A brilliant, powerful book from one of the most respected retired military leaders of our time, General Russel Honore. Recognized as a national hero after spearheading the post-Hurricane Katrina search-and-rescue mission in New Orleans in 2005, Honore offers effective solutions to some of the most pressing problems of our time. These include hurricane preparedness, healthcare, and gun control, as well as the less-well-known issues of widespread infrastructure failure and the need to intervene in the infamous cradle-to-prison pipeline. His basic It's time to try new ways to solve our problems. Let's not continue to make the same mistakes with public policy and practice in our country... let's not stay stuck on stupid!
General Honore is true to form by speaking his truths clearly and succinctly. He gives excellent points of view on many of the challenges America and the world faces today. He shares his wisdom from his experience as a former combat leader and as a leader during natural disasters. I found this book to be very appropriate to today’s tensions that we face as a nation. His opinions are backed with facts and point out that clearly we are still “stuck on stupid” on the environment, health care, prison reform, etc. General Honore points out that we as Americans can do better. I agree with him.
A few interesting tidbits of information and a few mildly amusing anecdotes, but I probably wouldn't have finished it were it not recommended by a good friend.
