Investing time to train your pet offers many rewards. As someone who has had to take a pet to dog-obedience for help training a difficult pet, I found this book reflected many of the basic tenets that the obedience trainer taught. It was easy to read and offered sound basic training tips the main one being "repeat" and "patience."

Loved the tips in this book and the different suggestions. I have an overweight dog that loves food and an underweight one that could care less about food... the fact that they called out both types and ways to work with them is really exciting and I look forward to trying some of these tips!

Practical advice for basic training

Love that this book utilizes positive based training methods, but it's a tad too generalized and basic for me. A good starting point for those who are just starting off in dog ownership, however I feel like the information would be more hard hitting if the author included the 'whys' along with suggestions, and perhaps a basic intro to learning theory and ABA. Also, there were a few spots where I felt the book could have done with a bit more proofing (couldn't help but laugh at the suggestion to close the dog into the trunk of the car while training for calmness in a vehicle... I'm sure the rear door/hatch is what was meant here lol). Overall a good book, but in my personal opinion could use more beefing up.

How long how knowledgeable the authors are with dogs! You can tell they really care about the wellbeing of each dog.

My one concern when they were talking about car training your dog is that they didn’t mention anything about warm weather and leaving your dog in the car.

However, still an amazing resource for anyone who is thinking about getting a dog!

A quick read to check if you are doing the right thing with your dog. My beagle has a “going to walk” problem. He thinks it’s not the walk- it’s pulling that he has to do, along with sniffing each and every spot on the way and not leaving any tree or stone unmarked, even the bushes don’t get spared.
So I am going to try the method given in this book to train him walk. Hope he learns!

This is a short book filled with ideas on how to train your dog. Although a lot of the tips are ones I already know, it still was good reading and could be useful for dog owners as a start to getting Fido to listen and obey before you take the last resort to send him to boarding school.

Good tips

This book has some good training tips for working with puppies or new dogs, not much for further improvement or in depth training. Definitely good for beginners or kids to assist in training.

A simple read

As a first time dog owner, I was looking for a book to assist me in my naivete concerning pets. This book is a simple read that allows me to believe I will be fine.
