ഭാഷയുടെ ഒഴുക്കാണ് തോറ്റങ്ങൾ. അതിശക്തമായ ഒഴുക്ക്. അറുപത്തെട്ടുകാരിയമ്മയുടെ ഭ്രമകല്പനകൾ പോലെ, പ്രളയം പോലെ...
നിലയില്ലാത്ത വെള്ളത്തിൽ, തൊണ്ണൂറ്റൊമ്പതിൽ, വെള്ളപ്പൊക്കത്തിൽ, കന്നിപ്രസവത്തിന് തോണിയേറി തോറ്റം കേട്ട് ജന്മഗേഹത്തിലേയ്ക്ക് യാത്രയായ ഉണ്ണിമോളാണ്, അച്ഛൻ്റെ "കൊഞ്ചിക്കുട്ടി"യാണ്, ആമ്പല് തേടി നടന്നവളാണ് ഭൂതകാലത്തിൽ അമ്മ. അവർക്ക് മുന്നിൽ കാലം മാറി, കഥ മാറി, ഭൂമി മാത്രം " കാലാകാലങ്ങളിലും യൗവനത്തോടെ സുഫലയായി, സുമംഗലിയായി, സുന്ദരിയായി... " ഓടപ്പഴം മോഹിച്ച്, അഞ്ജനക്കല്ലിനെ വരിച്ചയമ്മ. അമ്മ നരച്ചു. തണ്ടെല്ലു താണു. എങ്കിലും "കുളിർത്ത മനസ്സിൽ തളിരുകളിൽ പൂവിരിഞ്ഞു. കായായി, പഴമായി, ഓടപ്പഴമായി..." അമ്മ മക്കൾ ഓടപ്പഴത്തെ വരിക്കുന്നത് സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു. എന്നിട്ടോ, മുറുക്കാനിടിക്കുന്ന ചെമ്പുലക്ക തലയിലിടിച്ചു മരിച്ചു. മരണപ്പായിലമ്മ, "ചെറുതായിച്ചെറുതായി, കന്യകയായി, ഇളം പൈതലായി, പുഴവക്കത്തൂടെ നടന്നു..."

Picking up a book in my mother tongue after almost 12 years and I wasn't disappointed. Like O V Vijayan, Kovilan's weaves a world and a mood with his words thats hard to forget. A story that moves between the past and the present and tells more than the story of just a person but rather describes a way of life of a people and a society, of women, of the breakdown of a class and caste system; the book has so many layers. And, it managed to convey all this in a span of some 80 odd pages.

Definitely a book I'll discover more layers to if I read it again. Highly recommended for the lyrical beauty of the language and the haunting prose.

എന്നെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം ഈ പുസ്തകം വായിക്കാനും അത് മനസിലാക്കി എടുക്കാനും കുറച്ചു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ട് തോന്നി.
ഒഴുക്കുള്ള വായനാനുഭവം ആയിരുന്നില്ല എനിക്ക് ലഭിച്ചത്.
