Disappointed and flabbergasted - spoiler alert

There are two parts to this book.

Part 1 is like a prequel to the actual story, which is part 2. In fact, I think it’s longer than Part 2. In Part 1, the MFC and the guys are all children and very close. Part 1 shows this closeness and how the curse came to be, the plot of Part 2. Part 1 was okay and needs some more character and world building. I would give it 3 Stars - if it was by itself.

Part 2 starts ten years after part 1 ends. Part 2 does not not discuss why the MFC and the guys are no longer close friends. Instead, it goes right into an abrupt shift of the plot line.

SPOILER ALERT

Except, one of the guys the MFC is supposed to be with is married? Then, knowing this, she sleeps with him anyway? Then, one of the other guys is straight with her and states “I’ll marry you to make it legal but I’ll cheat because you won’t be enough for me. Except, that would hurt you and I don’t want to, so sleep with my married brother instead and be his mistress despite staying you refuse to do that.” Yet, she goes down on that brother and sleeps with the married brother. WHAT? Just no.

The book ends abruptly. The brothers discuss what happened and that’s it. Literally, about twenty pages after she sleeps with him, the book ends. What? Why?

No character substance. No romance. Just flat. This review is harsh but I’m flabbergasted by why the author wrote her characters and romance this way. It had so much potential! SMH.

So I read the original version of this book, "Four Corners", before it was expanded and republished as "Four Princes". I originally gave this book 4.8 stars rounded up to 5. I reread this book in order to know what was going on before I read the sequel.

I still liked it, though for half the book (there are two parts) Mariselle is 8 years. Part 1 is a long prologue of how the curse came to be. Even though there's no romance in the first half of the book, I still found it to be interesting.

The curse is infertility for all the maidens of Syracuse, except for Mariselle. Mariselle is exempted because she was kind to the witch Angelique who curse Syracuse. The Rothhaven royals will die out unless they can have a child with Mariselle. However, she can't just get pregnant from the king; it needs to be him and his 3 brothers, the 4 princes in total.

On to the next book!

I enjoyed this first book of the trilogy however, I have issue with a few things. First, the female main character was either not born or was 8 years old for almost 60% of the book. Second, during this previously mentioned 60% or so, the princes and female lead were in maybe 5 scenes total. I don't have a problem with back story being told, especially when there is world building that needs to happen. But I do think it might have been better to sum it all up in a prologue and perhaps write it in its extended form as a .5 book/prequel. Just so that the books focus is on the main 5. Which brings me to my final gripe. 2 of the 4 brothers we have only met in passing by the end of the book, and its when they were children. The 2 remaining brothers did get interactions with Mariselle towards the end however it felt more like a love triangle than RH.

Now for the good stuff! As I said, I like the book. I can see where the story is going to end up based on the curse, and am very excited for it. Even though I felt the back story didn't really belong in this book in all its extended glory, I did like reading it. And the characters that we have met are well developed and I like them as well. The writing is good and the pace moves right along. I am immediately jumping in to book 2 to see how everything plays out!

I really wanted to like this story, but I couldn't get past the errors that are still in this story.
I also felt like it didn't live up to the "reverse harem" trope. I'm sure some will love this series, but not for me.

I was trying to get a short book finished for the end of the year and decided to give this a shot. This is book 1 in the Rothhaven Triology. This was basically an introduction to the story they were kids for about 80% of the book so if your look for a erotic tale it doesn’t get there for awhile.

Sadly disappointing. The story could have been good; the plot had merit and it sounded interesting enough that I thought it would be worth the read.
However, there was almost zero character development making the agonizing amount of backstory pointless. The authors spend so much time building the backstory, which should have been summarized in a prologue at best, that the actual plot occurs in the last 30 percent of an already short book. There are even two of the "main characters" that don't even appear as adults in this book except in one scene. Then the cliffhanger is basically a point where the author just stops writing. You think you are at the end of a chapter, but its the end of the book.....no build up, no climax, no anticipation. The book is just done with hope that you will buy the next one.
Everything about this book falls flat and I spent more time wondering what happened to the dang cats (that the author spent way too much time discussing for them to just disappear from the storyline completely) than I cared about what was happening with the characters.

Ok (possible spoiler)

I will start by saying that I don't enjoy narrated stories. This story is narrated. There are conversations between characters, but the narrator comes back to fill in the story and lead to the next scene.

Right now none of the characters are interesting to me. I don't know if it's because I don't like narrated stories and it's skewing my perspective. But I feel nothing for any of the characters. Right now I don't care what happens. I definitely don't like that right now the plot seems to be that a curse needs to be broken. The curse being no children allowed until Mariselle is with all 4 princes. While it's a valid way for Mariselle's harem to form, I don't like stories about women having to get pregnant, especially so young.
So, right now I'm not impressed. I'm going to try reading book 2, but this may be one series that isn't for me. There's nothing wrong with the writing per say, but I'm not enjoying the writing style.

A Great Read!!!

I enjoyed reading Four Princes(The Rothhaven Trilogy Book 1)!!! All about Mariselle a young eighteen year old girl, who is the Sheriffs daughter. The entire kingdom was cursed when King Edward banished his mistress for being a witch. She was not a witch prior, but when she was banished she went to work for the head witch Hedcat. During her indentured service she was turned into a witch, and upon serving her twenty years was given a powerful wand. So she cursed the kingdom, no more heirs, all women would remain barren for the rest of there lives. Seems Hedcat reversed the spell just for Mariselle, so a heir could be produced by the kings four sons. Read about Mariselle & the four kings, see if indeed the spell has been broken!! Lots of emotion running throughout this entire book!!! It’s a definite read!!! I can’t wait to read book 2!!

I really enjoyed this story. I don’t want to have to wait for the next two books. I need them now.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story! I really can’t wait to see what happens next. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a hard road for a couple of the characters. Mariselle is a great leading female. I really enjoyed her. I wish we could have gotten more of Mathias and Zackary in this book. I can’t wait to learn more about them.

I really, really liked Griffin. As of right now he’s my favorite. He’s got a tough road ahead of him though.

Alexander is your typical man who likes variety in women. I’m not sure how he’s going to settle down anytime soon.

I can’t wait to see how this series ends. This is a great start to this trilogy and it’s a must read in my opinion!!!

Not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised! You could say I was in a bit of a reading slump with no stories really ‘getting’ me ya know?
But this one was so interesting! I hadn’t read the blurb. I had just seen on a post that this reverse harem book was for free and so, you best believe my fingers moved fast as lightening to click and download it. 😂 At first I was like..wth! Ed & Anne we’re broken apart so what was happening?!?! But then it mentioned a little girl who had four kittens and couldn’t choose one. I knew right then that the story was really JUST beginning. I booted that we got to see their childhood and all that. And I really liked Marielle’s spirit! Just shows how being kind will really help you in the long run!

I had not really wanted to read another reverse harem until this author came along with the story that picked at my curiosity in this one. Imagine women barren boy oh boy trouble would be coming. The Rothhaven family is the one in trouble but soon events will change things. Imagine being the one different female that will all of a sudden bring light to bleak. This will also not go done the familiar road most would thing it goes down its own that this author had created with us holding on to see the yummy results. Captivating is what happens being caught up in the drama and other elements you also get to the last page looking for book 2.

A Magnificent Story!!!!!!

I must say this was excellently written. The characters are stunningly developed and have personalities that felt throughout the story. The evil characters are most certainly evil and it is felt while reading the story. The drama and suspense of the scenes are dramatic as you can just feel it. My only complaint is that it ended so quickly. I was really getting into the story and couldn’t wait to see what happened next and it became a cliffhanger. But, I am excited to read the next one in the series. It is most definitely a fantastic story that is a must read.

Almost 60% of the story is backstory, and then it jumps to 8 years later. Granted, it was a great backstory. But it was better suited to a prequel of the series rather as being the majority of the first book. I almost stopped reading the book because I was so tired of waiting for it to get to the current storyline.

The actual story involving Mariselle and the four princes is so brief, that as a reader I couldn’t really get a feel for the characters. Honestly, I cared more about what was happening with Angelique and Edward rather than anyone else because they encompassed most of the book.

Okay, so a lot of us wonder what it might be like with a couple of men, but FOUR? Whew, the premise is new-ish, in that a hex is cast because one woman is lied about and exiled only to become that which she was accused of being (a witch) and one poor unwary, innocent girl and four sons - who had nothing to do with the wrongdoing - bear the brunt. I won't give away too much, but let's just say that these four princes and one beautiful young woman will either break the hex or the boys' family's reign will end. CAUTION: It end in one HELL of a cliffie, which I love.

Awesome!

I really enjoyed this book especially the backstory before the present day shenanigans. I did feel bad for Angelique and feel she got shafted despite how she was treated by everyone. And where is that Wizard today? Hoping the other two brothers aren’t such dogs towards Marieselle either. I hope she know how they are speaking of her like cattle and pulls one over on them. Great story though!

Not for me

The backstory seemed to take forever. When we finally get to the actual story, we find, at least the two brothers we encounter, are such @sses, that it's impossible to actually enjoy the story. On top of that, the connection, the heat wasn't there. I'm reading about someone who is supposedly having certain emotions and feelings, but none of it came across to the reader. I won't be continuing the series.

I love all of CJ Pinards books and this one that she wrote with Cassie Alexandra is just as much loved.

I loved getting to know Mariselle as a young child and her connections to the royal family and to Angelique.

As I got to the 8 years later I adore the slight Romeo and Juliet thing going on with her and Griffin hoping that it has a better outcome than R&J had. I couldn't put it down and now u cant wait to get into the next book.

This isn’t my usual genre and is my first RH book. But I was hooked early on - reading is my escape from reality and what’s better than escaping with princes, witches and wizards! It was also the right amount of naughtyness! My only criticism is that it was over too quickly and now I need more! Bring on the next one....

Such a good read!

With an original plot, hot as sin characters, and undeniable chemistry this book quickly became one of my favorites! I love how the harem feels fated to happen and it is never awkward or feels forced. I loved this one and I’m sure I’ll love the second and third books as well!

Four princes, a witch, a warlock, a young maiden, and an evil curse make this one tale you won't be able to put down. As usual, I enjoyed CJ's and Cassie's excellent ability to paint a vivid picture in my mind as I read about young Mariselle and her princely adventures. I can't wait to devour the next installment!

A king's evil advisor once convinced him to betray his lover. She then becomes a witch and curses the kingdom and royal family. Oh but she met a nice little girl so she decided that to break the curse that little girl would have to have sex with all four of the princes...

This just had zero flow, and was not very compelling.

Interesting

Wow this book did not go the way I expected. The first half is kinda like the prologue for the story that's described in the blurb. Albeit, a very interesting back story, but it meant the actually story didn't get very far before the book ended. I guess I'll go hunt down the Next book, because I definitely want to read it. Very interesting!!

Revenge in the form of a curse.

I love the tale that was spun to set this reverse harem in place. A wizard, a scorned love banished then turned witch. The witch wants revenge on those who wronged her. A king who is fooled, a queen who is jealous and spiteful brings a curse on an entire kingdom. The only thing I did not like was the cliffhanger.

Simple

Very simple writing without much (if any) complexity. Point of view changes from one paragraph to the next and with very limited details. The story line itself has a lot of promise, but you really don’t get a feel for any of the characters and solutions to conflicts just fall into place with no effort.

Slow burn with a long backstory

The first half of this book is basically all backstory. I'm sure it will help the rest of the trilogy, but not so much for the first book. The last third of the book is where things begin to get moving for both the plot and the mild to medium spice. Still, worth continuing the series though!

Well this had a lot of potential with a good first section which set up the plot, although the curse element is a bit difficult to understand as it would have been easier to set out another way but the story would have been spoilt! Second half was quick and the princes seem awful UF attractive. Our poor FMC. Regardless I am going to read the next book to see what happens next.

I can't wait for part 2. It will be interesting how Hecate will make it all work out. It's kind of strange being that Mariselle is so hormonal then I remember well she's experiencing her period for the first time ever and well thanks to Hecate as well.

Weeeeelllllll

It was okay you read like a series book 1. Left in a Cliff Hanger and nothing is really resolved. I just know that I have to get the other books to see what happens to the story this is like part 1 of 1 book.
