last in the three book Night Shifter series but it brought them all together nicely with the feisty Emily & the bear shifter Gage.
Following the previous unexplained kidnappings Emily has a theory that nobody believes could possibly be true. Gage is tasked with taking her back to Sweetwater to ensure her safety but of course nothing is as simple as that.
This is a strong story of these two but also gives us a tantalising dip into The Feral which looks as if it will be the next series (can’t wait). It is not my favourite of the series but I loved them both anyway & it did bring to a close all of the threads from the previous books.
You do not have to read the others to enjoy this one but I’m sure you will want to go back & read them as it’s a great series.
I was lucky enough to be given an ARC in exchange for an honest review for which I give my thanks as it was an easy & hot read as always with Charlene.

Great ending to the series

Unchained Shifter Night: Book 3
By Charlene Hartnady
Kindle unlimited purchase
Gage has it bad. He gave up the woman he loved so she could be happy. But he wished it was with someone other than his twin. When she died along with one of the twins he couldn't be there for his bother, he blamed him for her death. Now his brother's new mate and their twin boys were taken by something that no one has ever seen.
Edith is visiting her friend at the worst time. Something is taking the human mates and some of the children. So far her safety Gage is taking her back. But the best intentions and all that. Both Gage and Edith are taken by something neither has ever seen. It's Gage's job to protect her but will he end up dying to do it?
I'm sad to see this series come to an end but what a story to start off the next series. It's the Farel's turn at a HEA with the next series "The Feral" already rented the series.

Unchained
By Charlene Hartnady
Third and last book in the Shifter night series

This entire series or book world is one of my favorites. I have re read several books in the series and would recommend it. I guess they can be read alone, as each book is centered around a couple but it is much better to read from the beginning with the vampires series! I give it 4.5 because it’s not my favorite of the series but still good. This book is about Edith who is visiting her friend in the shifter village, when people start disappearing. Wanting to get Edith to safety, Gage a bear shifter agrees to take her back to human civilization. Along the way Edith is kidnapped and wondering who these beings are? what do they want? Read it!

For 1 night only

One night only a month, shifter men get to gather at a pick up bar to be man-handled by the human women of Sweetwater. Do be fooled, no one is losing in the deal, unless their heart gets involved.

Hartnady wrote 3 super cute books about 3 different men who find love in the most unexpected ways. I was laughing, crying, anxious and relieved during the books.

I recommend reading this series. The Feral are the next series, but I read them first. It was still exciting.

This unbelievable story reached far beyond the Shifter's community and drew its readers into an amazing and mysterious new world of "The Feral". I loved the journey and the introduction of these secretive and incredibly powerful creatures. Gage and Edith's attraction may have been slow to ignite, but it certainly changed rapidly when their lives were placed in serious jeopardy by this unknown enemy. This was a amazing and incredibly interesting story and I enjoyed it immensely. Great Story! I want to read more about these characters!!!!!

A fantastic ending to this series!

Unchained is the final book in the Shifter Night series, and it's a definite must read. Full of suspense, mystery, humor, angst, and sexy intimate scenes, it's a story that you won't want to miss. The only thing that I would've liked more about it was if it had been a bit longer. I really would've liked to have read about some of the other shifters in the Village as well. Overall, this was an outstanding series, and I can't wait to read more from this author.

I would definitely recommend this book, series, and terrific author.

Good

I LOVE all the shifter series. Love Charlene Hartnady. I wanted to give this book 5 stars but I found it lacking the usual passionate scenes between the characters. I was left wanting. The times Edith and Gage came together just didn't do it for me. All the other books in all her different shifter series were hot!!! This one, not so much. I am looking forward to reading about the griffons though. Still love her books.

A happy ending to shifters night. Gage is a man after my own heart, he's sweet caring and very, very protective of Edith. But who could blame him, she's a very special kind of woman who unknownly fell In love with him..And the adventure they were on was surreal and mind blowing in a sense cause there's something lurking above the skies..And I can't wait to read their story "The Feral" lol..can't wait..another good read Charlene...big fan Winzie19

Damsel

This story has lots of action packed adventure. It is a little lite on the couple... there is quite a bit about who kidnapped her, which is exciting but only slightly involved in the actual love story. I actually have already read the Feral story series so this book is a bit historical...I would read it again but I kept wanting more of Alicia and the twins plight. Its to bad they weren't held together at the Ferel camp. Oh well.

This is a great storyline from a really good author.I was completely captivated by this series ' storylines . I smiled,I felt sad and I was happy. A very well and smoothly written book by a new author (for me), and one which I will be reading and adding to my list of favourite authors.
Thank you Charlene for these 3 books and I am looking forward to reading more by you.

I've enjoyed every book I have read by Charlene and I've read them all. I loved how sweet Gage turned out to be and how feisty Edith was. I'm looking forward to the Feral. I would have liked a little more intimate moments and possibly a baby but I'm just a sucker for that type of story. Loved it and can't wait for more!!!

Sneaky

The final book in the series with an ending I did not see coming a all. Gage find his mate and loses her, then finds her and then loses her again. What? That is right, this book had a few curves that were so sneaky I have the applaud the writer. The mystery was solved but the reasons for the disappearances was so not what I thought. Good, enjoyable story and series end.

Good conclusion

A good ending to this short series, it is an interesting read it revolves around Gage and Edith's love story and is a hot romance but it is also an introduction to another species of shifter The Feral. It's a good shifter read with lots of hot love and interesting content.

Great series

I have enjoyed reading this series and am looking forward to the next one by this author. A different concept where the males are only allowed to take a mate when it is their turn. Not going to work well. When love is in the picture doesn’t matter if they are on the list or not.

Gage and Edith Are Perfect Together

Unchained, book 3 in Charlene Hartnady's Shifter Night series is a wonderful read. Gage and Edith were perfect together. We also get answers about what's attacking the shifters. Boy, I can't wait for their stories. With each new series the story gets deeper and the characters get even better.
