A stunned silence, broken only by the ripples pulsing gently against the side of the swimming pool.
The child lay motionless in the inflatable ring, head at an angle oh so unnatural, adults exploding into action both in and outside the pool.
Life crawling through slow motion, the man put his hands over his face; say it was not so, how had it happened? What twist of fate had life just taken? How could everything change completely in a matter of seconds?
Memories took him on a journey back to his childhood, seeing himself as a young child, dropping a favoured plastic tractor, seeing cracks stress and open, the plastic twisted and shattered, wishing and screaming to be able to wind back time, no more than he wished he could take back the last five minutes.
One of the adults carried out his daughter, body flopping listlessly, he turned slowly; his wife being restrained, screaming, her face exhibited a venom and hatred that their first fifteen years of marriage had never before seen.
Their child was dead; he had killed their child.

The story begins with the daughter of Professor David Westle being accidentally killed in a swimming pool incident whilst on holiday in America.
Professor Westle is a key figure in the development of nuclear fusion, and the opportunity is taken to show Westle as being un-American, acting against America’s interests in terms of oil and seen as a threat to fossil fuel companies.
Farad and Ali Baral from Saudi Aramco uncover the findings that the world has markedly overestimated the amount of oil left, and start to buy up reserves of oil sands and shale gas in America, with a view to developing fracking on a massive scale.
The Arab world becomes increasingly politically unstable with the vastly reduced available oil and gas resources, played out between Saudi Arabia and America.
Martin Laceter is a recently graduated student who follows physics and light into photography; Laceter, along with others monitoring the American Rockies, notices a change in behaviour of animals, hot springs boiling, sparks concern regarding shale gas going critical. The scientific community confirm the findings are correct, with no obvious solution.
There is American and Arab disquiet about a way forward. A decision is taken to employ the scientific community to find a way forward, again with no obvious, ready-made solution as the impact of the heat energy increases tectonic activity across western America.

I enjoy reading as a means to take you off and away on a telepathic ride with the author, to share the world that they have created and the highs and lows for how those within the story presented ride out the challenges, drive the plot being unveiled.
I took my first steps in scripting short stories over a decade ago now, the genres I favour are fantasy, fast-paced adventure, science fiction and fiction underpinned by modern science.
My enjoyment of writing stems from hearing my characters share their voices, thoughts, hopes and aspirations as they interact with and impact upon the world they inhabit.

The complexity of the plot is woven beautifully with such an understanding of emotions. Characters leap out at you and make you want to scream at some and offer comfort to others. Again with James another thrilling beautifully written tale with outcomes you wouldn’t foresee. Please read this it’s simply high class.
