First shared on Reddit’s Tales from Tech Support, this is the tale of Selben’s first job in IT support, and the superhero mentor he was lucky enough to have. Through calming irate customers, to internet outages, and even handling a haunted office, Selben and Soda tackle it all.
Thirteen short stories have been collected and edited for your enjoyment, including two never before shared anywhere! If you've ever done any sort of customer service, you'll get a kick out of these stories.
And remember, if you need to distract an angry customer while you fix their computer, just talk about food!
I never had to work in IT for a company, and for that I am supremely grateful. However, I've done enough troubleshooting for my family and friends to know that just when you think a system is idiot proof, along comes a better idiot. This book is pretty much proof of that. Selben is a bright eyed, innocent newbie who is just waiting to have the optimism shaken right out of him. Soda, his new mentor, does just that, but also makes him a better tech. I think my favorite short story in the collection is “The Haunted Office” where Selben and Soda have to uncover who the ghost really is. I won't give it away, but I will give you a hint: anyone who call himself a religious role when he's not, just might be the culprit.
