When you’re all alone, all you can do is think…

Peron thinks a lot.

It is all he can do. He wants to talk. But there’s nobody to talk to.

Surrounded by millions, but alone.

Why? Because he’s a freak. It isn’t that nobody wants to talk to him, it is that he’s the only one who can.

Peron is a Gleran – a humanoid insect living in a hive alongside countless like him. Peron feels a strong connection to the hive. It’s his family, after all.

But in his efforts to talk with his family, he may end up hurting himself more than anything else.

Hive mind in a very intriging story written in a very different style from Nicholas's previous stories. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it kept me thinking what was actually happening and makes you read more to find out. I love this style of exploring the unknown, and in this intance it's being inside the mind of an insect who wants to leave the hive mind to become a free thinker! Each short story like this enchances the main books in the Warpmancer series. Definitely one to keep your interest up. Well done Nicholas.

This was truly a strange story. The author gets 5 stars for creativity and imagination, though. I read it in one sitting. It is a standalone story, but part of a larger group of books. It does have a beginning and end, though, which is always good in this kind of series. Having no real idea of what to expect, I can tell you that this certainly was not it. It was different and entertaining, though.

A very simply written, but really good, short story, telling the tale of Peron from his birth to meeting his first human.

I had little idea what to expect from this when I started reading it, apart from thinking it might not be something I liked, so I'm really very pleasantly surprised to have liked it so much. In fact, I might even go check out the rest of the Warpmancer books!

I enjoy back / origin stories and this is a great one. It’s interesting to see where Peron came from and how he got to where he is now. The fascinating short story. Can’t wait to read more from this series.
