What did Ollie Keller know? It was the question on everyone’s mind and all eyes were on the infamous producer. As the grandson of a film and theater legend and the heir to a Hollywood dynasty, he had to have known something. What did Ollie Keller do? As secretive and eccentric as he was, there had to be a scandal waiting to be exposed.
Wes Stevens was just your basic superhero, super cop, super soldier or superstar athlete. He’d played several of them in numerous box office hits. But fame and fortune never did much for Wes and he was ready for his “happily ever after”. His perfect man was kind, intelligent, humble, sensitive and generous. He’d share Wes’ passion for philanthropy and be devoted to his family. In the meantime, there was Ollie.
Author of the popular Nannies of New York and Boys of Lake Cliff book series, K Sterling has self-published dozens of books. K. is known for fast-paced romantic thrillers and touching gay romcoms. There might be goosebumps and some gore but there’s always true love and lots of laughter.
I’m a sucker for unusual characters, and Ollie was definitely unusual because of his horrible childhood. Even when he wasn’t being likeable, there was an innocent quality about him that tugged at my heart strings.
The first half of the book frustrated me because I was still so much in the dark about some of Ollie’s strangeness. As for Wes, couldn’t understand why he kept putting up with a situation that left him feeling cold afterwards. Why did it have to last as long as it did before he said something about it? Once I got over my frustration, I really started to enjoy Ollie and Wes’ story. They ended being the loving kind of couple that made this a truly pleasurable read for me.
This was a weird read for me. Ollie had a pretty tragic past, and I wanted to cry for him. However, he's really WEIRD. I'm not judging, but it was really hard to relate. Wes was really sweet, but kinda bland. There was something very disturbing about their first few sexual encounters. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Ollie has problems connecting during sex, and it leaves Wes really disjointed. He says it's the worst sex of his life, but he's afraid to talk to him about it. He really likes Ollie, and doesn't want to make sex a big deal. However, he doesn't want to actually have sex anymore with Ollie. Eventually, they work it out, but it still bothered me. The second part was a much easier read for me, and I grew to really love Ollie. He's definitely a multi-layered character, and had complex issues. I did grow to love them together. I usually love this author's work, but this wasn't an out of the park read for me. I wouldn't read it again. However, I'm glad I did.
I loved the characteristics of Wes and Ollie is such a love, my heart wept for him. This is such a beautiful story of patience, understanding and love, one of the best from K. Sterling! I think the reader requires patience getting into the story but it blossoms into a wonderful read!
The past few k. Sterling books I've attempted to read have been a miss for me. Either they are too dark, too creepy, or too improbable and hard to get thru. Luckily, they are on KU so the risk was low; but this was a nice return to why I like this author. Interesting backdrop, quirky characters that seem to actually care about each other and a romance that reveals itself and ultimately makes you happy you made the journey.
Wes and Ollie were so much fun. Their courtship was the stuff of dreams.
Ollie’s backstory was heartbreaking but with Wes’s unconditional love and support, we can see the bright and vivacious man. Sterling’s way of showing us the other side of people and giving them their person is pretty much amazing. Her sense of character always impresses me. And you can see that she has so much fun with it.
Wes is sweetheart and he is so strong even as he questions his needs and affection for Ollie.
For a good book filling with SO MANY feelings and lots of steam, this is a good one.
K. Sterling has woven a tale of glam, glitz and all that glitters. Deftly moving through a slow and steady buildup strengthening plot and building up characters and motives until bam! Ollie's naked ass is spread on the front page of the LA Chronicle and the glamazon bomb explodes! Ollie blossoms and bursts forth into the man his was meant to be. And Wes is there to love him every single step of the way. A captivating and spellbinding journey this is. Didn't want it to ever end.
I love K. Sterling but this one just didn't work for me. The first half was confusing and Ollie was SO strange I couldn't connect. The sex scenes left me cold as they did the MC's but it just went on too long before they talked it out. I did enjoy the second half more and Ollie's past was tragic and I felt for him but it was just a bit too late for me to enjoy this one.
But it didn't begin well and it was a little confusing at first. I did like the characters, Wes and Ollie. I was unhappy about not being there when Ollie met Karen. He never really had a Woman mother figure in his life and to meet Wes' Mom is a big deal.
Lots and lots of steam and sexy times, it's nice that the MCs weren't perfect and went through some painful past, it made them more real. At first glance the conflict in the story looked superficial but as I read through it unravels and becomes much deeper. Still, I liked how they were able to conquer and overcome the hangups of Ollie’s past so they can be happy. That ending and Epilogue just screams closure in a grand way. Loved that too.
I loved this book. I really didn’t like Wes in the leading man. He actually made me it not really like that book much but I loved both him and Ollie in this book. Ollie is so delightfully weird and Wes is unapologetic in his love for him which is how it should be. It was great to see Ollie come out of his shell and embrace who he is.
