There's nothing as soothing as the laughter of a baby. Unless you're outside at night, in a desolate and remote area, with a fog rolling in... ...and you thought you were alone. Paranormal handler Finn McCoy returns to action in the eighth installment of the series. The town of Shallow Springs has acquired a couple of small problems which are resulting in a large number of deaths. Throw a hulking, bearded vigilante and an archdaemon into the mix, and chaos is sure to follow. Can McCoy, Pru, John and the others uncover the secret behind the nightly murders? Or is the entire town destined to suffer for the actions of a few bad men?
I was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, a town nestled in the mountains of Appalachia. Which, by the way, is pronounced "apple-atcha", not "a-puh-lay-shua". My favorite TV shows as a kid were "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" and "Night Gallery" with Rod Serling. I was also drawn to books with larger-than-life heroes such as Doc Savage and Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane. I was (and still am) a big X-files fan, along with Lost, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead. I prefer horror and thrillers where there is a real, supernatural villain as opposed to psychological horror, and I try to incorporate such characters into my stories.
Just when you think, that Scott Langrel has exhausted his bag of creepy monsters, he pulls another few out!! McCoy and gang are puzzled over the deaths of a few, not so good druggies. Not that there is much left behind, after their deaths. And up pops Grizzle, he is looking to avenge his daughter's death. Fast action and all kinds of creepy things abound, in this MUST READ BOOK!!
This book is well written with great character develpment. It is a good story too. One of the best supernatural series i have read. I really enjoyed all eight which I binged ....finishing them in less than a week. I was sorry there wasn't another book in the series to read Ilook to to the next one. Meantime, I will read read the Wulf spin off. If you enjoy paranormal thrillers, you will enjoy this book and this series.
Another great book by Scott Langrel. I am always impressed by his knowledge of folk lore and mythical creatures. This book continues to show why Finn McCoy is one of the best characters in urban fantasy today. Looking forward to the next book already.
Love the series, love the storylines. It's so good learning about these new supernatural beings.....definitely enjoyed catching up with Finn, Pru, John and everyone else. Eagerly waiting for the next installment.
Love these books. The characters are people that could live in my home town--without all the fairies and demons and such. The addition of Pru was brilliant
I liked this installment, it was decently paced again and for one of the first times, Langrel takes it slow. He eases you into what is happening behind the scenes instead of giving the reader all information right away. I enjoyed that much more this time since there’s so much more going on, which is also a plus. This one felt like it really did need a follow up. However, that’s also to it’s own detriment because Langrel hasn’t written another McCoy book in over two years now, with no news of wrapping this series up. Last heard from, he intended to continue on with McCoy but nothing else has resurfaced. I really appreciated seeing Langrel’s work grow in this particular novel. He seems to give the reader more to get in touch with these characters, depth has been added and there’s some elements of surprise finally so I really did enjoy this installment more than many of the others. I hope McCoy will show up again, but until then, this was a fun one to be remembered in this series.
