Death & Dust

Rate this book
Emily and Jai's final book.

Jai Stone...

I met him in the shadows first. He was tall and broad-shouldered, a man full of heat, passion, and unconditional love meant only for me.

He was my perfect counterpart, my best friend, and the only spark of light in an otherwise cold, dark hell.

But it was never meant to be.

Together, we fought hard in a war that sought only to destroy us and the casualties are worse than I ever imagined.

Because of Skull...
I lost the closest thing I had to family.

Because of Skull...
I'll never get the chance to atone for my mistakes.

Because of Skull...
I was no longer Jai's kitten.

Before I get into my review of Death & Dust I need to really point out the importance of reading the previous books in the New York Crime Kings series, this cannot be read as a standalone and if you try you will be lost and not able to enjoy it like you would if you had. I think that point needs to be repeated because I know some stubborn people don’t want to listen but seriously you HAVE to read the previous books before starting Death & Dust.

Okay moving forward and because I don’t want to spoil this book or any of the previous books I am keeping this short and to the point. I loved some books more than others in this series but building up to Death & Dust was so worth the cussing and possible kindle throwing moments I may or may not have had. There is suspense, there is this feeling of your stomach being in knots waiting for things to happen. There is darkness, there is an air of violence and this book whore was hooked.

I wish I would have found this series before now because I really could read more if the opportunity came up. Death & Dust was the perfect way to end this series and that is the best and simplest way I can put it without giving anything away.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Death & Dust is the final book in Skyla Madi's New York Crime Kings Series. You really need to have read the first six books to read Death & Dust.

I met Jai Stone in the shadow's first. He as tall and broad-shouldered, a man full of heat, passion, and unconditional love meant only from me. He was my perfect counterpart, my best friend, and the only spark of light in an otherwise cold, dark hell. But it was never meant to be. Together, we fought hard in a war that sought only to destroy us and the casualties are worse than I ever imagined. Because of Skull......I lost the closest thing I had to family. Because of Skull.....I'll never get the chance to atone for my mistakes. Because of Skull......I was no longer Jai's kitten.

If you have read all the previous books you know that book six ended in a huge cliffhanger. Death & Dust stars right where that book ended. And when I say start I mean you better hold on to everything you have. This book is filled with a lot of twists and turns that you are going to love riding out. There will be secrets revealed and most of all you will be reading this book as fast as you can. I loved the starting of a new life in Italy and the way the family wasn't just existing anymore but starting to live and love and trust. But you know there is always danger around every corner. This is a story of survival and endurance. It is a story that you do not want to miss.

If you haven't started this series yet, I can promise you that you are missing some amazingly good books. If you are on this final book your going to be so happy with this book but also sad as I always am to see a series your loving come to an end.

OMG! The final book's here! I can’t believe it ends now. My journey of this series began in July 2015 when I was on holiday looking for a good book to read and found a freebie called Broken (that’s how the first book was called back then). I was captured right from the start and no matter how long it took for the series to finish, I waited (sometimes rather impatiently =P) for it to continue and for the characters to find their HEA.

Now, I did not expect for the story to go the way it went because who would have thought after the tunnels that the characters would end up here?! But it could not have been any better!!

After six books, I was more relaxed than ever reading this installment because I trusted the author to deliver yet another great chapter of the characters' lives. And I was right because I was pulled into their world, anxious at every twist and turn, happy about the developments and pleased with each page turned.

Even after six books, the author managed to surprise me and made it even harder for me to say goodbye to this series and its characters. I will miss them so much.
‘I might as well lay down and die here.’

Everything came together perfectly in this conclusion which made for an amazing ending of the series.

If you stuck around so far, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you anything about the story and you surely can't wait to finally dive in. Enjoy the last ride.

Well... after the bleak ending of book 6 I wasn’t sure what to expect and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. It’s high octane all the way as this final book in the series is filled with more twists and turns. Starting a new life in Italy the unlikely family had re grouped and started to live not just survive. Everyone aside from Emily who is lost without her anchor. Finding her own strength she has become a lioness as she has grown into the person she was always destined to be. But is that enough? Secrets and lies have a way of being unearthed but can she forgive and move on?

This series has been a whirlwind of suspense, action, romance and brutality. I loved Jai throughout and he was definitely the stand out character from this series. The extended family Stone is heartwarming and I loved that they ended up as a unit, brought together by everything they survived and endured. I have to say overall it was a four and a half star read as I’m still curious about the MC and the lose ends of their betrayal as Jai is still part of their brotherhood, yet it seems this plot-line was abandoned along the way. Aside from that little niggle I totally loved this series, the characters and plot. I loved the twists and turns, the shock and horror moments and the strength they each found in one another. This was the first series I have read by this author and I’m glad I’ve found another author to add to my one click list!

A four and a half star read.

What a finish to an epic tale! The final instalment of New York Crime Kings series was a fitting end to a rollercoaster ride.

We left the previous book, Guts & Glass, on a dramatic cliffhanger. We jump straight back into the action with Emily's Prologue, the suspense building immediately. Then the story picks up 6 weeks later. I can't reveal any more, without spoiling the emotional journey you will take with Emily.

This novella was not as action orientated as those that came before, but I didn't find it lacking in any way. This was a natural progression of the story. The final conflict was all I wanted it to be. The emotion felt real, a well-written conclusion to Jai and Emily's story.

I recommend lovers of mafia/crime/action romances to give this series a try. I'm going to revisit the story now that I can read them back to back.

Great way to end the series! Fast-paced and full of suspense. This author managed to surprise me again when I didn’t think there were any more surprises. Emily takes an emotional journey throughout this book. I love Jai and Emily together and I hated saying goodbye to them. Again I have to say fabulous conclusion to a fantastic series. I highly recommend reading this series.

I need to begin by saying. I read these books in succession in the space of 4 days and that the only way for me to write the reviews are as a whole. It was like one huge book and I loved and lived every single second of it.

I started out very tentative, cautious and wondered where the story would lead, how they would survive and escape the nightmare that Jai had willing entered. But that Emily had stumbled across and been forced to enter. In the beginning I hated Jai almost as much as Skull ( I will come back to him later) but my hatred turned to compassion over time. When I thought about his reasons and I know I would do the same for family. He only did for Emily what he felt was right and I see that clearly now

Emily, Em/Kitten annoyed the life out of me at first, I thought she was weak and whinging. How wrong was I. That women was strong and  had more more balls then most men. She had no one and nowhere to call hers. No family, friends, nothing. And my heart broke for her often. And it completely broke me and I lived what she did as the books and stories continued. She sucked me in and made me feel so so much.

The characters that came and went through the pages, all contributed to making this story an epic one. One that will stay with me over time.  Skull the other main character was a funny character to hate. I know, its weird to say but I felt anger, yes of course I did but I also felt he was made from circumstance. Not of his doing and he was a broken human and his mind was lost. You can see that clearly throughout. So I had a hard time, hating all of him, if that makes sense. Skull was a vile monster, he played that part well and that part I did hate with a passion.

Now I wont spoil or ruin anything just know that this is a tragic tale. A crazy ride that will have your emotions all over the place. It isn't a story for the faint of heart. There is death, destruction and a cold hearted vengeance, that never stops. The kind that only death will end. There are no hearts and flowers. But there is love, friendship and family. And an undying need to protect. That's what made this book for me. That family is what matters blood or not.

This series is a huge recommend for me. I really can't say more than that it's truly Epic

Such a great series. I loved all of these books! Skyla Madi, you've done a great job with this series and I am sorry to see it end. However, I am happy with the ending.

Emily is devastated after the explosion at Skull's compound, and Jai has not returned to her to lead her out of the woods. Joel is there with Monique and he finally convinces Emily to go with him and that Jai will meet up with them as soon as he can. She holds onto that hope for as long as she can, but when six weeks has passed and Jai still hasn't shown up, she is helpless and agrees to finally go away with Joel, Ted, Monique, Hannah, and Huss, to start a new life in Europe.

Jai Stone, a man who would do anything to save Emily, even die for her to keep her safe,. He may have done that this time to end Skull and keep Emily and Monique safe from his twisted and macabre hold. Emily has to believe he is dead so that she can move on, but it doesn't help. It is taking everything Jai has to stay away from Emily to keep her safe, but he can't stand it any longer.

Joel and Monique have a good life now, a son, and a winery that it thriving. Emily the VP of the winery and lives on the property in her own place, but she is really only going through the motions of life and is not really living. Ted, Hannah, and Huss have moved on, but they still come around for special occasions and to spend time with Emily, Joel, Monique, and Jake.

This was a great series and I loved all of the characters in the story. I did have a love/hate relationship with Huss for a while, but he may have redeemed himself a little by the end of the book. I give this story and series a 5 star review, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading a story about men who are strong, caring, protective, and will fight with everything they have for family to keep them safe, even if it means that they have to give up that family for a time.

Death & Dust is the final book in Jai and Kitten's story from the New York Crime Kings series by Skyla Madi. You must read the other books before Death & Dust, this is NOT a standalone. I cannot stress that enough, in fact if you haven't read the other books stop reading this now!

I hate writing reviews for books in series' as its so hard to not give spoilers, Death & Dust is no exception especially with the cliffhanger ending of Guts & Glass. Death & Dust is a very eye opening book. I loved the plot twists and the things that come to light that I didn't see coming. Some things I'd forgotten about, then remembered! I think I went through a complete 360 degree set of emotions while reading. The ending was just right, the story had the right amount of tension, climax, drama and everything really.

Over all I loved Death & Dust and think Skyla has done an amazing job keeping a series fresh, exciting and something different for seven books! That's not an easy task, especially for a reader like me. Often I get bored in these series', but no Skyla kept me interested and for that she deserves a medal!

I feel slightly envious for those who discover the New York Crime Kings series now and get to read this series back to back as it really is something! Skyla created a story of love, revenge, action, drama, romance, hatred... I don't even know how she did it, but I have loved this series and recommend it to those who like a darker romance. These books aren't heavily dark, but some of them are a little graphic. I give the series of The New York Crime Kings 4 stars and this final book, Death & Dust 4 stars too. I believe all the books are available on Kindle Unlimited to those who subscribe, its worth the subscription for a month alone to read these! Highly recommended, Skyla... I applaud you!

Amazing.. Consuming... Obsessive .. F*CKING BRILLIANT EPIC READ!!!!

This book was an absolute delight to read.

I recommend you read the first book in the series before starting this one because

Jai and Emily’s story starts in the first book.

After reading this whole series, I was really excited to get my hands on this book.

I don't think I can fully explain how excited I was to read this book. This book was her most raw and gritty book yet. Made my heart pound with what might happen, how the story would develop, and the characters were so real in my mind.

It begins as one thing and then completely transitions into another, both sides had me completely captivated.

Death & Dust was absolutely captivating. Not once did I want to put it down, but when I did, it was all I could think about.

This book took me by surprise, came very close to home, and really made my brain and heart work overtime from the get go and it honestly kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down.

This is it ! The final chapter of Jai and Emily. I don't whether Im happy or sad ! The suspense has destroyed me, needing to know how it ends but at the same time not wanting it to end. This is a series that i will not forget in a hurry and Im sure all other readers will be feeling the same.

My heart broke for Emily it really did but deep down there was so much hope for something I wasn't sure was going to happen ! There was no way i was putting this book down until I knew the ending. This last book will take you on an emotional roller coaster and threaten to throw you off at any time!

Emily went from a timid little kitten to a woman full of confidence and strength and this was all down to Jai and Skull ! Both who played a huge part in Emily becoming this amazing character that you will love and admire!

Jai has been strong from the start, he fights for what is his and didn't give up. He made promises that he isn't sure he can keep but will do everything in his power to try for his Kitten. Jai is a hot alpha male who has a hot temper to match but my god you will love him that from the start!

This series has been immense and i have loved every minute of it . Skyla Madi is an amazing author and would recommend anyone to read this series.

Wow! With the end near the anticipation of who is going to survive and who isn’t will be the only outcome you have your sights set on. Death is not an option but something that will bring the freedom these character's seek. The abuse and the headgames Skull inflicts upon his captives will bring chills to your core and leave an everlasting fear and dread inside your being. His own insanity and hopeful demise is the ultimate desire for me. I like revenge and the more sadistic for Skull the better. After his own choices ruined his own self, the downward spiral is one that gives the reader a gasp and leaves you wanting to feel something other than hate for him. With all the evil he has inflicted, you only foresee forgiveness for like a second.

The darkness that surrounds these characters will have you second guessing all you know, in order to try to comprehend the cause of all the violence, death and peace that comes with this final battle between good and pure evil. When the end comes, you will not feel any safer than you did while reading the first in this series.

This is the seventh and last book in this series. They must be read in order. This book is emotional for sure. I felt for Emily. At the end of book 6 they all managed to escape from Skull’s hold. However, Jai stayed back to make sure that Skull was actually killed. But, then he never showed up at the safe house. They waited six weeks and then left for Italy just like they had planned. Now a year later and Emily is still grieving for Jai. She can’t bring herself to date. She still feels like its Jai or no one. Things like always in this series take a turn and get real interesting. I couldn’t believe that no one had taken out Skull yet. One of those things where you want to jump into the book and take care of the problem for yourself. But fear not everything turns out for the best. I really enjoyed reading this series. Its action packed and tugs at your heart strings at times. I am kind of sad that the series is done. But, I look forward to reading other books by Skyla in the future.

Death & Dust is the final book in Skyla Madi's New York Crime Kings series. Well-written (as always) and more emotional than the others, Death & Dust is gripping and fast-paced. It starts immediately after Book 6 ends and then skips a years to show them recovering from the events in the first six books. Skyla Madi does an excellent job portraying the aftereffects that people experience after a traumatic event. I read this entire series in approximately two weeks and it just felt long and drawn-out. At the end of Death & Dust I was/am neutral. Yes, it's a good story but no didn't have to take seven books to tell it. I might read more of Skyla Madi's work but probably only standalone stories.

I received an advanced copy of this book for free. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Okay, so get this.

I started this series by reading book six first.

Because I didn't know this was a series.

But, I was hooked from the very beginning of book six and even gave it a five star review because of how amazing it was.

As a blogger, I didn't have time to read the first five before I read this, so I just picked up where I left off and this book was awesome!!!

I love the suspense. I love the relationships between all the characters, and I love that it's a short, quicker read.

If I had time, I would be all up in the first five books of this series, but as a blogger, we get inundated with reviews and I usually overbook myself (shame on me!) and just don't have time.

Great job, Skyla Madi! You have me hooked!

This series is so raw, it is addictive. I fell in love with it. I had never read any of Skyla’s books until less than ten days ago, now I sit here writing this last review for Death & Dust and I don’t know how to feel that the journey is over. This final book was filled with many twists and turns which I have come to expect from reading this series, though it wasn't as action packed as the rest of the series.
I cannot say that I am disappointed with the way that this series ended. It is a series that is full of suspense, action, romance, violence and betrayal. I adored the characters. it was the perfect ending to a brilliant series.

So this is the final book of Emily and Jai Stone, and tbh I have a big expectations for this however its a big disappointment atleast for me.

I did not like at all the "death stage" and the grovelling don't exist at all, Emily became very soft, okay I get that she's Madly in love with Jai, but girl atleast show some backbone, after he fooled you all this time and once he finally decided to show up his ass your so eager like a Pup. 🙄

Don't get me wrong I love this couple all through the 6 books. However for this book, meh, it feels like this book is being rushed and in that way it saddens me that the finale is an anti-climatic.

I was lucky enough to win this series in a giveaway. I had no idea what to expect as the author was new to me. From the first book I was hooked. Each one is captivating.. filled with darkness and hope. I was on the edge of my seat, reading as fast as I could, through each twist and cliffhanger. I am so glad I read the series in one stretch.. the storyline leaves you wanting more until the end and it would have been torture waiting for each book. This book ends the series and it was everything I hoped it would be. I really enjoyed them all.

Thanks to Skyla, she sent me the whole series to read before I read my ARC copy of this. And I love her for it! I was addicted to this series from beginning to end. I honestly couldn’t get enough. I was dragged into Emily and Jai’s world and I never wanted to leave. I made it through the series in only about three days if not less. I was that addicted. I’m so sorry to see it end here but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. The action was awesome! I’ll for sure have to read more of Skyla’s books!

Wow!!

I started reading this series immediately after the first book had been published. I didn't know what this series was going to be about, just that I had read other books written by Skyla and I enjoyed them as well but this series is without a doubt my most favorite. I have followed the characters from the beginning and I found myself counting down until the next book would be published so that I could find out what happened next. There were so many details written in each book of this series and this was the perfect ending. I look forward to reading all of it again.

I just finished Death & Dust, and I cannot explain the emotions I'm going through. I have loved Jai and Emily from the beginning and I'm incredibly sad that their story had ended. Jai will always be my #1 book boyfriend. He was truly an amazing character. I hope someday this series is released in an audible version, as I would fall even more in love with the man. Thank you Ms. Madi for the perfect ending to Emily and Jai.

A short read turned into a hot read I could not put down. Tearing myself away from this book was almost virtually impossible. I felt like I was with the main characters. Living their struggles and triumphs along with them. The scenes were hot and filled with a lot of content. Although I do wish there was more to the story before their lives went to hell in a hand basket. I will be reading this series over and over again. - By Vanessa

Omdg. It’s been such a long journey. I can’t believe it’s over.
It was time though to say goodbye and let them live happily :) they’ve been through so much and we were right there with them. We were happy. We were sad. We were heartbroken. We were hoping for a miracle. We’ve been through hell and back, holding their hands.
And now we’re at peace. Because they’re happy. They have their family with them. And they have only good things to come.
Good job Skyla Madi! It was the perfect ending.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, this series is one of my all time favourites! Every book in this series is amazing, Emily and Jai were made for each other! I love the suspense in every book, the romance is hotter than you can imagine, every side character is interesting! The only thing disappointing about this book is that it’s the last one in the series!

Last book, in this series, and what an amazing conclusion...
...this series must be read in order, continues when the last book left off..

The suspense of wondering what will happen next..

This series is intense, action packed, gritty, and jaw dropping!

Last book of this series and it's been a wild ride! It was really fun to get to the end with these crazy characters. Madi has done an excellent job with character backstories and the setting!

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.

Yay! Finally we got to read the ending we’ve all been hanging out for. What a journey Jai and Emily have taken us on.
This finale will not disappoint, with twists and turns, ups and downs, love and heartache, it’s all wrapped up into an awesome ending.
