Hell-Bent on Blessings

Rate this book
YOU KNOW MY STYLE OF WRITING—strong heroines who don’t mess around. They roll up their sleeves and get the job done. I love the stories of women who persevere and overcome, so you can imagine how much I enjoyed writing Hell-Bent on Blessings. It releases on Feb. 14 but you can pre-order TODAY!

Harriet’s worthless husband has snatched the world out from under her feet, and then gone and died on her, to boot. First, though, he left her in deep debt and facing foreclosure on the ranch that she loves almost as much as her own children. Livid, staring at bankruptcy and fighting hopelessness, she grits her teeth and comes up with a plan. Money, gold, and jobs are abundant in the boom town of Blessings, California. She’ll start over there, taking one step at a time to rebuild a life with her children, her financial independence, and her dreams of a new ranch.

God help the man who ever gets in her way again…

Jason Meredith, an old friend, has a few things he'd like to say to Harriet, especially now that she's a widow. He might have better luck surviving a bear attack, though, than thawing her frozen heart. He's got his work cut out for him, but Jason's a patient man. At least, he used to think he was...

“Heather Blanton is blessed with a natural storytelling ability, an ‘old soul’ wisdom, and wide expansive heart. Her characters are vividly drawn, and in the western settings where life can be hard, over quickly, and seemingly without meaning, she reveals Larger Hands holding everyone and everything together.”

I write Christian Historical Western Romance. Yes, that often entails the use of firearms in a threatening manner. Sometimes there are fistfights. There may even be politically incorrect but historically accurate language. But also, there is always an inspirational message and strong allusions (at least) to the gospel.

A former journalist, I am an avid researcher and endeavor to skillfully weave truth in among fictional story lines. I love exploring the American West, especially ghost towns and museums. I have walked parts of the Oregon Trail, ridden horses through the Rockies, climbed to the top of Independence Rock, and even held an outlaw's note in my hand.

I grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina on a steady diet of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and John Wayne Westerns. My most fond childhood memory is of sitting next to my daddy, munching on popcorn, and watching Lucas McCain unload that Winchester! My daddy also taught me to shoot and, trust me, I can sew buttons on with my rifle.

I am a proud member of Western Writers of America.

My novels are all Christian Western Romance because this is the genre that lets me write about strong, pioneer women and men who struggle to find God and then live out their faith in real ways. Like good old fashioned Westerns, there is always justice, a moral message, American values, lots of high adventure, unexpected plot twists, and more than a touch of suspense. Of course, romance is always a strong element in my stories because it is such a beautiful gift from God and a perfect reflection of how he loves us: sacrificially and lavishly. My stories aren’t preachy or cheesy, but I hope they are inspirational, heart-warming, realistic, illuminating, and glorifying to God.

The Blessed Beyond Measure book was the second installment in the Brides of Blessings series, by Kari Trumbo. The Blessed Beyond Measure book was an entertaining story filled with hardship, compassion, temptation, friendship, love, and healing.

This story reflects some of the hardships and struggles the pioneers in early America were faced with, which also includes a peek at a disreputably immoral lowlife that was willing to undermine, cheat, and kill others to get what they want. . .

Against his own good judgment, he finds this frustrating woman more captivating than he ought . . .

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Left bankrupt and homeless by a worthless husband, Harriet Pullen isn't about to lay down and die.

Finding a temporary home for her children, she heads to the gold rush town of Blessings, California to start over. One carefully planned step at a time, she's going to make a home for her family, regain her financial independence, and build a new ranch--bigger and better than the one she lost. God help the man whoever gets in her way again.

Jason Meredith, an old friend, has a few things he'd like to say to Harriet, especially now that she's a widow. He might have better luck surviving a bear attack, though, than thawing her frozen heart. He's got his work cut out for him, but Jason's a patient man. At least, he used to think he was...

I had difficulty identifying with the characters in this book, mostly because their way of life was so vastly different from the one I grew up in. And it seemed short of depth and character growth. I'm always ecstatic when a book includes a good epilogue and found this one very satisfactory.

This is definitely a clean and wholesome read, is able to stand on its own, and concludes, albeit abruptly, with a much expected H.E.A.

This book is currently available through Amazon's kindle unlimited program. If you enjoy short, clean, historical romance; pick it up and give it a go!

"I'm going to kill him . . . . But he's already dead."

Harriet's good-for-nothing, drunk-all-the time husband is dead. That's a good thing and a bad thing; the good thing is that he'll never give her any trouble again, the bad thing is that he left her in a heap of trouble; three thousand dollars in debt to be exact. Determined that she will never rely on a man again, Harriet bravely leaves her children behind in Sundown, Oregon and travels to Blessings, California; hell-bent on making enough money to begin a new life for her family. Does it matter that a handsome sheriff, formerly from Sundown is already there?

Jason Meredith has put up his badge, enjoying a life free from the challenges of law enforcement, when Harriet Pullen arrives in Blessings. He's never met a more stubborn woman, but he's thankful to have a second chance at gaining her trust, nonetheless. When he and Harriet enter into a mutually beneficial business partnership, Jason could never have imagined to what lengths his heart would be trampled before Harriet transforms into a blessing.

Heather Blanton's talents are on full display with her saucy characters, inspired by actual historical figures, whose fierce independence would make many a hair curl!

This book was a hoot! I enjoyed Harriet, though she drove me crazy with her dogged determination to never need a man's help. She put herself in unnecessary danger just to prove herself capable. I enjoyed reading about Blessings, again, and seeing how the other people in the series are growing with the town. I LOVED how patient and loving and strong Jason was, and how much he truly cared for Harriet. He was a wonderful beta hero, and I love me a sweet, charming beta hero.

All in all, this romance had it all: action, adventure, heartache, victory, humor, and charm.

Another great addition to the Brides of Blessings series! Well done, Ms. Blanton!

I grew up watching westerns on TV like The Wild, Wild West and Bonanza and Gunsmoke. If you did too, you're going to enjoy Heather Blanton's books. And if you didn't - you young whippersnappers - you need to read a few and learn what good story-telling is all about! Engaging characters with their own individual strengths and flaws, classic western setting, plenty of horses (written by someone who must actually *know* horses!), and plenty of action rounds out this fun romantic romp.

I love that it is based on the life of a real person! It was fun to see the competition between her and the other guy because I didn't know what was going to happen. I loved meeting more of the people from Blessings. This one is a bit different from the others in the series so far since there is a somewhat bad guy and the already know each other.

Harriet is extremely stubborn and ambushes and that can cause some problems. I loved that she was working so hard to rebuild her life. She is haunted by the shadow of her dead husband which makes her do things without thinking. Her temper gets the best of her at times.

Jason is so loving and patient that he is the match for her. I loved him right away because he cared so much about her. He wasn't afraid to tell her what was holding her back or to be honest with her. He would take care of anyone that dared to hurt her.

I missed the bits of matchmaking in this one.

A widow, and mother of three who lost everything due to her husband's alcohol abuse, Harriet decides to move to a gold mining town in California to start a new life.

Jason, Harriet's acquaintance and the town Sheriff had already left for Blessings, California to look for gold. At least she would know somebody there.

I've got to give it to Harriet, she’s plucky and determined. She desperately wants to show the world and her family that she can make it without a man’s help. After all, her husband had been such a disappointment and destroyed everything in their life that they had worked for.

Very clean, quick book.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed that things may get you down. That you can come back, try hard and get ahead in life. Even though it winters easy. And that love can come again.

This story is loosely based on the actual woman struggling to keep her family fed and alive. The author does mention the creative license used to expand the lives of Harriet and her children. She was stubborn, strong and unyielding to suggestions once she set her mind to tasks that would keep her family together. One of my favorite characters was Charly; I loved his heart. Thanks for a great read to enjoy and recall the hardships women suffered in the wild west mid 1800’s.

Harriet will do anything to make a living for her children.

Jason Meredith gave up being the town Sheriff to move to Blessings, California. Harriet Pullen having lost everything moved to Blessings to start over. She Will do whatever it takes to provide for her family. Jason is determined to show her she can trust him. I love how this played out.

I love good clean stories of the west, especially with strong women.

I have this story five stars because it was a clean story of the early west. The main character was a strong woman who worked hard and raised her children and it had a true happy ending. I love the Brides of Blessings and especially Heather Blanton. She is one of my favorite authors.

A Tension filled adventure
An excellent read that would get me so caught up in it that: I would have to force myself to take a wee little break because it all became too real for my emotions to handle. Loved the story. Happy Reading ! !

This was a good story with a great story line. The main character, Harriet drove me crazy at times. She was so focused on the hurts that her late husband caused that she couldn’t see beyond them. In the end it all worked out. Overall it was an enjoyable read.

Letting go

Lots of action; life and death situations resulting from poor choices. If not resoved or forgiven, bitterness harbored due to past hurts can have a negative influence on future choices. Harriet is given not only a second but a THIRD chance to allow God to bless her.

I loved this book, I like westerns, the plot was good, the characters each had personalities. The era was just right and oh my, Harriet going to Blessings all by herself.

I was so thankful the sheriff was there when she arrived; Oh my! and the kitchen that she worked from was so dirty, right then I would have walked out. She was a stubborn woman and was always proving herself. Harriet was challenged to a buggey race, a challenge she could not turn down. Then during the race Charley Parkhurst showed up. I had read about Charley I liked him, I couldn't believe he was going to help her out. The entire book was so good.

An amazing story about real people in the western days. This book is based on a woman's life that lived during the Gold Rush Era. I will be reading more books by this author, Heather Blanton. I recommend this book to everyone.

Such a pretty cover. Harriet Pullen looks so feminine and pretty. And I love the title. Turns out that Harriet is one little spitfire and she is going to do things her way and keep her family together at any cost, even to herself. She is so focused on this that Jason has troubles with her. And let me say that he has his hands full. There are a lot of places I laughed out loud. This is a clean, sweet romance with each finding out what God wants them to do and be. I will be reading this again. A must read to those that love western, historical, inspirational short stories.
