Marin’s small reprieve at the Elven Kingdom turns into a longer visit than originally planned after Favian is sent on a mission with Kato and she cannot join.
When Marin meets Favian's identical twin who had been stolen at birth, she’s overcome by confusion as she starts to fall for him. She still loves Favian, even if he’ll soon start courting female elves and leave their partnership behind.
Ready to escape it all, she runs off, only to find herself in the company of another Mercenary who, with her help, discovers things aren’t really as they seem on this mission. Someone’s setting a trap…and Marin is the target.
Whoever’s after Marin has one thing in mind: stealing her power, even if that means sacrificing townspeople to do so. Marin’s already risked her heart for the Elven Kingdom…but now it’s up to her if she’s willing to risk her life for them as well.

I would give this 4 stars but the main character became overly annoying. Not only does Marin refuse to see what is clearly obvious, she also let's her emotion get the best of her and put others in danger because of it. The one thing i did like was that she wasn't as invincible as she was in the first book and we got to know Alex a bit more. I wish more attention was paid to Maddock as he was made to be the next person she hung out w aside from Favian but we really know nothing abt him. In fact we know more of the horse master than we do him. I was also a bit disappointed not to see more of Sebastian. This storyline was more frustrating than anything. I wanted to shake Marin. Why do we still not know more abt her father. Why isn't there more of an explanation on the gods and what Marin is. Why.does the Queen forget to teach Marin something so important? What did Alexandre tell Favian? I have so many questions. Very disappointed.
Definitely a HEA ending, though I hope there are more books to come. Marin arrives home to discover that Fabian has a twin brother much to her surprise. Saves a group of humans to become a Protector, finds out her Fathers identity, discovers she’s been promised in marriage to a human, turns 18, goes through all the emotions and heartache of growing up and being in love. Really enjoyable read. Highly recommend.
DNF at 56%. I can count on one hand the amount of books I've chosen not to finish in the 40 years I've been reading books. It's not something I do lightly. I enjoyed the first book in the series but this one was a major departure from what made that one enjoyable.
Firstly, this book clearly wasn't edited by a professional because the amount of errors are glaring and at times enough to drag you out of the immersion. Secondly, there are too many things in this book that just make no sense and can't be overlooked. It makes it impossible to enjoy the story. For example, how would Marin not know that Favian had a twin? Even if it was never spoke of before the found him, why not after? It's ridiculous. Another example would be Marin, who grew up and was educated by Elves not being able to read Elvish but Sebastian who grew up and was educated by humans can. Another...the first book establishes the elves have superior hearing and now here Marin just has to talk quietly just a few steps away from other elves for them not to hear her. There are many more examples but it's too much to go through and each one alone may not seem too terrible but when you start adding them up it just makes the book unreadable.
I literally have 1000s of books on my TBR list, so I don't have time to waste on a book/story so poorly written.
Really disappointed in this one. She acts like a child, flirting with absolutely everyone then acts completely surprised that all these men like her. I wasn't feeling the multitude of men that all wanted to court her it was super annoying especially since it was so obvious that F loved her. Literally everyone and their dog knew they loved each other which just irritated me more since M seems so dense. There was a lot less fighting/action and I felt they could have brought out more for a plot for her storyline, given her heritage. Everything just felt too easy. I was expecting more from her as a badass mercenary but after her near-death where she confesses her true feelings, everything resolves and it is just "perfect."

I would really consider giving this a three. There were too many useless parts such as Sebastian. Purpose? None really. And then all the attention paid to Marin by the males at the end. Just didn't work well.
Fast read. The characters were very interesting. The story line keeper me interested enough to continue reading. Marin is a strong willed woman who life changed when she realized she wasn't just a human. Love interests galore. This book was fun.
I absolutely fell in love with Protector. I thought I really enjoyed the first book in this series Mercenary but Protector took the story to a whole new level. If I could give it more than five starts I would. It's that good!
Marin and Favian are splitting their time between the elf kingdom and going out on missions to kill ogres. While at the kingdom Marin comes in contact with who she thinks is Favian only to find out that it is his identical twin brother Sebastian. As you are probably thinking yes this does cause some problems. But Marin is more focused on becoming a Protector and killing as many ogres as she can. While at the same time she wants to find out who her real father is and what she is apart from being human. I think I was as shocked and as confused as Marin when she finds out some things from her past. She is also trying to keep Favian from finding out that she is in love with him, while it seems everyone in the kingdom knows this already. But that doesn't stop the males from wanting to court her.
Protector is full of action, suspense, lots of twists and turns and some romance. It will keep you on your toes from start to finish. There is just so much that we learn in this one but so much more to find out in the next installment too. The ending is truly magical. I could just keep gushing about this one all day. I just really loved it and hope I don't have to wait to long for the next book. This is one of those stories that I want to read over and over.

Awe!!! This was one enjoyable and heart affecting series!!! My heart ached for Marin and Favian. They seemed at times to be destined to take up the mantle of star crossed lovers. It was really interesting to see them each experience their own feelings for each other and constantly hold back. I absolutely loved this 2 book series and am sad to not have more material to read. Catherine Banks weaved one action packed and yet sincerely heartfelt drama! These characters are simply unforgettable and worthy of many revisits! The conclusion was utterly dreamy and terrifically perfect ♡♡♡
