Building winning strategy doesn’t need to be complicated. Think Beyond Value provides a simple, memorable framework to help readers think beyond the value proposition to form sound business and personal strategy. Dr. David Flint’s simple framework is thorough yet practical, and quickly focuses strategic thinking on the issues of most concern to a particular situation. Think Beyond Value uses easy-to-remember terms that resonate with seasoned strategists, while also opening the world of critical thinking to those new to the process. Whether business or personal, the V-REEL framework guides strategic thinking for anyone seeking a clear plan forward.
A friend gave me this book a couple of years ago and I got around to reading it during our stay-at-home venture. It’s good. I recommend it for anyone trying to run a business or any organization, but truly I can’t imagine it not being applicable to literally everyone if the reader is willing to think beyond the examples provided to their own situation. For me, I read it through the lens of a higher education institution, a religious organization (my church) and even the relationships I have with friends and family. The framework is applicable to all of these settings. In the book Flint walks you through his framework for keeping your organization fresh and at the forefront of where you want to be (strategic management). The framework (V-REEL) focuses on the unique Value you have, its Rareness, Eroding factors, Enabling factors, and Longevity. You can see how those qualities apply to essentially everything. It’s well written and interesting, and provides good food for thought
I'm not a business-minded person, but I thought this book was written in a way that anyone (even me) can pick it up and understand the concepts from start to finish. What I liked most is that there weren't a lot of technical business-terms, but everything was spelled out - and it included a glossary in the back!! David Flint presents his V-REEL strategy to help anyone flesh out their ideas - whether that is a business idea, new strategy, improvement, new job, or even college major. It also includes resources to help take your idea to the next level, or even to help you decide when to walk away.
This is a great book to help you think through your business or personal strategy. It's not overcomplicated but provides just enough depth to get you thinking. It's also a quick read so not a huge commitment before settling in to the planning process. As an entrepreneur, I highly recommend.
