After a strange opening scene in Belgium, we finally return to our main cast after the diversion into the kurusu last volume. They get some downtime where they aren't attacked by zombies. Hiromi has completely recovered from being a zombie and is now some kind of hybrid but not a kurusu. The three of them seem to act quite irrationally to go take a bath in a hot spring while being chased by ZQN. That finale was quite crazy. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

This volume returns focus to our main trio, who start the book in a zombie-free safe place where they can take some time to recover and interact and explore the romantic triangle in which they find themselves. Hiromi, the high school student, has been in a stupor for much of the series due to a zombie bite, but she returns to coherence and her former personality with this volume though she finds herself physically changed by her experience.

A need for more ammunition and an obsession with bathing at a hot springs puts them back on the road and into more bloody zombie action. By the end, their actions are super irrational and one of them literally gets pulled into the Kurusu storyline of the previous volume in a way that has to be seen to be believed. Crazy! But fun!

So I read Kengo Hanazawa's I am a Hero Omnibus Vol. 7 like 2 weeks ago and failed to write this review in a timely manner... so I'm going to keep it short and sweet.

This volume focuses on character development. I liked it, but I wanted more zombies.

On to the next!

**Reread: This volume has a lot of strong points, our main protagonists are back, and they really amp up the story. Hiromi's odd behavior continues to hint at some of the deeper causes for the ZQNs. I do stand by that the nudity in the volume borders on needlessly gratuitous, but it didn't ruin the volume for me**

Its nice to see our main trio back in focus with this series. The Side narrative the last volume told gives more perspective to the crisis, and helps highlight some of the reasons behind Hiromi's odd behavior.

There are some sexual moments that at times felt a like they came out of no where, which results in several naked illustrations of the women in the group. It wasn't completely fanservice, but it definitely veered into that territory pretty quickly.

Be warned this volume ends on a big cliffhanger !

Hideo, Miss Oda, and a recovered Hiromi get some rest time and try to go to a hot springs.

Our original trio is back in this volume and I'm happy to return to them. Hideo is one of the most realistic characters I've read in a zombie book. He wants to be a hero so badly, and he feels like he is responsible for everyone whose with him, but at heart he's a scared, slightly mentally unbalanced ex-manga artist.

The ending is the most bizarre thing so far in the series - you will definitely want to have the next book ready when you hit that cliffhanger!

I am back. Did we need the sex plot? No. Did we need the misgendering? No (however, I support trans wild shit drama). Also, the whole bath plot is based on "the girls" complaining about their body hair, while it is literally like a week of growth on armpits and "bikini line", zero hair anywhere else. "She transgendered" will forever remain one of my favourite lines tho when talking about myself.
Also, you know it is not great when I have to ask myself whether some parts are due to character development or due to the author forgetting how to write specific characters.

Yes! If I wasn’t invested in a single character throughout Senlin Ascends then the opposite is true of this series. I am invested in every character! This manga hits different in so many ways and as it features a mysterious pandemic slowly spreading across the world it’s kinda topical! What has been slow and steady through the first six volumes has started to become a bit of a rollercoaster as we approach the finish (volume 10?). I am unwrapping number eight right now 😄

I love how, no matter how bad things get in the zombie apocalypse, Hideo never stops being a horn-dog.

If there is any thing unique about I Am a Hero is how it really tells the story. While the zombie genre has died down a little, its still a popular genre among many others who love it. This manga has taken the genre into a whole other level - mutation. As this volume focus back on Hideo Szuki, Hiromi (last seen after she was infected not entirely), woke up and seem normal except she is able to talk to the dead and even have super strength. As Ms. Oda and Hideo explore their relationship, the trio headed for a hot spring bath and that's where it started to get weird. I had fun reading this volume and I am looking forward to read the next one to see where this is going.

A zombie-apocalypse from a very different perspective; one where difficulties stem not only from relationships and the impulse for survival but from within; difficulties that may have been lingering in the mind prior to the apocalypse itself.
