We put this guide to immediate (May 2021) good use with a Route 66 road trip across a bit of Oklahoma, Kansas ( all 13 miles), the breadth of Missouri and on into Illinois. It’s a great reference for finding things to see and do as well as locating the storied Mother Road itself, which is not always easy.

It’s said you should try two relationship tests before marriage, hang a picture together, and navigate while the other drives. If you survive both of these, your marriage could last !

There are many books on the popular Route 66 available in a variety of formats. Most give general information for things to see or how to get along down the road. The EZ guide gives specific details on how to get where you want to go, down to - left turn, right turn, look for the blue rock. However detailed directions are a difficult thing to do in writing, they usually make more sense once you’ve got to where you are going…. Oh that’s what that means !

My wife’s review went something like this --- “These are the worst directions I’ve ever read!”

Like I said, written directions aren’t easy !

GPS is helpful, but should be viewed as a complementary tool, as modern technology doesn’t always handle the twists and turns of the old road,

The book is in a spiral binding, a perfect feature to allow it to stay on the page you want it to when you want it to !

If you happen to cruise through Chandler, Oklahoma, the author and long time Rt66 advocate Jerry McClanahan invites you to stop and say Hello. Hard to beat that, and he also maintains a website to keep travelers up to date on things that may have opened, closed or changed.

We hope to make it to his town one day soon, and we’ll be using the EZ Guide to get there, right Dear?

I am gradually making my way through the book as I explore Route 66. So far, I like it, although it takes some getting used to, in terms of how to use it while on the road. The book is nice because it is spiral bound and lays flat in the seat next to the driver. There are maps, east-bound directions, west-bound directions, sites to look for, and optional side trips. One page can include several of these features, so it can be a little confusing if trying to find something quickly while on the road. I eventually figured out my method, to avoid looking at the book too much while driving. Prior to the trip, I tried to highlight attractions of interest. Then, each time I stopped, I reviewed the next 3 or so attractions of interest. I found that I sometimes missed an attraction while driving, or when I spotted the attraction, I decided it was no longer of interest. So, it was good to have several attractions in mind, to avoid stopping excessively and to avoid looking at the book excessively while driving.

We have just reached Santa Monica having started 14 days ago in Chicago and this book was our bible. It was so EZ to follow, gave great tips and was witty to boot. We did go to the author’s studio but bad timing meant it was a Sunday morning so we didn’t knock. I also had a kindle book Travel Route 66 by Jim Hinckley which provided some background and history on the places we saw. I would recommend both.

Excellent turn by turn directions. Any uneasiness felt about taking this trip (going this year) have been erased by reading this.

Great information, a little hard to read at first because of the way the book is formatted. A must read if you plan to travel on Route 66.

Outstanding. The book to own for traveling (or planning to travel) Route 66. This is a must-own. The author has done his research firsthand and fills in all kinds of places to see and do. My only wish might be for him to add GPS coordinates- but part of the fun is finding sights yourself. Own this book, and get the 4th edition. And make sure you visit his store in Chandler, Oklahoma!

Nicely organized into manageable map sections. Good focus on route options and directions. Brief but reasonably thorough coverage of points of interest in a spiral bound format is perfect for road use. Seems essential for a 66 trip.
