Manipulation is the name of the game.

Captain Jamie Callahan is running out of time in his efforts to outsmart an enemy metahuman. His father’s presidential campaign is ramping up, and Jamie’s top secret identity as a metahuman himself is at risk of being revealed by the enemy, to say nothing of his secret relationship with Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan.

As Alpha Team’s long-running mission gets derailed in the worst way possible, Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin discovers the enemy is playing for keeps, and neither he nor Agent Sean Delaney are in any position to escape what’s in store for them.

But the other side has made one mistake that Jamie, Alexei, and Alpha Team are more than willing to exploit—you don’t mess with family unless you want to get hurt.

Greg Tremblay rocks. Eargasm galore. The story is still as good as the first time i read it.

Thanks so much my lovely Simone for this Audiobook gift.

You did so good, baby,” Jamie murmured. “I’m so proud of you. Right now, just sleep.”
Kyle drifted off with a sigh and a softly whispered, “Love you.”
“I love you, too.”

“Love you,” Alexei murmured, unable to keep the words to himself any longer.
Sean blinked in surprise, eyes snapping up from their linked hands to meet Alexei’s gaze. Those warm brown eyes searched Alexei’s face for a few seconds before Sean leaned forward and kissed him gently on the corner of his mouth.
“Ya tebya lyublyu,” Sean said.

5++++++ stars

So basically, Hailey said: Fasten your seat belts, hold onto your oxygen masks, this is is going to be one hell of a crazy, adrenaline filled action packed ride. And damn! It was.

It was X-Men, Fantastic 4 and Avengers in one book, and I devoured it. I love action and reading the action scenes in this book was amazing I got to recreate them in my head.

description

The book picks up from where book 3 ended, with the team still on their mission to get the Precog crazy Russian dude.

The writing was good and flawless as always and kept me on the edge of my seat, the world building perfect and nothing was predictable. This focused more on the mission, we still get the romance and Hot sex and i love you Hailey for that.

The book combined Jamie and Kyle, Alexei and Sean relationship and we get each of their POV. That right there is talent because the balance was so good. Hailey left me satisfied and no one was left out.

After this, i realized i love both couples equally, i can’t chose because when it comes to Jamie and Kyle in bed, we get the hot, D/S, rough sexy kind of sex. We had Dildos. Ties, cumplay and everything in between.

You should fuck me, sir,” Kyle said, tilting his head back as he swallowed. “I want it, want you, so much.”
“Fuck, I love you like this,” Jamie groaned.
“You’re always so fucking tight. Can’t get enough of you like this,” Jamie said, stroking his thumb over the hard jut of Kyle’s hip.
“Touch me, please, sir,” Kyle said, voice hitching as Jamie leaned forward. The position pushed his leg toward his chest, stretching out the muscles in his thigh.
“No,” Jamie replied as he fucked in at just the right angle to make Kyle forget how to breathe.
“You’re gonna make me come,” he moaned, tossing his head back.
“What did I say?”
“Not to come, sir.”
“Then you better obey me.”
“Yes, sir,” Kyle managed to get out,
“Good,” Jamie grunted. “Keep being good for me.”

Jamie and Kyle! Hooooooot!!!!

With Alexei and Sean we get the sensual, romantic, hot and tender sex. So they both satisfy my kink. We had a freaking Mirror!!!!!

He parted his lips, drawing Alexei in deep as they tasted each other for the first time in weeks. Sean groaned as Alexei grabbed him by the ass and hauled him close, keeping him there as they kissed.

description

“Missed you.”
“Missed you too, Senya,” Alexei rumbled.
“Can I suck you?”
“Want to fuck you.”
Alexei stepped out, tugging Sean after him.
The mirror was fogged up
“Keep watch, da?”
“Okay.”
“Good,” Alexei growled.
Alexei’s hand wrapped around his cock, giving him a firm tug. “Like this?”
Sean nodded frantically, staring at Alexei in the mirror “Yes.”
“You miss me?” Alexei asked,
“Every minute.”
Alexei swore before letting Sean go. Sean stared at their reflections in the mirror, ass twitching as Alexei pulled his fingers out. Then the fat head of his cock pressed against Sean’s hole and Sean didn’t blink as Alexei pushed in.
“Oh, fuck!” he cried out. “Lyosha!

Alexei and Sean

The romance outside the bedroom for both couple, is of an equal nature and sooooo damn! Sweet.

The relationship development between the two couple has grown immensely and i loved that.

The mission left me so heartbroken, what Alexei and Sean went though was horror to read. Damn! You Hailey that was brutal. But it hurt so good.

This series has the best side characters ever! and strong female characters, i wouldn't mind getting their stories. Please Hailey. Pretty please! I will be fine even with novellas.

If you love action, sci-fi and superhero stuff. This series is highly recommended.

4 Stars!

Don’t fear. Turner remains consistent with the high stakes drama as Alpha Team continues their dangerous game of subterfuge in order to infiltrate themselves in an international terrorist organization hell bent on creating their own metahuman army.

Be prepared for plenty of action, plenty of twists and turns, and some seriously intense and gruesome heart stopping situations as the lives of the team hang in the balance. I was legit scared and horrified with what they’re put through, but this military group of devoted, loyal, resourceful, and of course, kick ass members, pull out all the stops to save each other and the mission. Though this is mainly another entry for Jaime and Kyle, the standout stars are obviously Sean and Alexei.

This is easily fast becoming a top favorite because Turner effortlessly weaves her complex compelling storytelling with plenty of explosions and violence taking the reader through a roller coaster ride of terror and thrills while never shirking on the smexy swoony and profound feels.

I’m wrung out, but I’m ready for more!

I absolutely love this series, which is pretty surprising since I've never been a big fan of Sci Fi books before. But...Hailey made hell freeze over, and now I am hooked :P

I was a bit worried about this 4th instalment though. I am mostly blaming Hailey for this because she kept freaking me out with little bits of info...also the title is a bit worrysome ;)

Before I go any further with this review, you should know that this book can not be read as a stand alone. This is a series and it should be read in order, starting with the awesome first book "In The Wreckage"

For those of you who have been waiting for this book.....get ready and fasten your seatbelts, because it's gonna be a bumpy ride :P

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor fasten seatbelts gif

Now, even though I was a bit nervous going into this one (because Hailey is evil), I was also very very excited, because I actually love angst and suspense !! There was a time in my life, when all I read were thrillers. So torture and blood and angst don't scare me off.... That's not to say I wasn't biting my nails off :P

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor biting my nails gif

This book is about both couples, we got to know in the previous books. Jamie and Kyle and my two favorite men... Alexei and Sean <3. Of course the rest of the team is also there...no worries ;)

I think Hailey did a great job balancing the suspense and romance in this one. It was perfect for me ;) I don't want to go into the plot too much and spoiler everything, you should all go see for yourself.

What I don't mind spoilering is how hot these 4 men are. These two couples really know how to get me all HOT and Bothered !!! They both have their delicious kinks :P

Like the previous books this one also has an open ending, which is awesome because this means more books in the future !!

I highly recommend this series to everyone that loves suspense, romance, sci fi, and action. Like I've said before, it feels like a cross between "Thirds" and the "X-men".

Do you see that gleaming ray Hawkeye is creating with his bow? Yeah? That’s the ray of light I needed to get in my Metahumans mood once again and Hailey Turner achieved to shine one more time and blind me with some good stuff.
I’m not always up for superheroes stories. In fact, excluding a handful of good ones I find the superheroes movies and tv shows tremendously mediocre and the hype they create doesn’t help to my cause either. Shitty dialogues, zero charismatic protagonists and super-fast action everywhere.
So when Hailey appears with this book and achieve to keep my attention, with good dialogues and a great atmosphere, I’m sold, superhero’s mood or not. So thank you for that, dear author.

Another important thing here is that I’m not a fan of sequels about same couples. I am not. I don’t read them. I get bored so easily it’s almost unbelievable, so another huge achievement I want to praise and thank because boredom here was a galaxy far, far away.

Again:

The team itself deserves all the stars. The feel of camaraderie and family is touchable. The way they fight together and for each other is one of the most remarkable things here.

• Equally remarkable are the good dialogues and the funny moments. Because even if strong in the anxiety department the humor is great and the first appeal to me. It’s what dragged me in from the start of this series. The interactions between these men and women are something to highlight.

• IRA, Bratvas, an evil precog, Splice, politics ... all of it is still kicking our heroes butts. Solid plot and setting

What’s new:

It’s bloodier, more disturbing and edgy. There is torture, there is a lot of danger over our team’s heads and a lot of wanting (from you) to kill the bad guys and/or the lovely writer who created those psycho moves. When I thought my guys were most certainly saving the world (or the day at least) the roller coaster descended again without letting you breath in between.

Multiple POVs that in my case worked perfectly. Risky move but very well done as expected. I loved to hear from Jaime and Kyle but also be a part of Alexei and Sean. Both couple’s evolutions are fantastic and thrilling (still thrilling in book 4, yup)

It’s heavy in the military/action. I’m not complaining, though, even if I could have do it with less action just eavesdropping the alpha team’s conversations indefinitely. Am I boring? Well, maybe I wouldn’t be a blast in the field as my boys are, but what matters here is that these guys are the bomb: brave, faithful, trustworthy, kind, lovable and well... hot.
(And for the record I’m sure I would do a good job watching their backs)

Now seriously, this is probably the best book in the series. The plot development, the characters and world building are so good. I’ve said it before and I’ll do it again: this is like a screenplay. It’s very visual and very well written
So why I’m giving it 4 and not 5 stars? In this case is totally me and not the book thing and the only reason is the strong load of action it contains. The whole book is a huge mission. A fantastic one, surely, but I was a bit overwhelmed sometimes (that’s when I wasn’t hyperventilating or cursing my dear autor)

If you are a fan already you’re gonna love this installment. If you’re not yet, join us and start In the Wreckage : terrorism, military hot men and good sci-fi. That’s the only way to get into In the Blood and meet Hailey Turner’s evil twin (yes, that’s my conclusion but I don’t know which one of the twins will be writing book 5)

Totally recommended read!

I'm honestly starting to think I'm defective.

WHHHHYYYYYY CAN'T I LOVE THESE DUDES THE WAY ERRRRYONE ELSE DOES?

Granted, I am definitely #TeamSean+Alexei and I love their dynamic but I'm still not crazy about them. Jaime and Kyle have some stellar kinky bedroom antics happening (D/s, breath play, edging/orgasm denial) but still...

It's like I knew good things were happening: loads of action/adventure, people get kidnapped and tortured, familial bonds fracture quicker than they do on Christmas, the boom boom is paired nicely with the romance but still...

I just don't get what my deal is. *harrumphs* Not even Tremblay could turn my like into love.

#defectivereader

The craziest part of this whole thing is I'll probably read the next one just to find out how they get the baddies.

*facepalm*

Note to self: when the author says she was mean, she means it!

This book packed quite a punch...
Bildergebnis für explosion suicide squad gif

... not only action-wise, but also on a high emotional level which left me reeling. And here I thought I was prepared: I bought a whole truckload of chocolate, stocked up on wine (which proved not to be strong enough, so you might want to opt for a better choice), compelled my cat to cuddle-duty and even had a teddy bear at the ready, in case my cat decides to cut and run again. Not to mention the virtual voodoo doll to take my feelings out on the author and make me feel better. Nope. Not prepared. What I got was high blood pressure, a pounding heart and two nights of sleep deprivation. So I hope you will do a better job of preparation for this emotional roller coaster ride than me. ;-)

After the events of In the Shadows Alpha Team is on high alert as to a possible act of revenge the terrorists might be planning against them, but they have no other choice but to play along with their game in order to end it once and for all. This means Jamie still has to put up a front and combine both, accomplishing the mission and navigating through the shallow waters that is high politics while playing the role of the dutiful son with his secret lover Kyle at his side. Eliminating a deadly threat on a good day is already a tricky task, but outmanoeuvering someone who can foresee the future and always seems to be one step ahead is just about impossible. When the terrorists make good on their threats of revenge and the attack on two members of the team ends up in a race against time, Jamie and his team are caught in the middle between duty and love and they have to decide how far they would go to save what they consider their family and to act on their desire for retaliation.

In The Blood was a bit different compared to its predecessors in regards to centering around both relationships, the one between Jamie and Kyle and the one between Alexei and Sean and I loved to get all of their POVs this time.

Especially the second half of the book was one where you cannot read fast enough to see what will happen next, while at the same time dreading to turn every page. Aside from the thrilling aspect, which left nothing to be desired - who counts fingernails anyway? - this story was the already familiar combination of amazing characters, out of the ordinary worldbuilding, team solidarity, humor and swoonworthy moments.
Jamie gently brushed his lips over the edge of Kyle's jaw. "What do you want?"
The all-encompassing answer to that question was always you.

Some scenes just made me suffer vicariously with the boys and by that I do not only mean the ones where I stabbed into my virtual voodoo doll with sheer ferocity *side-eyes the author*, but the aftereffects of those in particular. Aaaaand we have another winner! One of the bad guys made it at one dash into the top ten on my shitlist of most hated characters.

The sex scenes -albeit not many- were of course once again true Hailey Turner fashion: hot, kinky and explicit.

"You miss me?" Alexei asked, playing Sean's body the way Sean could play his guitar - with knowing practiced hands.
Sean turned his head, nose pressing against Alexei's cheek. He swallowed thickly, rocking between the fingers in his ass and the hand stroking his cock. "Every minute."

The ending of the book made up big time for every second of suffering and even if I suppose you expect me to say more now... sorry, won't happen. This would be too much of a spoiler and the last thing I want to do is spoiling your fun, therefore it seems as if you have to find it out for yourself. ;-)

Soooo... to sum it up: I loved every single minute!

Last but not least: there is a trigger warning for this book and you should read it carefully. Oh, and as a side note: the author said that she held back on this book and plans to top it with the next one. So, bring it on, Hailey! ;-)

Story - 5+++ Stars!

Well the author's dark side certainly came out loud and clear in this installment. I'm still recovering. For someone who reads the occasional horror story, I'm okay with torture scenes, but when beloved characters are involved, it hurts!! Kyle's actions help sooth some of the pain though.

As painful as some of the scenes were in this book were, I'll admit that this series just keeps getting better. The author has a gift for delivering ACTION PACKED ROMANCE stories. You get equal parts adrenaline rush as well as swoon worthy moments. Is it no wonder this series is so addictive??!!

Holy shit, this series!!! What a wild ride it continues to be.

Diving back into the action headfirst, In the Blood picks up shortly after the events of book three, with Alpha Team still very much in the midst of their undercover ploy to bring down terrorist threats from the inside out. The last two books have largely been about the team cementing their undercover personas within the groups they’re desperately trying to bring down, but the problem now lies in the fact that their covers may or may not be blown already, due to the presence of an evil metahuman with powerful precognition abilities.

For Jamie and Kyle, tying their true personas into their undercover work has gotten complicated and fast. The lies they tell within the lies are getting hard to control, especially where their already secret romantic relationship is concerned and definitely where the safety of Jamie’s president-elect father and his family are concerned. Jamie is doing his best to keep everyone safe while doing his job for the country he loves, but he fears at some point, and probably soon, his carefully crafted ruse is going to implode, leaving devastation in its wake.

For Alexei and Sean, things are going really well. They practically live together now that their relationship is solid, and although Sean’s cover was pretty much blown in the events that took place in In the Shadows, his work is going well, with the bonus of the MDF acknowledging and consenting to Alexei and Sean’s relationship in the workplace. The problem is, a person from Sean’s past—a person who has strong ties to the very threats the team are working to bring down—holds a grudge so strong towards Sean for his psycho-perceived past sins, that Sean's personal safety and the safety of those he loves, including Alexei, are at greater risk than they could have anticipated.

This book, when it was truly in its element, was a high-octane ride of action, intrigue and high-stakes survival. There were elements of this particular instalment that had my heart beating double-time and moments that had me feeling sick to my stomach with stress, but those were still the elements of the story that made me praise it so highly.

For me, the slower stuff, or perhaps the stuff that I find myself slogging through lately, happens to be the intimate scenes between Jamie and Kyle. I decided around book two that, although I love these men as individual characters and as a romantic pairing, their specific dynamic in the bedroom, with all the D/s play and the intense kink (including pain for Kyle), just isn’t for me. And beyond that, I feel it always drags on and on, often taking me right out of my zone and slowing the otherwise fast and enthralling pace of the story often to a halt, which results in a little bit of skim-reading on my part, I can’t lie.

Where the love stories are concerned, I MUCH PREFER reading about Alexei and Sean. These two are my favourite characters without competition. I adored them both before they became a couple, but when they did my love for them only grew as they began to epically love each other back. Their scenes I do not skip. Nope. If anything, I re-read passages because I love their dialogue, their dynamic and the way they are in one another’s presence. For me, this story was their story, and holy crap did it put them both through the wringer.

The Metahuman Files is proving to be one of the strongest, most romantic M/M series I’ve read under the sci-fi/military romance genres. I honestly can’t imagine how the stakes could get any higher than they were here, but I have no doubt Turner will shock me yet… and I can’t wait!

This book! What a wild ride! Honestly, the best description for how you'll feel while reading this is like you're on a rollercoaster. You'll be up, then you'll be down, then you'll be up, then you'll be down, then you'll be screaming as you go down the big ass drop, but then breathe easier and happier once you get to the end. This book truly felt like a rollercoaster ride, but an awesome one - although frustrating at the same time.

Going into this I was a bit apprehensive because the blurb said it would be focused on both couples we've read about so far, and I was wondering if both their love stories could be written well at the same time both their stories could be woven together as well - and written well - all while not taking away from the overarching plot.

Also the blurb made it sound like Sean does something almost unforgivable to Alexei and I was scared for their relationship.

One, while there is a time in this book I was scared for Sean and Alexei's relationship, it wasn't for what I thought - that Sean would betray Alexei by "giving into the enemies demands" as it says in the blurb - but actually for something completely understandable, and it's actually Sean just blaming himself and being overly insecure. I was so relieved by that because this was NOT insurmountable. While I didn't love these two as much as Jamie and Kyle, I still really enjoy them together so seeing how their romantic and non-romantic story played out was a relief in the end.

But if you paid attention to any of my updates while reading this, one was "JFC WTF??" Because like the blurb warns, there is torture in this book and the title "In the Blood" is not too off the nose for this book. It was hard to read, and the longer the torture went on, the more frustrated I got. Not only because of how hard it was to read and see these characters experience it, but because

But I guess, in a way, doing that worked on me because I couldn't put the book down. The fast paced, action focused plot was as crazy and breathtaking (and not in the good way!) as the romance and sex was (which is the good breathtaking ;)).

The whole book had me mesmerized, and it was soooo much more than what I was expecting, romance wise and plot wise - because some things happen with our two couples that made me smile and giggle and "aww" at - and the action was somehow more than I was expecting, and the torture that does take place in this book shocked me, disturbed me, but kept my attention all the same.

Reading about these characters barely getting out of these binds they find themselves in is enthralling, and getting the type of scenes I know and love from this series is just as enthralling as well - by that I mean the sex scenes.

The sex scenes - whoo boy! There weren't a lot, but there were two realllyyy good ones - by that I mean really fucking hot! - between Jamie and Kyle and one awesome one between Alexei and Sean (and while Alexei and Sean's small kink of liking to watch each in a mirror while they fuck is hottt, I'm 'fraid they still don't quite beat Jamie and Kyle in the kinky departement.)

Jamie and Kyle together is...something else, lemme say.

description

Kyle's surprising but not unwelcome penchant for now calling Jamie "sir" in the bedroom and going full on submissive, basically, and Jamie's dominance while still being mindful of making sure Kyle was consenting was super fucking hot. The things these two get up to in the bedroom! Damn, please, keep it coming Miss Turner, because I LOVE it. *fans self some more*

Plot wise, the things with their ongoing, long-game case with the...Russian family crime business people who's name I can't remember how to spell - the bad guys with the guy who is a precog - kind of basically goes to shit in this, and with whatshisface - the bad guy from the last one whose equally evil wife Jamie killed - Declan! I think that's his name - still out there, and an old face Sean knows well popping up as well, thins get dicey, and it comes to a head at one point with literally all this shit going on at once, with the narrative jumping from one POV to the next, taking us to different places in the action.

It's wild.

Also, I can't wait for you guys to read this, because the ending!

description

All I'll say is that it made me really happy. Also, it was still an open ended ending so I see one, if not several, more books still to come in this series. Hell, maybe there will be more than several, idk. But Miss Turner has a great, interesting plot going, with lots of ways it could all go, and many ways it could keep going (kinda like THIRDS, in a way, unless Miss Turner does not intend for this series to last that long. I have no idea.)

Something else to add, I feel like Jamie's family is featured much more prominently because the primaries for the presidential election are ramping up. I would feel so stretched thin if I was Jamie (and Kyle). But yeah, basically Jamie's father pisses me off with how he handles shit in this, and while I get where he's coming from on some things (like their family name being used in the ongoing investigation...okay, well that's about all I understand about Richard Callahan lol) he just pisses me the fuck off with how he acts in this.

I wanted Jamie to shout at him several times in this and I admired Jamie's restraint most of the time and inwardly cheered the one or two times Jamie lost a little of it. Man, does Jamie deserve to go OFF on his dad, man.

But anyway, that rant over with - I just fucking loved this book. I think it is on par with the first book, if not better (i can't decide) and Turner wove these two couples together expertly and interestingly and I was never bummed that we left one character's POV for another. I was excited whether it was Jamie, Kyle's, Sean or Alexei's POV. I enjoy and love all of these characters, and with the expertly written plot woven is so good as well, it was never a dull moment.

HIGHLY recommend this for those who have kept up with the series so far - and I suggest to those who haven't to start reading this series, because I personally feel your missing out on this gem of a series.

5 very happily given stars!

8/31/2021 reread. It was as good as the first time. Loved it!!!

Wow, what a rush! From the small and sweet moments to action-packed fights this book has it all. I really enjoyed reading and living life with my favorite metahumans.

Jamie and Kyle, of course, are the best at what they do either on a mission or in their bed. I loved them together and was really sad that they still had to hide how much they loved each other from the world. Alexei and Sean on the other hand were open about their relationship and let's just say that Sean has come a long way from that unsure shy man that he used to be. It was a pleasure to see them together, how well they worked and just fit. What happened to them was just horrible and how they went through it together and came out on the other side - battered but still alive, that was amazing. Such bravery and love, so heart-felt and sincere.

The end was spectacular from all sides, from all POVs. It was masterfully crafted and thrilling. Some things were lost and some were found, everyone had worked their hardest to save and protect. In the end of the day the team survived but the cost seemed too great at the time. But the war still rages on and it will be up to them to end it. AWESOME

“The things you let me do to you,” Jamie murmured, kissing him softly on the corner of his mouth.
“Mm,” was all Kyle could manage, the noise a smug little hum passing across his lips. A thank you, a love you, that he knew Jamie would understand.
No matter the language, Jamie always knew what he wanted, what he needed.

As soon as I downloaded this on Saturday evening, I went into “can’t stop-won’t stop-don’t stop” beast reader mode and remained there until 11:02 pm on Sunday evening.

The fourth installment of Turner’s Metahuman Files was my favorite yet. Enthralling and erotic, jam-packed with the suspense and adventure and intrigue and sizzle that readers have come to lust after and love. Turner deftly juggles multiple perspectives, which isn’t an easy feat. While more action Jackson than sweet emotion, every bit of sweetness is earned. I’m a reader who admittedly prefers more romance than we get, but the series has provided a riveting ride. It’s innovative. It’s unique.

Jamie and Kyle. Mmm. No, wait. Mmm mmm MMM. It was so good to be back – and bad – with these boys. In my review for In the Ruins, I articulated a desire for more growth and depth of emotion in their relationship. Not only was that wish granted, neither the integrity of the characters nor their relationship felt compromised. Their actions and reactions rang true. And their sexy times continue to ring my bell. The “sir” was a saucy little addition! While a clandestine relationship will undoubtedly continue to pose a challenge, I was positively giddy over their movement forward.

Every reader is partial to particular couples or characters. This reader would compare Jamie and Kyle to a first love. You never forget your first. But you often fall again, and sometimes you fall harder. Case in point: Alexei and Sean.

“I think we need another shower.”
Alexei chuckled, low and amused, before moving to press a kiss to the back of Sean’s sweaty neck, his mouth a hot brand. “Should wait. Want to dirty you up again.”
The promise in his voice made Sean’s cock give a valiant little twitch. “Okay.”
As if he would ever say no to Alexei about anything.

Reading In the Shadows, I became a shameless devotee of Lyosha and his Senya. I mean, I was salivating at the measly tease in book two! Something about Alexei and Sean’s dynamic – perhaps the pull and protectiveness despite the initial antipathy – hooked me. Not to mention their “mirror, mirror” moments. 😏 Changing course, I will note that they suffer here, terribly, and I ached for them. They strive toward a fragile peace, and I want – NEED – to see it to fruition.

Alpha Team is all here and adorable. Speaking of which, how can I bribe Ms. Turner for a short story featuring Katie and Matthew? Heck, I’d be content with just a snippet! There is quite the recipe for some delicious comfort there...

I’m not ready for the series to end. No, sir 😉 Although significant plot threads are left dangling, it did feel like Turner was already laying the groundwork for a satisfying conclusion. While there are undoubtedly more obstacles to come, the book solidified my faith that they can – and will – get through anything.

This book gutted me. Well, probably bad choice of words since there is some "gutting" in here. Oh man, it is not for the faint of heart. There is a lot going on as things progress with the mission and Jamie's father's campaign. But god save me, the torture! It made me queasy and it made me cry. What Alexei and Sean suffered through was just horrible. It broke my heart for these two. I think extreme graphic violence in books is not my thing. Jamie and Kyle were a nice surprise at the end but I feel like I need a VERY fluffy bunny, rainbow farting, unicorn read right now to wash my brain out. But since I'm a glutton for punishment, off to the next novella....

Damn, I do so love how Greg narrates these stories, and my scifi-loving ass would still love to see this series on TV.

Also, it's a very, very good thing that I tend to listen to my audiobooks via earbuds because OMG the sex-scenes are entirely too hot. (Not complaining though!)

What a headrush this book is!

I didn't know what to do with myself when I was reading this book.

One minute I wanted to put it down because I couldn't bear to read anymore of what was going on, the next I was devouring it as quickly as I could to make sure that everyone was alright.

The pacing is exceptional, the plotting takes you right into the heart of the story like you're watching a newsreel and the action is unfolding around you.
It has your pulse racing and my heart was in my throat for the vast majority of this book.

It's difficult to go too much into it without giving things away but for two of Team Alpha there are huge unforseen repercussions from actions taken years ago and for another, the knowledge that the time is never right for making life altering decisions.

Hailey said there'd be swearing reading this book, I just wasn't sure quite how right she'd be but my Kindle was in danger a couple of times from my extreme reactions!

This is another brilliant addition to this series and I can't wait for more.

**2.5 stars** rounded up because the writing is great and the world-building is still fascinating.
This is not a stand-alone : all the previous books need to be read before. This is the story of a Metahuman military team, including 2 couples, Jamie/Kyle and Alexei/Sean, trying to prevent the deadly bio-terrorism attacks that only a few can survive while gaining enhanced capabilities.

I feel a little bit down by this one. All the niggles I had with the first 2 books came back magnified and like a vengeance, after I highly rated book3 :
* I find sci-fi and action entertaining, but as a support of a romance. But here, it’s mostly action. After a while, my attention was lost and I skimmed the numerous and long scenes with shootings, explosions, fights, killings, detailed and bloody torture and running.
* The plot in book2 felt far-fetched, and book4 kept on that line. “Suspend disbelief” in full mode is highly recommended. For me, it’s at the detriment of the world-building that I really enjoyed.

Of course, there was not a lot of room left for what I enjoyed the most in this series : the great camaraderie between the Alpha Team members, and most of all, the romance between my favorite couple, Alexei and Sean. Only a few scenes that were over in the blink of an eye. I would so have loved to spend more time with them and have more development on how they overcame the aftermath of their mission.

So, great writing, fast-paced action, and a bit of sex, mostly with Jamie and Kyle and mostly rough. If it’s your jam, it’s recommended. But this one was not for me.

------------
Edit : a much needed addition to this one was released and is about Sean and Alexei and how they deal with the aftermath of their ordeal : Out of the Ashes

reread 3:
Love this series as much as the first go around. But I hate what Alexei and Sean go through.

ReRead 2: 4.5 rounding up to 5 stars

still love this series so much, alexei and sean are still my favorite couple!

Reread: 4-4.5 stars

This series is one of my favorites all of the characters in this are amazing and honestly it reads like a show that I would binge over and over.

I can't believe i am almost done with it again... :(

4 stars

Loved Sean and Alexei's parts the most even though what they endured during this book was way darker and more intense than other previous books.

I can't wait to read the novella for them!

Bombs! Torture! Terrorists! And a proposal!

****3.5 Stars****It took me some time to feel invested in this fourth installment of this great series. Perhaps I’d waited too long before picking this one up. Maybe I simply wasn’t in the mood for an urban fantasy with an unstoppable villain. Out of the four books, this is my least favorite, but it was still good.

Regardless, I kept at it and soon found myself peeking up not at the political and gubernatorial machinations, but at the violent sex between Jaime and Kyle. A little breath play with a silk tie was really all I needed to get back into the story.

In this installment, we have four solid POVs and MCs: Jamie, Kyle, Alexei, and Sean. And while the sexy violent times between Jamie and Kyle warmed me up inside, it was the relationship between Alexei and Sean that Gabe me feelz.

Here we have terrorist splice attacks on home soil, as well as murder attempts on Jaime’s family and team. Who’s behind it all? Read and find out.

There’s LOTS of action here toward the end of the book.

WARNING: explicit torture scenes. REALLY EXPLICIT.

Earth - Year - 2285 This amazing paranormal, Sci-Fi series introduces us to the world in the future, where Metahumans, men and women with exceptional powers, battle evil to make the world a better place.

In the MDF, Metahuman Defense Force, their skills that they wield: anti-gravity, pyrotechnics, super strength, telekinesis, self healing and more. I love their code names and nicknames, too.

We met Apollo/Jaime, head of the MDF, his sniper and secret lover, Reaper/Kyle,

plus Alexei/Inferno, Sean/Wraith, Katie/Viper, and many more in the first books
. The team fights against the chemical weapon, Splice, and they are having fallout from their last mission.

They meet in Paris to make a deal with a Russian group. We also have Jaime's father, a high ranking Senator, campaigning for President.
Alexei and Sean are together as lovers,

and on different missions. (love Alexei's accent and pet names for Sean) World gossip hints at a domestic attack in the USA, evil enemy Cillian is on the loose. Cillian destroys Sean's apartment, and threatens more. The whole team is on the move.

People show up where they shouldn't be, and all hell breaks loose with a chemical attack in Boston, a kidnapping and brutal torture, a rescue, and recovery, gunfights, bombs, and much more. Our hearts go out to Sean and Alexei, and want them reunited.

Later, Jaime and Kyle have super hot sexy times, including BDSM, that is well done, with tender passion, and intense acts. I love their loving ways.

The ending is hopeful, but other threats are still in the air. I love this series, the special powers, the action, the hot sexy times, and the fun look at a future in the USA.

Absolutely marvelous writing by Hailey Turner, with exciting characters, and a magnificent continuing tale.
Highly recommended. ENJOY !
======
OUT OF THE ASHES, is the novella that follows this book. Has Sean recovered from the torture?
It is a "classified" tale of Sean and Alexei's next mission.

Straight-up 5 Stars!

The action & thrills picked up right from the end of the previous book and didn’t let up till the very end. I almost forgot how good Hailey Turner is with this series. Never again.

Amidst all the “baddasery” we get the further development of two vastly different couples in this series : We had Jamie&Kyle with their kink-heavy love(which was less emotional and more sex) and then we had my favourites Sean&Alexei with the heart & feels. The horrors they(Sean&Alexei) endured and how they were finding their way back to recovery further solidified their place as my favourites.

You know what? If you’re a fan of this series just read this. Don’t be like me and wait a century to get to this awesome book.

This is another action packed installment in this epic series. It was non-stop action, and I devoured every word. There were several parts that brought tears to my eyes. TBH, I had forgotten how dominant Jamie was in reference to his relationship with Kyle. Wowza, did I get reminded. There were also parts that had me cringing for these boys. My only complaint would be not enough time for the couple. There was very little relationship time for the boys. This was about 90% action, and 10% couple time. I can't wait for the next in the series! I loved it so much, I decided to reread book 1.

WOW!!!! This one was definitely the hardest one to get through...seriously there were more than a few tissues sacrificed in my efforts to get through this story. I've been fairly diligent in my efforts to avoid any kind of spoilers for this series so I have to admit I was pretty well blindsided by book #4 and just wow!!! So well done. Tears or not I really loved this one.

Ok, I'm off to dive into book #5...

Wow! That as certainly tense! Still reeling from it.
Action packed to the brim, the fight against superbaddie Stanislaw and his minions continues to put me on the edge of the seat. How on earth can you win a fight against someone who can see the future?!
Well, as Jamie says, you can't.

I do hope our beloved Metahumans team will find a way, particularly after being dragged through the hedge backwards in the most brutal way in this book. Tbh that is putting it mildly. I actually had tears in my eyes for Alexei and Sean because this part of the book is a tough, tough read. And Jamie was torn into so many directions he didn't know where to turn first.

I have no clue how on earth Jamie and his team will figure out how to beat a precog and a nullifier (ohh I hated that bit where they lost their power), but I do hope that Hailey Turner knows how!

Surprisingly I enjoyed the multiple POV, with both, Jamie and Kyle's and Alexei and Sean's, story continuing and I am really looking forward to book 4.5 where Sean and Alexei's issues after their trauma will be explored.

Love this series. (And Jamie and Kyle remain one of the hottest couple in m/m romance ever!)

I was just about done with this dragged out story and was sooo close to throwing in the towel. But then Hailey Turner upped the ante and elevated the stakes sooo much that omg, I can’t believe she went there! I have to say, it was good. Heartbreaking and brutal but good!

Now I absolutely need to finish this long drawn battle!

4 stars for the narrator. Again, Greg does a great job.

3.75 stars for the story. The story was entertaining. I still love the Alpha team and all it's members. I honestly would love to learn more about all of them. Still not a fan of Jamie's family. Absolutely hated the torture scenes with Alexei and Sean but absolutely love those two. Which is why it was a bit too much for me. Thank you Kyle for the sweet revenge you placed upon Killian💣🎇💀. Still a fan of Kyle. Still don't get his love for Jamie 🤷🏽‍♀️ Still never understood how the mission Alpha teams was sent on would ever work. It was all so convoluted to me. Glad Jamie finally pulled his team off. Looking forward to the next read and hoping for an end to mess MDF placed the Alpha team in.

OMG. THIS BOOK...... THIS WHOLE FREAKING SERIES... OMG..
Why can we only give 5 Stars.... This book deserves so much more...

Going into this one you have to have previously read and/or listened to the first three books in order to follow the story and not be completely lost as to what is happening and who all the characters are. This is not a standalone book in any way.

This was a crazy wild ride I did not want to get off of. I was on the edge of my seat. Biting my nails nervous about what was happening every step of the way and I loved every minute of it. No joke I really felt like I was put through the ringer with this book and forced to experience all the feelings whether I wanted to or not, Hailey really out-did herself with this one..

I love the entire team of Metahumans but Jamie & Kyle and Sean & Alexi are both at the top of my favorite couples list and I loved getting another look into all of their lives. But man, some parts of this book and parts of what happened when things got extreme were really hard to hear. I think this book was made so much more intense when listening to the narrator, Greg Bodreaux. He gives so much emotion and depth to each and every character that it is just enthralling and impressive to hear. All his accents and voices are on point and perfect in every part of this book. He really did an amazing job bringing this book and all the characters to life, I really felt like I was right there in the book with these characters. <- Which is exactly how you should feel. Completely pulled in and captured by the story. This was So Freaking Good, and I really don't think that could be said enough.

I have loved this series since the first book came out but kind of hit a wall with this instalment around the halfway point. I just got distracted by shinier things and put this aside for a while. Something I could never have imagined with any of the previous books.

The writing was still great, the characters still popped but the plot... the plot was not doing it for me. This whole undercover-plain-sight storyline has been taking up more and more room for a while now and it frankly confused and bored me. Add in the shenanigans with Jamie's family and I mentally checked out for a while despite the steamy smut between the two main pairings.

I should have trusted Hailey Turner because once I picked this up again things literally started exploding left and right.

Holy escalation Batman! That Alexei/Sean storyline broke my heart and was incredibly well done. I especially appreciate the extra attention to the ramifications.

Overall the second half of the book was why I fell in love with this series in the first place and I am really happy with where things left off. Now that the team can focus on getting back to their real work I'm really looking forward to more.

*My only other criticism from the last instalment still stands. I still can't keep all the members of the team apart, let alone remember their powers and code names/real names*
