When Sofia first learned about the Diasodz and the world of Caelagios, she never imagined that one day her own mother would lock her in a grimy cell. She never thought that she’d be tortured for standing up for those whom she loved. And just when she thinks things couldn’t get worse, Sofia learns that Damiana’s levels of hatred have no boundaries: she plans to use Sofia to get revenge on all of her enemies.
Ar’ch is desperate to find and rescue Sofia from the Raizyns, but when Rafe shows up offering to help him, Ar’ch refuses to trust him. After all, Rafe is the one who kidnapped Sofia from them. Rafe explains that Sofia’s life is on the line, but Ar’ch feels that Rafe is leading them into a trap.
Damiana’s plan to win the war is working perfectly. Rafe has infiltrated their enemies. Sofia is still a youngling and must obey her every command. Even Drake is moving forward with gathering their armies. No one will be able to defeat her, especially with her newfound source of strength: Sofia.
The war has come, and no one is safe. Will Sofia save the Diasodz, or will Damiana control her fate and force her to destroy the people she loves the most? Loyalties will be challenged. Lines will be crossed. Sacrifices will be made, and not everyone will survive.
Yvette M. Calleiro is a heavily addicted reader of both young adult and adult novels. She spends most of her time pseudo-living in paranormal worlds with her fictional friends (and boyfriends). When she’s living among real people, Yvette M. Calleiro is a middle school Reading and Language Arts teacher. She’s been sharing her love of literature with her students for over twenty years. Besides writing about the various characters that whisper (and sometimes scream) in her head, she enjoys traveling, watching movies, spending quality time with family and friends, and enjoying the beauty of the ocean.
Yvette lives in Miami, Florida, with her incredible son who has embraced her love for paranormal and adventurous stories. She also shares her space with an assortment of crazy saltwater animals in her 300-gallon tank.
The One Awakened by Yvette M. Callero is the final book in the epic fantasy series, Chronicles of the Diasodz, that is rich with world-building and unforgettable, complex characters. War is on the horizon between the forces of light (the Diasodz) that worship the Goddess and the demons of darkness (the Raizyns) that follow Lucifer. A prophecy foretells that Sophie will be the savior of the Diasodz who will thwart the destructive powers of the Raizyns ruled by her mother, Queen Damiana. The story begins when three rival brothers with magical affinities to earth, air, or water begrudgingly unite to rescue Sophia from Damiana's nefarious scheme to steal her powers. With the newfound strength, Damiana believes she can defeat the Diasodz in war. In the epic conclusion to the series, everyone's loyalties are tested as betrayal and political intrigue cascade each side into battle with unexpected consequences as to who will live or die.
Author Callero masterfully tells the epic tale from the various points of view of a cast of characters you love or hate. These are three-dimensional characters that not only battle each other, but they must also confront their internal conflicts of competing loyalties. Every chord of raw emotion strikes you as the forces of light and darkness clash in the epic conclusion. Unconditional love is the ultimate victor in this riveting adventure that will leave you breathless with unexpected twists at the climax. Even though I read this book as a standalone without having read the others in the series, I was immediately drawn into the story and engaged with the array of characters, making me want to read the previous books.
I highly recommend The One Awakened to readers who enjoy reading epic fantasy with universal themes of love, loyalty, and friendship.
I’ve never read any series faster than ‘Chronicles of the Diasodz’ by Yvette M. Calleiro. What a fabulous closure! Though it was predictable that evil would never win over love and light but it has been accomplished in a magnificent manner by bringing all the elements of life together. Once the darkness grows murkier, it has to edge out or it would be banished by incandescence. Those who choose the Goddess and believe in her power can never be vanquished by the sinister designs of demons. Damiana could never understand it, as she was evil incarnate. She tried to draw strength from her daughter, gloated over her power and planned to win the war against Diasodz.
Willow tree with brilliant golden leaves symbolizes all that Sophia is endowed with – love, light, courage and dependability. She shines despite being a youngling and a Raizyn. I admire how each character is given the time to grow out of his/her fears and insecurities to act according to their own wishes. The conflicts within their minds have been handled in a perceptive manner and even the secondary characters like Mel and Khameel develop beyond expectations. However, there is a lot of repetition through thoughts of various characters and therefore it drags a little. The ending is also unnecessarily pulled out. I highly recommend Chronicles of the Diasodz – to be read in order.
The One Awakened by Yvette M. Calleiro is the last book in the Chronicles of the Diasodz series. Although I’m sad that I’m done reading all five books, I have to say, this one was the most satisfying.
As the savior of her people, Sophia must prepare to face her destiny as war ensues. Three brothers need to set aside their quarrels in order to come together and protect the one they love. Damiana, queen of the demons, poses a huge threat to the Diasodz after stealing from Sophia. Will the army of darkness win this war?
The characters seemed richer and more fascinating, perhaps because I’ve gotten to know them so well throughout the series. There were major secrets revealed, prophecies fulfilled, love connections, and alliances made between the most unlikely people, as well as twists and surprises throughout the story. The plot had me flipping the pages well into the night.
The One Awakened is an exciting conclusion to a wonderful series.
Rich in imagery and in conflict, this final book of the series kept me riveted. Secrets revealed, prophecies fulfilled, and relationships filled with twists, turns and surprises kept me eagerly turning the pages for more. The author masterfully engages the reader’s emotions, from anger and confusion to joy and grief, as her characters try to make sense of the people they love and the ones they hate. Nothing is as it seems. As war looms, loyalties are formed, and betrayals are made for good or evil, and the question remains; will the savior know what to do to save them all? Will the Diasodz win or will the Raizyns have their chance to rule the world. Is loyalty to the Goddess voluntary slavery, and does rebellion against her truly result in freedom? The entire series is wonderful reading, and this final book is both satisfying and whets the appetite for more.
Unexpected ending Chronicles of the Diasodz has been an eye-opening series that kept me hooked throughout. By the start of this last book, I thought I knew how the story would end, but there were further surprises in store. This delightful fantasy continued at break-taking speed and captivated me once more as the complex plot unfolded. It was so intriguing and well written that I did not want it to finish. When it did, there was an unexpected ending that wrapped up the various threads but left me wanting more. The author mentioned she has other stories planned, based on the characters from the Diasodz world. I look forward to reading them. In conclusion, a sincere thank you to Yvette Calleiro for writing such a marvellous set of books. They took me away from the sad times we are experiencing and left me with a sense of optimism for the future.
Although I am sad to see the “Chronicles of the Diasodz” end---it was a completely satisfying conclusion! With war coming: sides are chosen, and relationships are tested. I loved the growth of the characters especially: Rafe, Angel, Ar’ch and Sofia. The difference between corruption and hate versus understanding and love becomes very clear. I was extremely invested with the outcome of characters that I had grown to love over the series and wasn’t disappointed. I don’t want to say more and spoil the ending, but this is a fantasy YA series I highly recommend! Start from the beginning and take the journey with Sofia. I look forward to the upcoming prequels!
Having followed this series from the beginning, it's so difficult to believe it has ended. From the beginning, the characters were easy to love or hate. As young adults, the characters faced many obstacles and triumphs and through those tribulations, they come to realize who they are and what they stand for. Book 5 brings a true sense of closure to the characters and they finally "grow" into who they were meant to be. Every detail is accounted for and every story line is brought to closure, leaving the reader satisfied, with just a hint of "what if" or "is there more?" The books are rich with details and it's a must read series for all fans of young adult fiction.
This story is the perfect end to an amazing series! I laughed and cried with the characters that I have loved through all 5 books. Yvette is an amazing writer who brings this amazing world to life. I cannot wait to read more of her stories! Especially if Sofia and Ar’ch are back in them!
The finale of the Chronicles of the Diasodz had me on the edge of my seat. Every page kept me entranced in Yvette’s amazing world, and I had to force myself to put it down so I could get some sleep. Not many books have affected me the way this one did. I sat with the family, waiting to know the outcome of one of the characters (no spoilers), absolutely worried that the outcome wouldn’t be what I hoped for.
This fifth book lived up to expectations. Sofia and Ar'ch didn't disappoint. They are the main characters in this never-ending love story. The author's writing style made for a pleasant reading experience.
I highly recommend this book and give it five stars.
This was the one I was waiting for, the culmination of the series. And it did not disappoint. The characters were just as rich now as they ever were. The plot advanced at a comfortable pace. Every character arc came to a satisfying, or at least a logical, resolution and all the open threads were tied up. It will be sad to see these characters go, but the afterward promises prequel(s) that I can't wait to read.
