Good start to the series, but questions remain
Drake Conway works for the Government and somehow has special powers and an evil group called Oculus wants to take his four sons in order to do research on them to see if the powers have been passed on genetically. Since Drake works for the Government he is protected from Oculus, and his wife and kids are in hiding. However, he was missing them and took off one day to have dinner with them. It turned out to be a grave mistake because Oculus followed him and broke in, killing his wife, shooting him multiple times before his young sons were able to kill the intruders with their powers.
After that, Drake had his second in command move his sons to other families and not tell him where they went. He told the second in command that once Oculus was taken care of, he would ask for their addresses. However, before that happened, Oculus killed the one man that knew where he children were. Drake has spent the next 25 years searching for his boys in order to find them before Oculus does.
This is the story of Ryder who joined the army at age 18 and kept moving up until he was in a position in international intelligence. His specific abilities make him perfect for working alone and he is very good at what he does. However people are starting to notice that he has special skills. A contact of Drakes has called and said he thinks he knows where one of his sons is. Also Ryder feels someone is watching him. I won’t give away any more spoilers, but a love interest is pulled into the mix, and they hit it off very quickly.
I am liking this story and can’t wait to here about the rest of the brothers. It looks like there is also a “Harder” series of 4 books, so I wonder if those are the children of these brothers or new people altogether.

This is the first story in the Hard series. Drake Conway made a misjudgment which resulted in the death of his wife and separation from his 4 sons for almost 30 years. Each of his sons, like himself, has certain abilities which make them highly valuable to the nefarious organization Oculus. Drake has spent these past decades searching for his sons so he can protect them and defeat Oculus.
This is Ryder’s story. While on assignment with a very Special Ops unit of the Army his mission is compromised, and he is seriously injured. He is transferred to an elite hospital in Chicago, where he meets Dr. Paige Steward. Ryder recognizes the threats they both face. Will he be able to keep them safe? Will Paige be strong enough to trust Ryder, especially once she knows the truth about him, and it’s more than just herself she is concerned about? Will Drake finally find Ryder only to lose him?
The story is fast paced and definitely keeps your interest. The characters are easy to connect with. Chloe Fischer writes an intense, intriguing, suspenseful romance. Her stories are real page turners, easy flow, full of action and emotions, with strong characters. I definitely recommend this book and series!

Great beginning to a new series! The ending was a bit odd but hopefully it is because it leads right into book two.
This story has quite a bit of background in it. Drake has special powers and he passed them onto his children. He was hiding his family from a covert group named Oculus who wants to study and use the boys for military purposes. Unfortunately, they followed him home one night and attacked. The boys were taken away and hideen into different homes for safety. Only Drake's second in command knew where each boy was. So when Oculus killed him five years later, Drake began searching for his boys with no idea where to look.
Ryder is the oldest of four boys but he doesn't remember his past. He is around thirty now and is a special ops officer in a special division I'm the military. Something goes wrong on one of his assignments. He also has never been close to his family. He never knew that he wasn't their real child until now. This series is going to be amazing. I love how this family is able to have certain abilities. It keeps you guessing as to what they are. In this story we see where it all starts. A father who is trying to fight the good fight but looses everything. His wife is killed, his sons taking of grid. But finally after 20 years he finds his first born Ryder and it's like tings are slowly falling into place but when things shift just a little he finds the woman who is meant to be his. Paige is this fun loving, free spirit Dr who has an abusive boyfriend. Finally after all is said and done things happen, bad things and Ryder can't deal. Now they are on the run with his father but klofe throws another curve their way. I can't wait to see how the rest of this plays out. It's going to be a very interesting ride to say the least. Definitely 5 stars. I voluntarily reviewed this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.

“Hard Instincts” is an amazing well-developed action filled story. No words can do justice to this book. I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down. What happens to Drake's sons to keep them safe after his wife is murdered is so sad. They are split among different families and know nothing of their past or each other. Years go by and Ryder one of his sons is an operative in the military and has special powers. When he is injured Dr Paige Steward is the physician who treats him. There is intense chemistry between Paige and Ryder. “Hard Instincts” is suspenseful, intriguing, exciting, tension filled and steamy. This book is a MUST READ.

A Very Good Start. (3.5 Star's.)
As a first time reader of a book by Chloe Fischer, I can honesty say that I was not disappointed & I will without a doubt be reading her next book "Hard Time" Xavier and Danica's story.
If you've read the blurb, there's no need for me to explain the gist of what it's about, only that as a quick read I enjoyed the fast paced, action packed, page turning, well written story throughout & have no problems recommending this story.

Not your typical military hottie
Chloe Fischer brings a fresh voice to the paranormal realm. Ryder can do things nobody would expect. Years after his family was torn apart by an organization wanting to harness the powers he and his siblings portray he is once again on their radar. When he is set up on an op he is sent to a hospital where he meets Paige. I'm totally hooked on this series and look forward to seeing where these brothers are lead.

Wow, what a fabulous, powerful, well written story this is, its full of action and caught my interest from the beginning, the storyline kept me intrigued and I wanted to know what would happen next. The intense chemistry between the characters Paige and Ryder, was awesome and intoxicating, I couldn't put it down.

Riveting! Thrilling! A wonderful read. Do not miss this thrilling, emotional read of a family being reunited to take down evil. This book series is a must read from Chloe Fischer. She did an amazing job of weaving this story for us with intrigue, suspense and hot sex.

Different from Chloe’s other books in that it had a faster pace and (for me at least) a lot more suspense. The way it was written also lent to feel of the book and the suspense.
From the start I had to know what was happening… I could not put the book down. Read it in one sitting!
I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the rest of the series.

Extremely entertaining, captivating, emotional and very interesting sexy read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Combining military/special ops and paranormal abilities, this book was a thrilling, action-packed story. I loved how the family protected each other, and the attraction between Ryder and Paige made this romance steamy and explosive. Looking forward to reading more about these characters!

Hard Instincts by Chloe Fischer was an ok read.
You don't really get to know the characters before the story is over.
I ended up asking myself, "What just happened?"
It wasn't a cliffhanger in the original since, it just felt like a lot was missing.

It's a no for Paige
I don't like Paige. Just no. She is selfish, very selfish and exactly like those Mary Sue. Pretending to be innocent and who only thinks about herself that's it even when she has a bad past.
I liked Ryder, I can understand his point of view but not Paige.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of this book that I received for free.
Paige, head of general surgery, meets Ryder, a black ops contractor, when he is injured during a mission. The story gets twisted and turned as we delve into their pasts and they deal with the possibilities of their future. A great suspense filled romance for lovers of supernatural or paranormal romance.
