GLYNNIS CAMPBELL is a USA Today bestselling author of swashbuckling "medieval action-adventure romances," mostly set in Scotland, and a charter member of The Jewels of Historical Romance--12 internationally beloved authors. She has over two dozen books published in eight languages. Glynnis once rocked in an all-girl band called The Pinups on CBS Records, did voiceovers for the MTV animated series, "The Maxx," Diablo and Starcraft videogames, and Star Wars audio adventures, and is married to a rock star. She loves to transport readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is alive and well!
Set in ninth century Pictland, Glynnis Campbell has written a lovely and original romance. The setting was new to me and I think the author did a very good job of creating a believable atmosphere and engaging characters. It's a but if a twist on Beauty and the Beast, with a dollop of Me and Mrs Smith. Brude MeqqUvan is a suitable gentle giant, and Kimbery, a shieldmaiden is as fierce as she is small and pretty. I also think the beautiful cover does justice to the story as well.
A YULETIDE KISS is a very short story, but surprisingly complete, with lots of facts about both charactersa and a few delightful surprises. It is a cute, sweet, and sexy story, and I enjoyed the author's writing style: clear, simple, and descriptive, which was ideal for the mood and era. I would have preferred it to be longer, but it was well worth the time spent.
I was gifted a copy of this book, which I voluntarily read and reviewed with no incentive or pressure to do so. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Shieldmaiden Kimbery of Rivenloch is furious with her parents, she’s been given the choice of finding a bridegroom or her parents will do it for her. Seeing that she’s short a man, her parents chose the barbarian Brude the Brutal, she decides to slip away from her home and maybe from the brutish Brude. Believing that she’s outsmarted her parents warriors she seeks refuge in the towns tavern. What she finds is passion and a man that is her equal in every way! Brude is astounded to find the young woman who barged in the room demand to kiss her at knife point. She didn’t run or scream away from him. The kiss bewitched him and is shocked to find that this woman who looks like an angel stands her ground and fights as good as any warrior. She’s none other than his betrothed bride.
Enjoyable quick read, well written and I liked the characters the only thing I wished it was a little longer maybe more conflict between the main characters. It’s the perfect fix when you want a Glynnis Campbell story, a small entree before the meal.
I received a gifted copy from the author for my unbiased opinion.
ACH! Lassie, I really want more of these two. I realize it is a short, fast story, but the characters are so complete, it seems a shame to leave them. I realize that the purpose of the story is finished, but I was so deeply into the story, I wanted some twists and turns rather than such a nicely straightforward beginning, middle, and end. On the other hand, bit you just need out of your world for an hour or so - here's a nice wintery tale for you!
Glynnis Campbell has written a sweet and lovely story. Brude the Bold and Kimberly the shield maiden, both not wanting to wed meets in a funny way. I won't give spoilers, but will recommend it highly.
Always a joy, Campbell never fails to dazzle me with her story telling, instantly transporting you back in time with her colourful descriptions and wit. Brude and Kimbery are both fantastically captivating characters, that despite featuring in this very short novella, manage to draw you in with their rather polished and intriguing backstories that only helps to heighten their appeal and emotional connection when they meet for that much eagerly anticipated first time, when undoubtedly sparks fly and they eventually open up and entrust their fears. Loved it - would very much enjoy hearing more from this spirited yet endearing warrior couple. Always love a story that pairs the hardened warrior hiding his alluring soft side with a feisty heroine. A gem of a read that can be enjoyed in a spare hour.
This novella was really short and its about Avril's daughter, Kimbery, from the novella, The Shipwreck. Time has passed from the novella and Kimbery is the heir of Rivenloch and she's the only daughter who is not married. She runs away before her marriage in order to find a groom of her choosing and goes to a inn which is known to have brave warriors assist. There she meets without knowing her fiancee who is there to lose his virginity. The story is hilarious and the ending is sweet.
Kimbery has grown into a young woman. But isn't to happy. What is she to do when her parents, Brandr and Avril, decide who she will marry? What is Brude the Brutal to do? He's a warrior not husband material. But what are they to do when unbeknownst to the two they meet under unmistakable circumstances? Do they blame fate or the trickery of their families? You will have to read A Yuletide Kiss to find out. This a great short read by Glynnis Campbell. I can only wonder what Glynnis has in store for Kimbery and Brude next.
This Shieldmaiden was raised fighting with her adopted Viking brothers; the Warrior was known far and wide as brutal with the countenance that made grown men cringe and young maidens run. She runs away to an ale house when her parents tell her she’s betrothed to the Brute where he’s waiting for a harlot to teach him all he needs to know about the marriage bed. The fun that ensues makes this such a great story. Loved it!
This was a very quick read, which was very entertaining because both of these characters were strong. I wish the story could have been longer. It was good, but I would have preferred to go into deeper. I loved the fact that her mother Avril and Brandr, from the original first story b of the Maids of Rivenloch were included.
Glynnis Campbell weaves a lovely, but short historical romance. As a stand alone, this feels a little on the 'unfinished' side. As part of the series, this is a nice little well written bite. I recommend this as possibly a introduction to this series.
I enjoyed this short story very much Brude made a stop at an where his brothers where they convinced him to have a fumble with a harlot before meeting his bride. His bride is convinced that the man her parents have arranged to be her husband is a monster so she runs away and finds herself at the same Inn as her future husband.
Way to short. I was hoping it had more to do with the warrior women children. I do love the way the story came together. All I can say is more warrior women stories please....
Passionate and sensual from start to finish. This very short story is filled with strong characters and an endearing romance. Great writing pulls you in from the start and you cannot help loving this couple!
Adorable Christmas story set in the Rivenloch series. Of course it is so ironic and you can see the switch coming, but it is a sweet story and one you won't want to miss!!! Good read!!
This is a novella so it moves too quickly for huge characters development but the plot is entertaining. The heroine is escaping from her brutal intended and the hero is getting a little experience before marrying. What could go wrong?
Who doesn’t want to object and fight a plan that you had no part in. Being told something and wanting it are two different things. That’s basically what this book is about. Add in the love and vengeance and you’ve got a great quick read.
Fabulous little novella set at Christmas! Lots of fun and sizzling scenes when a shieldmaiden clashes with a fearsome warrior! 💓 Well written as usual from this author and excellent historical writing.
This entertaining 9th century Scots and Viking short story involves a case of mistaken identity. Two fierce characters are facing a union without their input. I like the description of the time period and characters. This was a change of pace for me and a quick read.
I absolutely loved this Warrior Maid romance short story. A fun and lighthearted tale of a chance meeting between two warriors who were set to wed. Best to read this book before you start the series.
Not sure this should be considered a Christmas story but it is a good story set in Scotland around Yuletide aka Christmas. Strong characters, good short read, with intrique, sexytimes and a hea. ✌
