Calendar Men #1

Mr. January

Rate this book
There's no sense in pussy-footing around when it comes to love.

Albert E. Washington is a nerd and proud of it. He's a cool cat when he shifts, but for the most part, he's just a guy who sometimes tapes his glasses together and enjoys quality clothing like bowties and suspenders. When his boss has him acting as an errand boy, Albert finds himself in the middle of a sexy calendar photo shoot. It's a little too much for him to process and he ends up embarrassing himself.

Gregg is Mr. January—or he will be if the photo shoot ever gets going. Injuring his back when he trips on the set isn't going to speed things up. The appearance of a seriously hot guy who flips the switch on Gregg's geeky-man button makes a bad day great. Now, if Gregg can just get Albert to agree to a date, if he doesn't scare Albert off, if Albert will just pick up on the flirtatious things Gregg says...

That's a lot of ifs, but Gregg isn't intimidated by them. He knows his dream man when he meets him. Now all Gregg has to do is survive the photo shoot and convince Albert to give him, and love, a chance.

A few things about me...

I am a married mom of four who spends most of the day writing, either on stories or at the blog. I love to write as much as I love to read. I am generally quiet and laid back, choosing to let things slide off me rather than stick and irritate me.

And it's really hard trying to think of descriptives for myself, so I'll just let y'all e-mail me or comment at the blog if there's something specific you'd like to know, and spare you from reading a boring bio:D

This was a disappointing read for me. I haven't read this author in a long time, so I thought I would give it a shot. However, there was nothing exciting about it. One of the characters is a cat shifter...like house cat.😕 It really had nothing to add to the story. I'm really perplexed as to why it was even included. It was a typical "nerd" type falls for "hunky" guy, but nothing special. I will probably have to pass on this author, unless something shows up on KU.

I picked up this book because I like a hero who thinks nerds are hot. And the love story of the book while not very complicated is fun until....side plot stupidity and a lack of really rich world building.

So, yeah. Not great. Do I want more house cat shifter. Well, duh but could care less of the mystery (really not one) and mayhem. More couple time and cat culture please.

Independent reviewer for Divine Magazine, I was gifted my copy of this book.

I've read a few of Bailey's shifter books before, they tend to be short and sweet, so this one came out of left field and surprised me! And I've no idea WHY it surprised, just that I'm left feeling that and ya'll know I gotta share!

It's sweet, it's funny, (some proper laugh out loud moments!) it is emotional and it's sexy. And I really enjoyed it!

Albert is a geek and proud of it, and there are a few geeky jokes, and some not so funny comments, but they get shot down, right quick! Gregg is a model helping with a charity calendar and Albert has no illusions that he could ever land a guy such as Gregg, but Albert pushing all of Gregg's buttons, and some he didn't know he had so it's a matter of Gregg chasing Albert.

There is an on-going issues (I've already read book 2 when writing this review) with the photo shoot, and I don't know if it will ever get done, based on these two I've read, it might well be December before it gets done!

A thoroughly enjoyable read, some 180 pages, that fit in well on my list between two heavier reads, hence the hang over tag. I look forward to reading more of this series!

Albert works for an IT company and is a self proclaimed nerd. When his boss asks him to deliver a new camera to a hunky men calendar photo shoot, he meets Gregg.

Gregg is volunteering for the charity calendar and is Mr. January. When he trips on the set, he comes face to face with Albert and is instantly smitten. He knows he must ask him out, but he doesn't want to come on too strong and freak Albert out. Albert doesn't see his appeal and why would hunky Gregg be interested in him?? Gregg knows what he wants though, and its Albert!

This was a fun story to read! I liked Gregg and Albert together. They had some sizzling chemistry. The story also included a bit of a mystery when things begin to happen around the photo shoot. It held my attention till the very end!

The only thing that was a bit odd was the fact that Albert was a cat shifter. It seemed to have no real bearing on the story so it felt unnecessary. If the shifter aspect may have been used for something, then I could understand including it. As it is, I felt it was a missed opportunity to explore that dynamic.

I have enjoyed Bailey Bradford's books and this new Calendar Men series has potential!

M/M Romance with shifter talk
Triggers: Arson and Food poisoning
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Albert is a cat shifter and he is also a nerdy guy. He knows that most people look at him and don't see someone desirable. When he's asked by his boss to go to a photo shoot, he is immediately drawn to Gregg.

Gregg is a doctor who is volunteering at this photo shoot. He knows that it's for a good cause, but it has become the bane of his existence. When the photographer and all of the members fall ill, and other things start to happen around the shoot and to other people, there is an added mystery to the romance.

Gregg and Albert are a cute couple, but I'm not exactly sure what Albert's shifting abilities have to do with the story. Perhaps this will become more apparent with more books, but in this one it was just a confusing part of the story that was talked about but never really focused on.

I'm much more focused on the mystery than the relationship at the end of the book and do want to know what happens next.

2 and 1/2 Stars. I didn’t care much for this book. I didn’t see the point of Albert being a shifter. It did nothing for the plot and just seemed thrown in. The idea of a great looking guy falling for a sweet nerd was appealing, the execution was weak.

This was a cute story. Here we have a shy, geeky, awkward house cat shifter who falls for one of the human models on the shoot. Albert checks off every one of Gregg’s boxes in terms of what he’s attracted to. And once Gregg is able to push through the shyness and awkwardness which by the way—let me talk about that for a second. Albert’s awkwardness and shyness…the way that it was written too much. It would’ve been cute and funny if it was written with a little less…less. As it stands now, it was just a little too… extra. The tripping over things, choking, fainting, etc…it was just too much.

Aside from that, it was a cute story. The characters were okay; I liked them. Although the dialogue and some of the character’s actions was bordering on cheesy, I liked the book. I like this author, I’ve always enjoyed her work.

The book struck a good balance between being funny, sexy and sweet though. It’s a decent start and I’m looking forward to reading the rest in the series.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the first in a series, but I am not really sure that it sets the scene particularly heavily. The main focus of the Calendar men is sabotage and mayhem. But we do get to meet Gregg as he lives through long wait to be photographed as Mr January.

Whilst on set he meets a cute guy who is bringing a camera to the photographer, and the rest as they say is history. As he gets to know the cat shifter, Albert, he realises that this is serious. We get to enjoy watching them act on their feelings and their chemistry. Thanks to Albert's brother being more of a hookup guy, it takes Albert a little longer to believe that Gregg really likes him - but Gregg does all that he can to prove it.

I am looking forward to future installments to see how the whole hangs together.

I’m a big fan of this author’s paranormal stories. One of my favorite shifter series is her Southwestern Shifter series https://www.goodreads.com/series/4834..., so I was excited to read this based on that.

Well… though there are shifters in this story I’m not really sure why. There was little if any shifting or use of those characteristics. There wasn’t any “mate” type stuff which I adore, either. Instead this was more about a nerd and a hot guy and a mystery which only involved these guys peripherally.

I skimmed most of it and will not likely pick up more from this series.

If you’re in the mood for some slightly funny nerd/hot guy romance with a lot of smexy times – this might be for you.

3.5 stars. This was a first shifter story I've read for this author although I've read her non shifters (which are better). I thought this book was all about the hot sex and a drawn out photo shoot with old occurances happening.  Food poisoning and arson is also included in the storyline.
Well there yah go i learnt what clowder is a group of cats. A scene early on with Chris and Greg regarding Albert kinda spoilt it for me but kept reading.
Albert was a geek and absolutely loved his computers. He was a cat shifter when his boss sends him on an errand to a photographer studio.
Greg was posing for a charity calendar and sees his geeky fantasy. The charity calendar has a few hick ups along the way.

Final rating: 3.5⭐️

I think that throughout this book I was heading towards giving it a three stars but with the mention of ATLA and The Legend of Korra, I decided to give it a higher rating.

Whilst it still wasn’t perfect, I swooned at the end when he overheard. That was an entirely different way of going about saying I love you but OK. It worked, great.

Three plot twists, seriously? I think that that part of the plot was somewhat overdone, but I think that might come into play and expand in the later books.

It wasn’t a bad book and I had fun reading it, but at some point I had to put it down because somethings just were giving me secondhand embarrassment or was pulling me out of the story involuntarily.

I normally like this author's books, but some how this one fell flat.
I had a hard time seeing Albert and Gregg as being each others one and only. I just never felt it...
The side characters were not good either. Albert's brother felt like a cut out character just there to cause friction. The insta-BFF, Perry was annoying and I just couldn't see her as a bunny. Actually I couldn't even see her as female... Might just be the name, but I just don't know....

To me there was more annoyance in the story than enjoyment. I would probably not continue the series if not for the fact I've already purchased March and December too...

*crossing my fingers the stories picks up*

This could have been better in a lot of ways, it had interesting ideas but none are really used much. Such as the photo shoot and the shifters aspect, there basically side parts to some instant love and i got bored waiting for it to be over.

Gregg and Albert seemed interesting on their own, along with some of the side cast like Chris and Perry. But the moment they were together it pretty much went straight to sex and while obvious attraction there, i didn't feel the romance at all.

Overall it was ok for a quick and enjoyable enough read, but nothing memorable. Although will try some of the rest of the series see if any improvement, as the writing is good and basic ideas were fun.

Hilarious

Simply hilarious from beginning to end. Love the twist in the story and the characters and shifters were awsome. I wish there were more details around the ending. I feel like the last chapter before the epilogue was a bit rushed. It would have been more helpful atleast if it had stated in the last chapter how many months had gone by. I do wish I new what happened in regards to a certain female character in the book though.

I like me a good house-cat shifter but... Why was it taking them so long to shoot a calendar? Why did an anesthesiologist never seem to have to work? Nerd + hot dude. I liked Albert but Gregg was so perfect as to be a bit bland practically worshiping the ground Albert walked on and vowing he'd be eternally grateful for winning his love. Eh. It just fell flat for me.

I'll agree with everyone that is asking themself why there are shifters in this book. It brings nothing to the table. Although maybe that justifies the insta-lust? "That guy smells interesting. I'm DTF."

It was and ok read. I liked the story but could of been a little better in the plot I thought that was kinda boring and after reading so many gay romance novels I tend to skip over all the sex in the books I prefer more of the story

An enjoyable read seeing Albert and Gregg get together and seeing them go through some drama along the way. The book is part of a series so there is underlying issue that is not completed but I feel the ending for the MCs is at its best.

MEH. This book was only OK. Ending was really disappointing. Not enough interaction with other shifters. Like him being a shifer was an afterthought of the author.

This was a cute book where shifters are normal. But as much as they are normal they don't factor into the story much. I was into the sex but that was about it. I'm not sure I was drawn into this world enough to read further books in the series.

Through the first half or so of this book I was sure that I'd be giving it four stars. I laughed a lot in the beginning and I really liked the characters. However, the story meandered off subject way too much for my liking. I see no reason, at all, for the Marco drama. NONE! Not only did it do nothing for the story but it wasn't even resolved. SMH... I would have preferred the time spent on getting to see more of of MCs romance instead of that.

This was extremely disappointing. One and loved other books by this author but I'll admit it's been a while. I don't know if the author is losing their touch or running out of ideas but wow this sucked. The whole shorter thing felt like an afterthought. There was not a connection between them. The whole story just felt ridiculous.
