Believe me, the 3 stars are being generous! Probably more a 2.5 but rounded up. This is book three in a six book mini-series dealing with terrorist mastermind Damien Friehof and his grudge against Omega Sector. He believes they killed his wife, so now he wants to make them suffer by similarly killing loved ones. And he does this by....targeting members of Omega not already in a loving, committed relationship.

Makes sense, right? I mean, wouldn't you go after leader Steve Drackett, or Brandon Han or Liam Goetz or Bob and Terry and Bam Bam and the 100 other characters who get name-checked here? Seriously, though, wouldn't an established character with a wife and toddlers make a more sensible target than some random agent who's just had a one night stand with a hairdresser?

No, I couldn't fully get my head around it either. Nor could I understand why Damien Friehof spent the first half of the book going on about not getting other people to do his dirty work because the job was best done by himself, only to then go and do that for the second half of the book. Crouch tries to up the stakes by killing off a relatively important recurring character...but they weren't under 40 or hot, so I guess it doesn't matter.

The characters probably save this one. Roman Weber is very likable as the hero. Strong, determined, respectful - marry me, Roman! Keira won me over also. She's a strong heroine, even if her "I don't want to hold you back" rhetoric to Roman over what his mother (not him) told her, got old quickly. Roman has shown over and over again that he doesn't feel that way, and she just keeps on bringing it back up again and again and again. And this is based on someone else's words, not Roman.

Roman's mother was a Boo!Hiss!Spit! villain, and I guess I do enjoy some potential-mother-in-law dramatics. I certainly would have given her a good slap! She was quite reprehensible and But it provided some additional angst that you don't often get in the Intrigue line. Sometimes I enjoy an external conflict, rather than endless internal hand-wringing.

But the dumbness does add up:

Another issue, and one that is found in most of Crouch's books, is the inclusion of so many characters from previous books. She tosses them in there as if we should know who they are (and admittedly I do because I've read a few books now), but then goes on to give us a detailed history of their relationships and past traumatic experiences, as if she doesn't trust us to remember. So which is it? And to be honest, I have a hard time keeping them all apart. I don't have the time to keep a series bible of these books unlike Crouch probably does.

I'm going to stop now before my good will runs out and I knock this one back down to 2 stars!

I enjoyed this romantic suspense with plenty of action that moved right along. I particularly liked the humanitarian aspect of this story. After his initial stumble, I thought the hero was a nice patient and steadfast kind of guy. Roman and Keira hook up at their friends wedding then call it quits until she is threatened and he is determined to protect her.

Excellent continuation of the series. This book opens with both Roman and Keira at the wedding of their friends Andrea and Brandon (Man of Action). They are immediately drawn to each other, spend an incredible weekend together, and start an intense relationship. Outside interference brings an end to it, but neither one can forget what they had together.

I liked both Roman and Keira. Having recently survived life-threatening injuries, Roman has made some changes in his life. He's no longer the light-hearted fun guy, all too aware of how short life can be. He is also from a wealthy and connected family, with a mother who has plans for his future, ones that he doesn't necessarily agree with. I loved his desire to do something good with his life, and that he is determined to choose his own path. Keira is an incredibly strong woman. Alone after the deaths of her parents, her desire for love and family led her into an early marriage. When that marriage turned brutally abusive, she escaped and went on with her life. I loved how she took what happened to her and used it to help other people.

I loved the development of Roman and Keira's relationship. When he discovers that Keira may be the next target of Damien Freihof, he is determined to keep her safe. Keira is equally determined to keep him out of her life, not wanting to get her heart stomped on again. Roman knows he was a jerk and is determined to win her back - even more so when she reveals that she's pregnant. I loved that Roman was immediately on board with becoming a father. Though stunned at the news, it makes him happy. His protectiveness also extended past keeping her out of danger to wanting to do anything to make her life easier. I liked how anything that was important to her was also important to him, including the ladies at the shelter. After having failed so miserably at standing up to his mother the first time around, he did much better the next time she appeared unexpectedly, especially considering who she brought with her. I ached for Keira, because she had to deal with the bad memories that were resurrected, but cheered at the way she stood up for herself. Those memories still have enough of a hold on her that she resists the idea of anything permanent with Roman. He won major points with me for his patience and willingness to go with whatever she was comfortable with. I loved his big moment at the end - it was so sweet and romantic.

The suspense in this one was another page-turner. Once again, Freihof uses the people they care for against the members of Omega. Some things jumped right out at me as having his fingerprints all over them, and others had me wondering. The snowstorm incident had me worried because I didn't know how far it would go. The escalating events at the salon/shelter had everyone's nerves on edge. There were several twists and turns that added to the confusion of who was behind each attack. I loved the methods used by Omega to get information from one of the suspects. The final confrontation of the book was one that was intense and frightening in what evil someone is capable of. Things looked very bad until Roman got some help from a very unexpected source. The team has also received undeniable proof that there is a traitor in their midst, but they don't yet know who it is. I have a suspicion but will have to wait to see if I'm right.

Um, these Omega people are pretty fraking dense. I think that, quite frankly, they deserve everything that they get... and then some.

Annnd... lead bloke's mum? Yeeeuuuckkk. I would never had let off as lightly as they did. Irrespective of what she did at the end? Honestly, I don' think she would've cared if lead female had died... it was just about making herself look better.

I cannot wait for the ending of this... how will they ever take down this criminal mastermind... I mean, they can't even track Mr Fawkes... LOL.

26/02/21 So, it only takes several deaths, lots of injuries, masses of destruction for Steve to finally say:

“Freihof has brought a war to us. To our own doorstep. We’re going to damn well make sure he regrets that.”

And I am shaking my head at myself in disappointment, why did I read this again?

Um..this book was rather dull. I found the main characters to be caricatures. It was monotonous to read how the villain again brainwashed a person to take revenge from Keira. The whole story felt like a repetition of other books I have read. This was the least interesting book of the series till now.
I was only worried about Liam who got severely injured in this book. He has been one of my favourite characters and I enjoyed his book.

Keira Spencer is a remarkable heroine. Orphaned at seventeen, she has no family and no money because her well-intentioned parents tied up her inheritance until she turned twenty-five. Alone in the world, she falls for a man from a wealthy family with political connections, Jonathan Cunningham. When she marries him at nineteen, she finds out the hard way he’s not the man she thought he was – he’s a violent, abusive sociopath. Keira lands in hospital more than once, and instead of supporting and helping her, her in-laws do nothing. Worse still, her father-in-law threatens her, telling her nobody will believe her if she tells them what happened because his money can buy silence.

Eventually, Keira finds the strength to leave Jonathan and flees the state with absolutely nothing. She finds work in a strip club, where she meets Andrea Gordon (you can read her story in Man Of Action, where we first meet Keira). When she turns twenty-five she receives her inheritance, and it’s enough for her to buy a building. She puts in a hairdressing salon down the bottom and converts the units upstairs, because not only does she run a salon, but also a shelter where battered women can flee their abusers and have somewhere safe to go. Keira takes them in and teaches them a trade, so they can support themselves.

Keira is a fighter. She’s a survivor. She doesn’t let what happened to her define her, but instead uses her experiences to help other women. She won’t, however, ever consider marriage again.

It’s at Andrea and Brandon’s wedding that she sees Roman Weber. She knows him through the bride and groom, but they get talking at the reception and she’s attracted to him, so she throws caution to the wind and agrees to leave and go up to his hotel suite. They stay there for a few days before eventually heading back to reality.

Reality intrudes with a bang when Keira finds out eight weeks later that she’s pregnant, despite them using protection. She’s never really considered having a child before, but finds she really wants to keep the baby. She tells Roman about the baby and he warms to the idea instantly, of not only being a father but making a go of his relationship with Keira because he’s drawn to her. He finds out about the shelter and admires her quiet strength and determination to do good out of bad.

However, a few things start to get in their way: his snooty mother, for one, who is none too impressed to find out her beloved son, for whom she has great political aspirations, has knocked up an ex-stripper. She believes Keira is only after the Weber money and is determined to get rid of her, no matter how much it costs. She goes out of her way to blindside Keira at every turn and even offers her money to terminate her relationship with Roman – and the pregnancy. Keira, who won’t kowtow to anyone ever again, refuses.

But their biggest problem is the person who’s trying to kill Keira. Damien Freihof is back in the picture; if you’ve read previous books, you’ll know he’s the psychopath who is determined to make every single SWAT team member pay because he lost a loved one in a hostage situation gone wrong. He’s cunning and manipulative, and won’t stop until he succeeds in killing them all. He does take the life of an Omega Sector member in this book and badly injures another, and I can’t wait for them to finally catch up to this monster and take him down. He’s only managed to avoid them so far because there’s a mole inside Omega Sector feeding him information (and I think I might finally have figured out who it is – I love a good mystery!).

Old demons come back to haunt Keira and it’s only with Roman by her side that she manages to survive. I’m not going to spoil you as to who’s after her or how Freihof plays into it, but all will be revealed and Roman and Keira get their happy ending. Yay! Another great instalment in the Omega Sector series.

***The author very kindly gave me an ARC of this book to read and review.

The Omega Sector's intense and riveting fight for survival continues as Damien Freihof has made it his mission in life to make the members of the Omega Sector suffer like he has suffered. Damien Freihof has made the battle personal, and it seems that the elite agency is crumbling under the attacks coming from all sides.
Most of the characters in this story are old acquaintances in the series, and I would recommend reading the previous books before reading this one, to grasp the whole picture. Not just with the malice, Damien Freihof is causing, but the female lead is also introduced previously, and to get the whole backstory, in my opinion, is rather important in this case.
Keira Spencer is an amazing heroine. She is as genuine as they come, she is a tough and strong woman, she is not afraid to stand up for herself, she is a survivor, and she is a role model, philanthropist, smart, independent lady who has learned the hard way to take care of herself. Keira is my favorite part of the story, she won my heart over when she was first introduced, and she was shining in this tale, as well.
I liked Keira and Roman Weber together, they seemed to have such a special, good, solid, sizzling, connection at the beginning of the tale. The chemistry was there, the spark was more like an inferno, and they both were really into each other. Until they were not.
One of my pet peeves in romance novels is the grown people who let their meddling parents influence their lives, especially if those parents are snobbish, arrogant, and/or condescending like Roman's mother. I'm not going to get more into details so I don't give away anything, but his mother never won me over, after everything she did. And Roman, well, there's a rant here that would give away the whole suspense plot of the story, so I just say that he is a very lucky man, indeed.
Ah, do not get me wrong I did enjoy the book. I was clued into the story, it is compelling, it touched my emotions and broke my heart a bit. It is engrossing, filled with twists, and it fast paced even though it takes over a longer period of a time. The story is filled with dangerous attacks, that puts some of our favorite characters into life and death situations, that had me gasping, and worried sick for their survival. I enjoyed the story immensely, it was a great continues to the series, and I can't wait to read the last installment, next month, to find out how it all will be solved.
And Keira, she will definitely go to the hall of fame as one of my favorite heroines of all times. That survival instinct accompanied by the desire and will to help and better other people's lives, the smarts and guts, she is a true 'shero' and every time I think of her, the song Super Woman by Alicia Keys plays in my mind. She deserves all the best in the world, and at the end, Roman might just grow to fit that spot perfectly.
What will happen to the Omega Sector? Will it crumble and fall at the multiple of attacks by the criminal mastermind? Are they able to catch the killer, the one person who has hurt them and their loved ones? Will there be Omega Sector left after Damien Freihof is done and ready with them? The hurt and injured agents that we have grown to care for, what will be their future and destiny, will the recover fully, will they all survive? So many questions left open at the end, and I can't wait to find out what will happen!

There's nothing I love more than a woman who kicks ass and sticks up for herself and others. Keira is made of win. She has a fire and a passion inside of her that couldn't be extinguished by an anguishing past. Roman is an amazing partner to her. Someone who understands what it means to be human, frail, and vulnerable. He allows her freedom within the bounds of protection and is always in her corner.

Well, except for their one falling out that caused a two-month separation, but not for the reason Keira or Roman's mother thinks. The depth of his feeling was intense and more than he could handle and adding in his mother's manipulation, his fear won out and he pulled away. Their reunion was realistic, frustrating, and perfect for the story. Adding in the drama surrounding the Omega Sector and you get one hell of a ride.

The complexities of character were there mostly in Keira and while not as strong in Roman, it didn't diminish the strength of his character in the least. I do wish that Keira had told off Roman's mom or at least silently maintained her backbone instead of retreating inside herself. Roman's dedication to her and his actions showed only support and commitment. Making decisions for someone else based on insecurity and/or manipulation is wrong no matter what the intention behind it is. I was very glad for Roman's intuitiveness to head off any other foolish separations with his honesty and insightful questions and declarations.

The danger to Keira was a bit unexpected and made the novel more focused on Keira and Roman's story rather than the underlying plot for the entirety of the Omega teams in regards to Freihof. Freihof is more of a puppeteer and his role is far from over and will be continued in more of the Under Siege series. For Roman and Keira, though, Freihof orchestrated a confrontation between them and Keira's harrowing past. The conclusion of which was surprising with the character that rode in to save the day. Such a great story with an awesome ending that was perfect for the MC's and their evolution.

ARC willingly read and reviewed.

Damien Freihof is still determined to get rid of anyone that Omega Sector loves. This time it's Keira Spencer who he believed to be important to Roman Weber, an Omega Sector agent because she had spent a weekend with him a couple of months earlier. He didn't know they hadn't seen each other since. When Omega found out Freihof was after Keira, they sent someone to safeguard her. The man assigned was Roman. He was thrilled to be doing this because Keira had dumped him after their fantastic weekend and he was dying to see her. He never knew the reason she did it was that his mother had made it clear that Roman was destined for better things and Keira would hold him back.

I liked Kiera a lot. She didn't let her abusive past hold her back but used her experiences to help other abused women by giving them a place to live and learn a trade when she opened Fresh Starts. I do wish she had said something to Roman's mother, though, instead of believing what she said and walking away from him. Not only was Roman a terrific agent but a good man. He understood Keira's abusive past and didn't push her but was patent with her. His reaction to the pregnancy was what every woman hopes for. You've gotta love a man who protects his woman, whether she wants it or not.

I FLEW through this book. Janie's writing flows so smoothly, the editing is meticulous and the suspense was sprinkled in juuuuuuuust the right places to keep me eagerly turning the pages.

Electrifying intrigue! With the next book in her Omega Sector: Under Siege series, Janie Crouch continues to keep us enthralled with catching the bad guy! Damien Freihof has been playing cat and mouse with the Omega team for months now, and they keep getting closer and closer to his lair, but he keeps managing to slip away just before they can nab him. The characters are mostly familiar from previous books, so it's always fun to get caught up on what's happening with previous couples as we dive into a new relationship forming. Always a great read!

Hairdresser Keira Spencer thought she might have found a good guy for a change when she spent a passionate weekend with Roman Weber a couple of months ago, but his high society family and her sordid past didn't exactly mesh well together, so they parted ways. Now he's suddenly showing up in her life again telling her that she's the target of a murderous mad man ... just when she finds out she's pregnant!

Omega Sector team member Roman Weber suffered his own torture from this psychopath that now has Keira in his cross hairs, so he will stop at nothing to keep her safe ... especially when he learns they have a baby on the way!

This book continues the quest of finding Damien Freihof, the evil man who has decided to destroy Omega Sector, by killing and/or incapacitating it’s members. While his monstrous mind threatens the group, a mole has been discovered, but who it is, is still unknown.
Intertwined in that story, we have Roman Weber and Keira Spencer who had a weekend affair when they met at the wedding of mutual friends. Roman is a member of the Omega Sector SWAT team and Keira is hairdresser whose past has made her the woman she is today.
But after that idillic weekend, they abruptly part ways after an incident with Roman’s mother .
Two months later they meet again. She needs protection and he is determined to provide it and get back together with her, and she has to confess to him the consequences of their time together.
It was a fast paced story, filled with suspense, evil individuals, and romance. The characters were complex and well developed.
Definitely looking forward to what else Ms Crouch has in store for us in her next book.
This was an ARC copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is an awesome series. Each book can be read as a standalone. The book starts out with both Roman and Keira hiding in a corner out of sight at a wedding. They danced, and talked hitting it off immediately. Needless to say, the two left and spent a wonderful weekend together.
Keira had managed to get away from her ex husband that beat her so bad she stayed in the hospital a few times. She is one strong lady. Keira wanted to help other women who needed a fresh start, so she opened a shelter. Not only did she give them a place to live, she also took the time to teach them a trade so they could get jobs.
Roman is part of SWAT, and just found out Keira may be the next target of Damien Freihof. He becomes her personal body guard. The book had some intense parts. I loved the suspense, action and romance. I also loved how Roman stepped up to the plate and wanted to be a father when he found out Keira was pregnant. I’m also glad he finally put his mother in her place. I didn’t like his mother, but I’m glad she redeemed herself in the end. This was a good book.

Cease Fire is the thirteenth book in the Omega Sector Universe Series (Omega Sector: Under Siege Book #3) by Janie Crouch. I am reviewing The Omega Sector Universe series, which is made up of 16 engrossing reads and comprises of three connected series.
Omega Sector

Omega Sector: Under Siege
This is a compelling collection of romantic suspense novels that blends high-stakes action with emotionally engaging storylines. The series focuses on a team of elite operatives who face dangerous missions while navigating complex personal relationships- resulting in a dynamic and immersive reading experience.
Each book in the series offers a unique storyline while maintaining a connection to the overarching universe. Roman works on the Omega swat team and comes from a rich political family. Keira has had a hard life and was once married to an abusive husband. He was also from a rich and powerful family who always covered for him. Keira's life is in danger and Roman's job is to protect her. Keira does trust Roman but not his family and since she was a victim once she does not plan on becoming one again. The more time they spend together the closer they get. The connection and chemistry between the two continues to grow. Keira seems to one problem after another which includes Roman's mother who will do anything to break them apart. Roman's mother was the character you love to hate.

The story was a page turner with lots of suspense and anticipation of what would happen next. I have thoroughly enjoyed every book from Janie Crouch and can't wait for the next one. This has been a great series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

You may notice I don't leave a synopsis of the book in my reviews, you can find that before you buy the book at any online book seller. What I do comment on is my reaction to the story and the writing as a whole. I love Janie Crouch and her book series'. The Omega Stalker is very clever and devious, but we knew that when he first appeared as a bank robber in the beginning of this series Under Siege. I loved the story about Keira and how she picked herself up and forged ahead after each mishap and, like most of us, wouldn't see any connection between little, but very aggravating, things going on around her. She is another of Janie's strong and resilient female lead characters. Roman is the perfect guy for her. Good suspense and action. Keeps the characters on their toes and the reader too.

A fantastic addition to this series

This was an intense and complex story that will hook you from beginning to the very end. Although I wouldn't wish any type of domestic violence on anyone, I loved how the heroine not only handled her own situation, but she created a safe place for other women, as well as a way to empower them and help them become self-reliant. After deciding to do something that's completely out of character for her, it lands her right in the middle of the horrific battle between Omega Sector and an evil mastermind. Will her choices destroy everything she's worked for, or will they be the best decisions she's ever made? You'll have to read this to find out, but I would highly recommend that you start reading from the beginning! You certainly don't want to miss out on anything.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Cease Fire
Janie Crouch

Roman Weber and Keira Spenser are two of my favorite characters that pull you into the story. She is such a strong character who has overcome so much. Roman realizes there is more going on than he understands until his mother decides to enlighten him!
Janie has written his mother so well that I really really disliked her. Can she be redeemed? Is she one of the many dangers they need to be on alert against? Who is the most dangerous to them??? Can they have a happy ending? A story that kept me turning page after page until the end. So glad I’m a night owl.
A must read in her Omega Sector: Under Siege series.

I'm a recent fan of Janie Crouch and after reading Cease Fire I have to say I'm in for the long haul. Ms. Crouch writes a smart romance with well developed characters and unique storylines. Cease Fire is a second chance romance between Roman and Keira. Roman finds out the woman he can't get out of his thoughts is in grave danger. Roman proves himself to Keira, leaving no doubt that he would do anything to protect and cherish her. I absolutely loved this story. Cease Fire was intelligent(no eye rolling here)and filled with suspense and intrigue which left the reader on the edge of their seat.

This is a great romantic suspense book. A quick, satisfying read with great characters. Keira has made herself strong and self sufficient after a brutal marriage. Roman has the strength and patience that she needs to learn to trust again. This is the first book of this series that I've read and there is an overarching storyline between books....but it is easy to follow what happened previously and I had no problem understanding what was going on. Although not ending in a cliffhanger the search for the bad guy continues into the next book...which I have already preordered. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

This book was about a woman who divorced and ran away after being severely abused by her wealthy husband six years before. She ended up running a salon (which was also a shelter from women who had to run away like she did and had nowhere to stay. An Omega Sector elite crime fighting agent falls in love with her and finds out she needs protection. A vicious murderer has targeted all the loved ones of Omega Sector agents. Her former ex is also after her. There is lots of action, adventure, and romance. I highly recommend this book! Well worth the purchase price (as are the other books of Janie Crouch)!

Cease Fire is the 3rd book in the Omega Sector Under Siege series by Janie Crouch. I loved Roman and Keira! They are absolutely wonderful. The fire they share and the amount they care about each other is amazing. I would personally like nothing more than to strangle Roman's mother in this book. She is just evil. I understand she was looking out for her son but she could have ruined the best thing to ever happen to him.

I love Keira's strong will and independence. She fought so hard to become the woman she is today.

I truly enjoyed the story and give it 4 stars. However, I caution others against listening to the audio book. The narration was truly awful. The bot voice kept mixing up what dialogue belonged to which character and the inflections were horrible to nonexistent. Apple books should have invested in a real person to voice this book. While I did not allow that to influence my rating of the actual book, I thought a warning appropriate so that anyone else interested in the story reads instead of listens to this book.

This is the 3rd book in this series.

After a passionate weekend, the hero and heroine’s lives didn’t mesh. However, a few months later, the crazy man at the center of this series sets his plans for the next person he wants to target which is our hero and heroine.

The plot was good and while it seemed to be going along the hero and heroine gets together and madman attacks. But this one has a few more twists and turns than this plot.

Looking Over Your Shoulder

3.5 Stars - Roman and Kiera's story was just okay for me. There were several sad parts in their story. Kiera is definitely a survivor. Roman's mother makes things extremely tense while there is danger all around. I wanted to know more about Liam's condition. Plus, Omega is starting to look weak to me and the romance is still to vanilla for my liking. I hope the next story is better.

I really enjoyed this Intriguing Romance. I bought this at a local library sale and I voluntarily chose to review it. I gave it a 4.5* rating. This is full of action and it pulled me in very fast. I nearly had me on the each of my seat wanting to know what would happen next. Lots going on here and this author consistently writes these suspenseful stories, as well as this. A good job again.

I love this book. Roman & Kiera's story is great. I went to a range of emotions reading this book. I loved the twists in this book especially that Kiera does. I hated Roman's mom until the end!
Another great read by Janie Crouch.
