What a humors entertaining adventure that had me laughing out loud. I really enjoyed how the author bought these two together with excitement and laughs throughout. I loved the unexpected romance since Caroline decided she didn’t want a man and is trying to work as a bounty hunter to make enough money to be able to support her self. This is very exciting, a lot of fun and at times very thrilling. I just could not put it down.
Caroline has decided she has had enough of her mother trying to play matchmaker and decides she needs to find something that will make her enough money to support herself. She really needs to get away from her mother who just will not give up. She really is a very sweet woman but needs to prove herself and others that she can stand on her own two feet. Her first bounty has her running right into Trent. Trent has turned over a new leaf and wants to get out of the business of breaking the law. He is not only trying to stay one step in front of the law but his old gang as well. I really liked how protective Trent is of her and her bumbling way. He keeps her close but must protect his identity he can’t have his old gang finding out he is alive or her taking him in. She keeps his my flowing on new ideas for his writing that holds him spellbound.
From one mishap to another, these two weave their self’s right into your heart to give you many laughs and a few surprises. It was a delightful read and a wonderful addition to this series. The flow is nice and steady with one thing after another. This is one author that knows how to not only entertain but keep you glued to the pages. I totally loved it. *********
2.5 stars Western historical romance featuring a bounty hunter heroine (!) and a scarred/in disguise hero. The novel starts with h trying to rope him because she thinks he is a criminal: he denies the charge although he has secrets to hide. H is immediately protective of her: he perceives she is new to the job and only apparently strong.... More or less forced proximity enhances the attraction between them but secrets from his past - he is actually hiding his identity and motives for following her - put their relationship at risk. Enjoyable read.
Caroline is fed up with being treated as stupid. She's tired of her mother trying to marry her off to men she doesn't want. Therefore, in an effort to assert herself, she decides to follow in the footsteps of her cousins and become a bounty hunter. Her first stop leads her to Trent Holmes.
Trent has a lot to hide. In an effort to get ideas to write dime novels, he went out with a notorious gang. Now, he's tangled up with them and not only has a bounty on his head, he fears for his life from the gang members. But, when Caroline tries to arrest him, he's got to think quick. So, he uses her for his next series of books and joins her on her quest for bounty.
What neither expected was the attraction that grows between them. Can Trent continue to keep her safe not only from ruthless criminals, but himself? Can Caroline ever convince others to take her seriously? What follows is a fun story with some humorous moments.
Romance - pushes into the R category due to open door scenes with moderate description. Language - several mild cuss words used Violence - non graphic gun violence, threats of gun violence, kidnapping, attempted sexual assault My rating - 4 stars
The humor in this book is what made me keep turning the pages.
Caroline is finally taking the reigns back on her life. She's tired of her mom trying to marry her off to every eligible bachelor in their small town and she definitely tired of everyone looking and treating her like an airhead. Determined to show she can stand on her own two feet she takes up her cousin's profession in bounty hunting.
Trent has made some mistakes in his life. After being left for dead he's content hiding out and writing his stories, and now he's found the perfect muse for his new installments. Determined to keep Caroline from discovering his past he's convinced her to teach him the art of bounty hunting (although he seems to be the one protecting her).
I absolutely loved this book! I loved how Caroline eventually found herself, yeah she may be ditzy, but it's her character. All it finally deciding to take charge of her life for everyone to finally wake up and realize that Caroline may not be like everyone else, but that's her strength not a weakness.
A romantic adventure that will keep you entertained till the last page is read.
Caroline McKenzie has decided that marrying the pig farmer her mother is so set in pushing on her is out of the question. Thanks to her cousins she’s been practicing her shooting and is ready to follow in their footsteps as a woman bounty hunter. Her first bounty is Trent Holmes aka Frank Colten an outlaw running with the ruthless Jones Gang. Trent is not in a hurry for the gorgeous curvy bounty hunter to blow his cover, all he wants is to stay hidden from the gang that thinks he’s dead and write his novels. But Caroline has a bumbling way about her that get his imagination juices flowing. And he definitely can’t have her going about looking under stones for trouble he has to keep her close by for her protection and his latest book right? Not the way she makes him feel.
This was an amazing western adventure, a woman bounty that’s keeps on getting into one quirky situation after another. I loved it and read it in one sitting, lots of humour adventure and romance. Sylvia McDaniel has another winner. Her stories never disappoint . I received a complimentary copy for my honest unbiased opinion.
When I can pick up a book and from first few pages be captivated with the characters and story I know it''s going to be an enjoyable read. Caroline is the main character in this book and from the beginning she had me chuckling over her reaction to the suitor her mom was trying to force on her. When she goes out and tries to make it on her own in the bounty hunting business her feeble attempts are at times silly and other times a little scary, but it works so well for this story and endears her character to you in a very special way. Once she starts interacting with Trent things just get better and I ended up finishing this one in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down.
Great story with lots of actions, a couple of whoops moments, and a few giggles. Love This book and the Lipstick and Lead series.
Deceived is book six of the Lipstick and Lead series, and it is a fun, sexy, action-packed story that is all about empowerment, romantic love and clever dialogue. The characters are funny, fierce and forward thinking men and women who fight against the mores and restrictions of the time to claim their place as equals in their relationships. All the while, our intrepid heroine works to capture criminals with a price on their heads so that she has the means to live her life on her own terms. Lucky for her, she also meets the like-minded man of her dreams. Caroline and Trent are perfect for each other. I haven’t read the first two books, but this is a standalone that can really be read easily without benefit of the other two. I plan, however, to read those as well because this is a great series and this new-to-me author is a wonderful storyteller.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I really liked this book. Seeing how the characters lives change once one decision is made. Caroline McKenzie will leave and become independent. It's how she decides she will do this that is concerning, she will become a bounty hunter.
Trent Holmes is trying to stay unnoticed, especially from the Jones Boys. He could really kick himself in the head for joining them. So for now he is in hiding. Until Caroline comes into the bar, and announces in a soft voice that he is under arrest.
The story is very interesting. I love the characters, with the exception of Caroline's mother. If not for Caroline's mother, Caroline's and Trent's lives would never have changed.
Caroline McKenzie has had enough. She is tired of her mother pushing her off on men, being thought of as the joke of town, and wants to prove to her cousins that she is every bit as capable of being a lady bounty hunter. Trent Holmes is an author who trying to survive life without the Jones gang. He just wants to write his stories and figure out a way to get back home. When Caroline and Trent meet he thinks he has just found the perfect subject for a new series. I loved Caroline and Trent's chemistry from the beginning. Caroline's impulsiveness and Trent's cautiousness really complete each other.
How lucky can a bounty hunter be? Caroline McKenzie has trained with her cousins to become a bounty hunter, but her abilities are suspect, especially after she tries to arrest Frank Colten, who convinces her his name is Trent Holmes. He then tags along on her search for bounties, and proceeds to save her life in each of her attempts at her vocation. But Trent has secrets he can't let anyone know, especially Caroline. The story is a mixture of adventure, romance and comedy. But ultimately, it's the tale of a young single woman becoming her own person and winning the respect of relatives, friends, and strangers. A very enjoyable read.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A Laugh out loud emotional thrill ride, an unexpected romantic adventure and highly entertaining addition to this quirky series of engaging stories.
Caroline Mckenzie is out to prove that she can be just as effective a bounty hunter as her cousins and get her outlaw. Trent Holmes is trying to survive life with out the gang he used to run with. He is trying to make his way home writing dime novels and hiding from his past. They both find exactly what they are not looking for in this intriguing journey.
Deceived is the sixth book in the Lipstick and Lead series. When you think of a bounty hunter, you normally don’t think of a woman. But Caroline wants to break that train of thought. Trent has been trying to make his way as a novelist and now has been caught on Caroline's radar for his involvement with the gang he was riding with. But now the two might make a team, he is inspired to write about a female bounty hunter. Will this be a disaster in the making? I enjoyed this story, and I definitely recommend it.
Caroline was fed up with her Mother trying to marry her off, so she decided to try her hand at bounty hunting like her cousins. Although things don't go as she planed as the man she tries to arrest say he's someone else. Trent is trying to stay hidden for the gang who thought they left him for dead, but this bumbling bounty hunting woman would have none of it. As in all of Sylvia's books there is a funny side as well as a serious one, to a company a great story line that keeps you turning the pages until you've finished the book, can't wait for her next one.
Sylvia McDaniel has done it again in this fun and entertaining read! Caroline is such a hoot as a bounty hunter with her bumbling ways and missteps. Trent, a good guy at heart, has to work really hard to keep her from getting killed and out of trouble. He is also one of the bounties she is looking for. The fun and entertainment continues page after page until Caroline and Trent do get their HEA. A series I highly recommend, each book is a standalone read and a real page turner. I would like to thank the author for gifting me "Deceived". My opinion is my own. This is mine. 4.75 Stars!
It is always an enjoyable reading experience with the bounty hunting ladies of Zenith, Texas. In the sixth book of the Lipstick and Lead series cousin Caroline, the bumbling bounty hunter, has joined the family business to avoid marriage to a pig farmer. Hiding from his past, Trent Holmes has no desire to be capture by Caroline. I received an ARC from the author for purposes of an unbiased review.
What do ya do when your family wants nothing more for you to settles down and get married and you're not ready. You become a bounty hunter of course. This romantic adventure will have you laughing out loud and so into the book that you wont even know that you are dont till you hit the last page. It's so refreshing to come across a book that you can laugh at and enjoy A romantic adventure that will keep you entertained till the last page is read.
I've read a few books by Sylvia McDaniel but none in this series. It can be read as stand alone but I do want to go back and read them in order now. Caroline has had her whole life dictated to her by her mother and she decides enough is enough. She takes control of her own life and becomes a bounty hunter. No one takes her seriously but she does a pretty good job. I was very entertained and laughed out loud many, many times. Definitely a fun read!!
I just love this series everything about it and Deceived was just as brilliant. It is very well written and comically romantic, loved the characters and there camaraderie together giving this book a unique feel. I am hoping there is more to this series I can't get enough of it. well worth the 5 Stars .
I have loved each and every book in this series, but this is by far my favorite yet! There was adventure, excitement and humor from the very beginning. I loved the characters and loved revisiting characters from other books. This can be read as a standalone. For a magnificent western with a timeless romance with humor thrown in for an added bonus, you need to read this book! Book gifted to me.
I could not help but laugh at some of the things that happened in this book and at other times it was oh what is going to happen. Well written story that kept my interest from the first page until the last one. This is the sixth book in the series and I want to reread this series when it is finished. I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
Overall, I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Certain aspects did annoy me, but the good outweighed the bad. The characters were likable and fun, and were believable as a couple. The plot was fast paced, and kept me entertained and turning pages to see what happened next. I was gifted a copy.
A great addition to the Lipstick and Lead series. Made me laugh at Caroline's antics but also made me angrey at others' perceptions of her. Not a long read but very enjoyable. I received an ARC of this story and voluntarily give this review.
A very enjoyable and fun book. Instead of marrying the man her mom wants her to she becomes a bounty hunter. Brings a man in who isn't who she thinks he is. And then the excitement begins with both of them together. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
This was an enjoyable read. It ad humor, drama and some mother daughter drama [that was unresolved}. Overall I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next release in this series. I received this book as a gift.
Once again Sylvia McDaniel takes into the adventures of the ladies of Lipstick and Lead. This time it's cousin Caroline and Trent's story. The bounty hunter discovers love with redeemed outlaw who's become a dime novel writer. Very enjoyable story.
I just finished reading all the books in this series. I love the characters I love the way McDaniel created females bounty hunters. I am pretty sure life in the wild West was hard and so e females were good hunters bounty of other. I m looking for more
This is a very well written story and the plot and characters, both reoccurring and new ones are well thought out.You will enjoy reading this story as well as the entire series.
A wonderful addition to the Lipstick and Lead series! I loved Caroline and I kept cheering her on. She was determined and I think the fact that she never gave up made her one of my favorite McKenzies.
This story is exactly what a reader can expect from a romance novel. It is fun, entertaining, and a quick read. Included in the fun are heavy breathing, shuttered glances, opening petals, and engorged members.
