There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repents. (Luke 15:10)
Is there any occupation as profitable or rewarding as that of winning souls for Christ? It is a desirable employment, and the threshold for entry into this profession is set at a level any Christian may achieve – you must only love the Lord God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and your fellow man as yourself. This work is for all genuine Christians, of all walks of life. This is for you, fellow Christian.
Be prepared to be inspired, challenged, and convicted. Be prepared to weep, for the Holy Spirit may touch you deeply as you consider your coworkers, your neighbors, the children you know, and how much the Lord cares for these individuals. But you will also be equipped. Charles Spurgeon knew something about winning souls, and he holds nothing back as he shares biblical wisdom and practical application regarding the incredible work the Lord wants to do through His people to reach the lost.
About the Author Charles Haddon (C. H.) Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British Baptist preacher. He started preaching at age 17 and quickly became famous. He is still known as the “Prince of Preachers” and frequently had more than 10,000 people present to hear him preach at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. His sermons were printed in newspapers, translated into many languages, and published in many books.
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was England's best-known preacher for most of the second half of the nineteenth century. In 1854, just four years after his conversion, Spurgeon, then only 20, became pastor of London's famed New Park Street Church (formerly pastored by the famous Baptist theologian, John Gill). The congregation quickly outgrew their building, moved to Exeter Hall, then to Surrey Music Hall. In these venues, Spurgeon frequently preached to audiences numbering more than 10,000—all in the days before electronic amplification. In 1861, the congregation moved permanently to the newly constructed Metropolitan Tabernacle.
Personally, this is not my type of book. So I didn't love it. However, the book itself is great! There were definitely things I learned and things that were encouraging and convicting. If you need som encouragement to be faithful in sharing the gospel, Spurgeon does a great job at that!
What a sweet treasure! This book is perfect for non-preaching Christians. A preacher is blessed with an opportunity to preach the gospel and disciple every week from the pulpit and throughout the week to his flock. Spurgeon encourages the mothers, the Sunday school teachers, the believers that don't think they make an impact to keep focused on sharing Christ. I loved near the end when he spoke to parents saying "do you, father, put your arms around your son's neck in an embrace and pray for and with him?" It made me picture big burly Spurgeon with his twin boys not holding back affection and tenderly showing them the way of Christ.
This book is wonderful, and full of many great things to meditate on. How does one live as a Christian, fulfill our purpose in the body of Christ? From calling backsliders back, to being a parent, to being a minister, to being laity. If you read nothing else from this book though, I think chapter 2 itself is worth reading by any and all Christians.

They don’t call him the Prince of Preachers for nothing. Grace on every page but he also calls the reader to care for the lost and Jesus so much more, regardless of where they’re at currently. Would recommend to anyone.
This book is timeless because Mr. Spurgeon draws his writings from the well of the living water, namely, the Spirit-inspired written Word of God. His blood, like what he said about John Bunyan, is Bibline (he made up this word). He said of Bunyan that can be applied to himself: "Prick him anywhere —his blood is Bibline, the very essence of the Bible flows from him. He cannot speak without quoting a text, for his very soul is full of the Word of God" :)
While there are some very good chapters in here, they are often hard to get to through the verbiage. Sturgeon was no doubt a great preacher, but he was a wordy, repetitive author.
As a Sunday school teacher, I found this book very encouraging. Spurgeon, in his usual way, combines encouragement with exhortation. His statements about the importance of evangelism are a rebuke and a challenge to complacent people like me. I highlighted many portions of this text and will return to it again.
*3.5*. Had some good words. Some might even say it was like counseling. Good recommendation Ridge. I like books like these, but sometimes the chapters with the best points could easily be made into full books on the subject. So sometimes I was left wanting more. However, super convicting and made me realize some aspects of my life that I overlook.
I love Spurgeon's writing. In this short work on counsels for Christian workers he addresses particular challenges, temptations, and blindspots that Christian workers face and brings clarity, conviction, and encouragement.
A great read for anyone, but particularly those in full-time ministry.
Charles Spurgeon was a prolific Christian writer. Having read a couple of his books, I decided to try this one. He gives good, practice advice that is timeless.
This book opened my eyes to why I must do my work in earnerst because there is value in all of it, however small and mundane it might seem. It is for the Master, Jesus. It is my pleasure as one who has been shown the mercy of salvation
