IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT, STAY THE HELL OFF THE STAGE.
Twenty years ago, four high school students came together to form what became one of the most successful R&B girl groups of their time. F.I.R.E. was as hot as their name, known for their natural sex appeal and sometimes risqué music. The bad girl, the golden child, the chubby, lovable one, and the pretty tomboy grew up in front of the world; and as they navigated the road to fame, they lost themselves amid the limelight.
Inflated egos, creative differences, personality conflicts, and addiction created discord among the ladies; but lead singer Shai’s decision to go solo ultimately ended the group’s eleven-year run. Though Shai never missed a beat, Paris, KiKi, and Reign were left to remix their careers.
Now in their mid-thirties, an unexpected and widely publicized reunion brings the ladies of F.I.R.E. to the table to consider making one last album together. With animosity and damaging secrets still looming over them, will they be able to move forward without clearing the air or will they each spill the tea they brought along with them?
Portia A. Cosby is a novelist, poet, and screenwriter whose writing has left an impact on everyone who has come across it. Her distinct style separates her from most as she addresses controversial issues and relates them to the African-American community.
"My messages are universal. I don't write to exclude any age group or race. I just write from the heart and expose topics that (African-Americans) normally don't associate with ourselves."
With familiar characters and drama packed storylines, her down-to-earth approach has proved to be reader-friendly and well received. She first obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology/Athletic Training from Indiana University. After revisiting an old screenplay that she wrote in the ninth grade, she decided to fully embrace her passion for writing and turned Too Little, Too Late into a novel. Not abandoning the movie idea, she attended Full Sail Real World Education in Winter Park, Florida to learn the ins and outs of the film industry so that she can one day make her vision come to life. She earned an Associate of Science degree in Film and Video Production. "Ideally and eventually, I would like to leave the sports medicine world and write full-time. I have so many stories to share and can't wait to devote all of my time to writing novels and screenplays."
A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Portia divides her time between the metro areas of Pittsburgh and Atlanta. She is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and enjoys playing with her daughter, watching movies, and listening to music in her spare time. She proudly holds a spot on Terry McMillan's list of Writers Worth Reading, and is currently working on her fifth novel.
F.I.R.E. Was a good little appetizer and glimpse into the lives of the R&B group. These lady have a lot to overcome before they reignite their singing group. I look forward to the up and coming novel .
Shai, Kiki, Reign, and Paris were a part of the famous R&B group, F.I.R.E. They formed the group while in high school and became one of the most successful R&B groups on the music scene. But as we know from the history of R&B groups of the past - there's always drama brewing in the background.
The group ended up going their separate ways. As fate would have it the group has an opportunity to reignite the fire they once had. (Pun intended) Will these friends be able to put their egos aside to launch a successful comeback?
F.I.R.E. Reignited lives up to its name. This book was able to reignite my reading juices. I'm convinced of a few things about Author Portia A. Cosby - she has worked behind the scenes with a few R&B groups, has the inside scoop on the R&B scene, or was a former R&B singer.
Ok... Maybe none of those things are true but the way this author was able to weave this story together effortlessly made my head spin. The author delivers a great story that will have readers desiring more. The stage has been set and I can't wait to see how everything plays out.
One thing I can say with confidence is that Author Portia A. Cosby is an author that you need to know.
I love how this author gave us a glimpse instead the life of each member of F.I.R.E.. Paris, Shai. KiKi and Reign actually brought back memories , of some of my old friendships .There were scenes when I laughed , felt angry and I also cried . Effective communication is essential in any relationship . My favorite quote was - ‘Life is too short to wait for the perfect time…’” “‘… and too long to say you don’t have time,
A short and entertaining read that did not disappoint. F.I.R.E was an R&B girls group reminiscent of the groups I loved from the 90’s like Xscape, which their reunion story reminded me of. I look forward to reading more about these ladies, especially Reign who was my favorite group member. I’d love to see her journey after the pain.
Portia never disappoints! This novella has me craving more just like her previous works there are twist turns and curve balls that leave us craving more. 2018 is here now we need the novel. Congratulations on a captivating prelude that has me guessing 2018 when?!
Kiki, Reign, Shai and Paris make up the singing group FIRE. Drama, Egos and bad choices broke the group up ...... will tragedy bring them back together? This was a teaser.... I can’t wait for more and to see fire back together again! Good, quick read.
