In the eight years since the bombs fell and the dead rose, not once has Scratch Sullivan wanted to hang up his guns and retire from hunting THEM. But after failing to save his girlfriend Kara from a fate worse than death, he's a broken man, lost and adrift in an even more broken world.
Yet, the apocalypse is a fickle mistress, and fate has more in store for the former spec ops soldier and war vet. And as Scratch and his companions face a new and terrifying threat, he uncovers a sinister plot threatening the last remaining threads of humanity...
With nothing left to lose, Scratch heads out on one last, desperate mission—and he'll be damned if he fails the people he loves again. Even if he has to sacrifice himself for the mission, he's determined to ensure the survival of the human race.
And if Scratch has his way, he'll cause an extinction of his own making... an undead apocalypse!
M.D. Massey describes himself as the prototypical INTJ. His eclectic background provides him with a rich tapestry of experiences to draw on when crafting fiction, as evidenced by the believable worlds and relatable characters he creates.
As a former Army combat medic (91B), professional martial arts instructor (Krav Maga, JKD, FMA), and women's self-defense instructor, he possesses a unique understanding of close combat, firearms, and criminal violence that few authors can match. This knowledge provides an element of realism to the Druidverse™ novels, setting them apart from other fantasy series.
Mr. Massey lives in the Texas Hill Country with his family and a huge American bulldog that keeps him company while he writes. When he's not in his office or at the local coffee shop writing, you can find him in his garage pummeling inanimate objects or knife-fighting with his friends.
This fifth and final installment of the saga "Them" offers a nice conclusion to the series. The author manages with talent all his characters, without losing sight of the main protagonist, namely Scratch. Action, suspense, big bad guys, beautiful fight scenes. It does not have so much to do with post apocalyptic, it is above all a classic declination of urban fantasy (in a post-ap world), but it is very well done. Nothing great here, it's a good entertainment, unpretentious and relatively well written and constructed. And there is a surprising revelation about the origin of this version of the end of the world, a quite funny one!
This book continues the series tradition of a hero unfamiliar with the meaning of "plan". He's the same headstrong, gotta-save-everyone character whose idea of a plan is a rough notion based on almost no intelligence which involves him dying sacrificially.
Despite this character's flaws, I enjoyed reading his story as well as that of the other characters. The turns in the plot are pretty surprising and it ends on an upbeat note.
There is even a nod or two to characters from the "junkyard druid" series. A good book and a good series.
Rhis book did a wonderful job answering questions, and it was full of action and Scratch's sense of humor. An excellent read, that tied up stories and was the finale this character deserved! Thank you M.D. Massey for the trip into this wonderful fictional realm. It was superb and a well written series!
This was a wonderful end to this five book series. The writing was well done and let's just say it was worth the wait to get to the end our this five book sword. With each book, Massey develops his characters and his works more fully and while it's sad tho see the end, the ride had been great with anticipation mounting with each book and with each party of this final closer. I hope Massey returns to this post apocalyptic version of his world even its old Scratch"s story has ended and you will too.
At first, I was very concerned over heating that this was to be the ending of the tales of Scratch Sullivan! The character has endeared holder to my heart and I was even more concerned as to how his story would end. After finishing this read, I am happy to say that I was worried for nothing. The tale of Scratch Sullivan ends with a finish that any fan should be proud of. Bravo Mr. Massey! Bravo 👏👏👏
What a swan song. This story could’ve gone either way for our hero Scratch and I would’ve been satisfied. Scratch and the gang pick up where they left off in the third book and make their final stand against the vampiric threat.
Scratch’s story wraps up nicely, and he gets the ending a hero like him deserves.
This series was a good palette cleanser from its sister series, but I think I might be ready for some more Druid action soon.
I enjoyed this novel. It was fast paced and very exciting. It’s very interesting to readers who enjoy this particular genre. However, my only caveat is the lack of diversity I encountered in the story. As an African American reader and veteran I was disappointed a the lack of representation of people who look 👀 like me. Specifically Black people. Otherwise it was an excellent read, Hopefully the author will take this into consideration for future work
......In about a week. I just found these gems and knowing Massey's work with Colin, i figured it a safe bet. Bingo! More than a safe bet. Fast paced, furious and laugh out loud funny. I just hate it that now l have to wait for each new novel. Rest assured, I will wait. Worth it
Sorry to say goodbye to Scratch and the others, hopefully Mr Massey will have something new for us soon. I will miss this series but zombie apocalypses cannot last forever, not with the likes of Scratch, Colin and their crews.
I just finished reading the entire series and really enjoyed all of your books and was really bummed when I got to the end , I was hoping for more .Awesome twists to a zombie/post apocalyptic series. Thank you...
A nice wrap up of the Scratch Sullivan series. Plenty of vampires, zombies, shifters and other creatures of the night. Thanks again for yet another great novel MD. I read this series after being floored by the Junkyard Druid series
Yet another fantastic book by Mr Massey. Seriously top notch. How this man weaves stories of such quality is a mystery to me. I just hope he keeps doing it.
I have to apologize for those who gave less than five stars, they suffer from the Corona virus with loss of taste! This book deserves ten stars. Absolutely amazing!
