Cole was written by USA Today Bestselling & Award Winning Author Xyla Turner
Cole When I first saw her in action, I knew. Knew there was something different about her. I knew that I wanted her. She was sexy in her own right, smooth and no-nonsense. Grown and f*cking beautiful. That's what I wanted. What I needed. A mature woman who knew what she wanted, lived her life and wasn't looking for someone to help find herself. I wanted stability. And I found it. Found her. But all hell broke loose.
Bethany: I was an ex-wife and according to my grown daughter, who still lived with me, the worst mother in the world. My ex-husband still treated our daughter like she was ten and on most days, she did act the part. I, on the other hand, was looking forward to retirement after serving my twenty-five years in my field. Also, definitely not looking for a man. A hot and sexy man who made me feel alive again. No. I was over that. I thought I was.
Cole and Bethany are an over 40's romance novel with the hot and sexy because love and sex have no age limits. This novel is mature, funny and a real HEA.
Xyla Turner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She has always been a writer, even as a teenager, she wrote short stories and essays that won awards and nation-wide competitions. Xyla is an avid reader of romance novels and a sucker for sassy females and dominant males. She is a lifelong learner, High School Vice-Principal and a pretty good Auntie. Outside of reading, Xyla likes to spend time with her family and friends, experiment with dangerous adventures and travel. She writes different genres, but her favorite is romance.
Now this was a story to love - "Cole" by Xyla Turner! Why you ask? Well, this couple, Cole and Bethany were mature or can I say, "rightly-seasoned" but they knew exactly what they wanted and needed in a partner. This was just a heartwarming and refreshing story which is rare in the IR books I've read. Turner always writes from her very soul applying relatable, real-life situations (menopause, gold diggers, children and exes), loads of drama and the humor in this story was so on point! Hilariously so!!!!!!!! That daughter, that spoiled rotten daughter!
Cole, a single retired football player who is not looking to meet a woman, meets a woman named Bethany. Life is good and uncomplicated, and then it's just good. This is an older couple romance which you don't see too often in Romance. Overall, I enjoyed it but it's too darn short.
Cole kicked up my rating a 1/2 star because he said ...
My fingers were twisting nipples whether they were facing me or facing down. My teeth would bite them, my hands would squeeze them and my lips would suck on them too.
The look on Bethany’s face told me what she wanted. The hardness of my cock, told me what I needed but the beating of my heart spoke more.
“God, I never knew you to be such a cold bitch. Is this because I wanted a divorce? -Bryce
“Cole, that’s not necessary.” I stood and picked up my phone. -Bethany
One of his brown eyebrows rose in question before he said, “It’s absolutely fucking necessary. You’re not going to be any more bitches. That’s for damn sure. -Cole
This story is short and ends at 56 percent. The rest of the book are first chapter sneak peeks of past releases.

Thank you Xyla Turner for writing about a mature couple! It was great to see someone that looks and thinks like me. The romance part was great but what I liked was how art imitated life, right down to the ungrateful woman child daughter! I was cheering and pumping my fist in the air when Bethany called the police to get Brittany out of her house! Glad there weren’t all these “BFFs” sticking their noses in Bethany ‘s business and harassing her to go out or start dating.
Cole and Bethany were a great fit for each other. There wasn’t much drama to threaten the relationship but whatever there was, it was handled very realistically. Loved it when Cole put Bethany,s ex in his place. I think Bethany was still feeling the tremors from the divorce and too tired to do it herself.
This is another of my favourite authors. Bethany and Cole are over 40s looking for love. Once Cole sees Bethany he knows that she is the one and he goes after her resolutely. My kind of guy. I love how this author writes her leading men. Men who know what they want and pursue it relentlessly but with love and devotion. Great read would highly recommend. It is a quick read.
This was a new one for me but I really enjoyed reading about an older couple. I loved Cole and Bethany. They were just the sweetest couple. I really loved Cole. He was alpha without being a jerk. He let Bethany handle her own issues but when he could tell it was getting to much for her, that is when he decided to step in. He could teach these young bucks in romance books a few things. One thing I can say is there isn't that unnecessary drama like with the books with younger folks. Though they had a misunderstanding Cole cleared that up immediately. That daughter was a mess but I love how Bethany handled that. Sometimes as a parent that is what you need to do. If you are looking for something different, I definitely recommend this book.
This is over forty done well. I must say that I loved how unwavering Cole is with his feelings for Bethany. I enjoyed reading about a secured woman who wasn’t afraid to be strong, independent, and confident. Just that alone made the book a winner! But Xyla Turner breaks these couples down in a way that pulls the reader further into her web of freaking awesome storytelling! This book is about sexy grown folks for the grown a$$ women reading it! Good to the last page! Wanted to read more of them!
This is about grown-up love and knowing what you want. Bethany and Cole let nothing get in the way .They faced everything together and head on. No games, cheating or I misunderstood what you meant. It was clear as crystal from beginning to end. They were each other's ONE. The chemistry was so hot and so were the love scenes. Love their journey and story.💕💕👏👏👏
What else can you ask for when you find a man who knows exactly what he wants and isn't afraid to grab hold of it? Cole is that kind of hero. Knowing who he is and not getting swell headed is what I liked most about him. I also enjoyed Cole's voice and his persistence when it came to winning Bethany. With her, it was good seeing her do exactly what she needed to, before falling in with Cole's plans.
Her situation was all kinds of complicated and I think, like many parents, Bethany allowed her daughter and ex-husband to take advantage. I was rooting for Cole and Bethany to get their HEA and wasn't disappointed.
Because Lord save me from flighty game playing indecisive romance leads who spend the entire book trying to figure out what they want and then play complicated games to get it.
This couple does no such thing. He's a proper gentleman who knows when to step in to help and when to back off and let her shine. She is totally no nonsense and straightforward and actually has a spine! Neither of them need each other for money, connections, or anything other than just themselves. So refreshing!
Lost one star because the plot is pretty simple compared to other good books I've read. Still, the characters are so likeable (that daughter though!) and the sex is pretty hot! Plus, and this is totally a proofreader thing, I was so tempted to give this 5 stars just because the author or editor know that the word is 'addictive', not 'addicting'. Cue the Hallelujah Chorus! Yes, I'm a grammar geek.
My quirks aside, I'm off to read another Xyla Turner!
So glad to read a mature romance that I could totally relate to as a woman over 40. Kudos to the author for acknowledging that life is great and full to of surprises as women enter the next chapter in their lives.
I loved this story all the way to the end. This was a 📓 I could not put down. I thought the characters were really great. Since picking up the first book Trent by this author I knew I would continue to read her work. Each book is different and all the characters you seem to love. This book was a 5 ⭐ book for me.
I enjoyed reading Bethany and Cole's story. By been over forty, they didn't have time for games and bull dong. They were straight and told it like it is. I enjoyed the ease of the characters with each other and how they encouraged, protected, supported one another. Cole and Bethany showed how the sex drive for people over forty is very live and well and how a true connection can make all the difference. Brittany needed a switch to her selfish and ungrateful 23 years old behind, and I secretly wanted Bethany to give it to her. . Kicking Brittany out of her house was the best thing to happen to their mother and daughter relationship. I'm glad that Bryce finally caught on and learned how to speak and treat Bethany. He for sure didn't want to catch Cole's hands.
This story was fun and flirty mixed with love, relationships, and drama. It was well written and the progression of the characters was evident. This novella was about 55%, but it was packed with a lot of details. Nothing was rushed or lacking. Cole and Bethany gave this single 41 years old hope. I would recommend this story to others.
The man was at an age to where he knew what he wanted and what he did not want in a woman. He knew he wanted a REAL woman and not one with fake anything. He wanted a mature woman who had experienced life just like him. He was tired of the gold digging women who were only interested in what he could do for them. He'd had several failed relationships and at his age of 49, he wanted more for his life. That is why when he saw Bethany, he knew she was the one (Le One). She was age related to him, a mature woman who'd raise her bratty daughter, a hard working career woman with a sense of humor, and knew what she wanted too.
I'm so glad Xyla wrote a story about a mature couple. These stories are few and far in between. I just love them. Mature people fall in love too. Xyla wrote a sweet love story about a couple seeking and finding love in middle age. Now that they've found it, they had to deal with all of the issues surrounding older couples, from a bratty grown azz child, health issues and exes. I really enjoyed reading this refreshing story.
Once again Xyla Turner made love beyond youth be fabulous. I loved how Cole and Bethany instantly connected. Yes they went through a service and fulfilled the other 3 dates but the connection was other worldly from word 1. I liked that Cole took up for Bethany even though he knew she could handle her business. The whole story was fun to read. I wanted to smack Brittany for her total deception. A mother will always love her child but I was glad she put her foot down with her daughter and her ex-husband. Cole claimed her and all that goes with having an ex and spoiled 23 year old brat. The bumps in the road were not over the top. They were real life decisions that we make once we're over 40. LOVED IT!
I love this book. It's refreshing to read about two people over 40 who want and deserve hea. Cole and Bethany are adults who are past the angst of young love and appreciate strength, commitment and love from a person who's lived life. People who've experienced life and all its nuances and come through whatever has been thrown at them. And I especially love when two people take the time to talk through their problems (I'll forgive Bethany her one moment of doubt) I've read a few of the authors other books and I have to say this is my favorite so far. Thanks Ms. Turner for a wonderful story.
There's no reason to always expect pregnancy within the main characters. I'm beginning to like the stories of older people finding love.
Cole and Bethany met by chance using the same matchmaking service. They had already signed up for 3 dates each with other people, promising that they'd give their connection a try if their respective dates didn't work out.
Well they ended up with a HEA with each other. Im not giving tube dirty sweaty, but I'll say I enjoyed the life they built together.
I've read several of Xyla's books and haven't been disappointed yet.
I connected with Bethany in so many ways. Same age, although I'm a widow, and menopausal. I hope love comes my way again, and that I have the maturity to recognize it. Embracing oneself at this stage in life is well told in this beautiful novella. Thank you Ms. Turner, I appreciate your talents and I will continue to support your works. Hope comes in many forms and at many times we don't realize what it is, Cole and Bethany represent hope in a way that I enjoyed. Highly , read.
This story is so sweet. Got to love Cole. The only thing story wise that takes this down from four stars for me is the out of character meltdown that takes place at the end. Not only does it not fit the established identity of the character but it seemed random. Also, there is a problem with continuity with this incident, something happened, then it didn't happen in the explanation, like what - I'm confused? Overall a satisfying read with some grammatical and continuity issues.
Very well written life/love story for older couple Cole & Bethany. They are intelligent, mature, accomplished & flat out adorable. Kudos to how Brittany was made to grow up. And I loved how Bethany & Coles' relationship evolved & strengthened over time. There are some editing & grammar issues but they could not distract from my delight in this story which I finished in one sitting. Well done!👍
As a woman over 40, I need some rromance that hits exactly on the issues we face. Getting old but still wwnting love! Both main characters were well developed and independent! It was great to see Cole persue Bethany and her be hesitant and life provide some resistance! And that daughter, ugh! I laughed at some of her antics, but cried because doggone! Definitely a good book!
I really enjoyed reading this story. Bethany was funny and Cole knew what he wanted as soon as he laid eyes on her. What she did with her daughter was absolutely perfect. I think I would have gone off the deep end but she handled it well. Cole was soooo...supportive, I want to meet someone like him. Great story. Did not make you feel extremely old for romance thank God!
Two people in their late forties finding love. They both thought that at this stage in their lives love had passed them by, but as you can see it is never too late. Cole had Beth's back and let it be known to her ex that the way he spoke to her will no longer be tolerated. Beth finally saw through Britt forgetfulness and sometimes that is what it takes to get grown ass kids to grow up.
Love has no age limit and Cole demonstrated it's limitless and ageless ability. He knew from day one that he had found the one. Bethany was straight laced and showed how women process all of the different stages of getting older. Once she embraced those discoveries she was able to embrace her true love.
I absolutely love Cole and Beth, damn it, the man knows what he wants and not afraid to go after it. Very strong characters, no B.S., GREAT storyline. The tough love Beth had to show her daughter and the way Cole handle the ex-husband, hotdamn!!! even his ex fiance... I love Cole!!
Cole and Bethany were a great couple. I enjoyed his take charge attitude when it came to her ex-husband phone calls. Cole not letting her pull away from him when he knew she was the one he waited for was nice. Her daughter was something else and mama did the right thing.
Wonderful and charming story of finding mature love
I liked both characters Cole and Bethany were a very nice couple, individually and collectively they were entertaining to read. Bethany's daughter Brittany however was a complete nightmare. On the whole this was a lovely short story to read with a HEA.
I found the story to be sweet romantic passionate and sexy. The author draws out so much of what it is to be human a woman a black woman and being over the age of 40 and feeling sexy and knowing that you can accomplish anything with the right person by your side.
Cole and Bethany were what each other needed at the right time in there lives. They both possessed strong personalities that lead them far in their lives. Now Bethany’s daughter I would not have allowed her to get away with her behavior and that ex husband; there are no words for his behavior but I am glad Cole put him in his place.
This was an nice read with characters over 40. The storyline was good, and the characters were well developed. This was my first book by this author, & I will definitely be reading more.
