i liked this book , i had already seen the movie which i loved so i wanted to see if the book was like the movie and for the most part it was ,over all it was good .
if you love the Jurassic park/world movies then you should read the books too.
What more than a short juicy story about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. All of them come alive in this story... each line makes them incredible.
I read this (A) out of curiousity, wondering how they turn a story with so many violent deaths into a novelization for kids, and (B) to squeeze a little more of the franchise into my life.
My conclusions: I'm kind of impressed with how the book summarizes everything. I'm not impressed with the writing. The one thing that I noticed is left out is (movie spoilers) the fact that Maisie is not actually Lockwood's granddaughter, but a clone of Lockwood's daughter. Otherwise, it seems to quite accurately follow the events of the movie.
I used this book with a small reading group of 5th graders and did a PBL unit along with it focusing on the positives and also consequences of technology. It is well written and the students begged to read it every day during our two week group. We had some fantastic conversations about ethics and technology that were sparked by this book. They specifically loved the Ian Malcolm quotes at the beginning of each chapter. As an adult, I loved it. Would read it again in a heartbeat!
I haven't seen the film this is based on, "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom", but looking at the film's Wikipedia page the book follows the plot mostly. The only exceptions I could see were that the character Lockwood dies differently, and that there is no mention of the character Maisie being a human clone. These omissions/changes are probably because this is billed as "a junior novel".
The plot is an exciting one with plenty of adrenaline-filled chases as Owen and co are chased by dinosaurs and characters are nearly always in danger. Isla Nublar, the former island site of the ill-fated theme park Jurassic World. It faces a new threat. It's volcano, thought to be dormant, has become active. "Geologists predict an extinction-level event will soon kill off the last dinosaurs known to exist on the planet. And that has raised a serious debate on the floor of the Senate today. Should the United States government step in and rescue these creatures or should we allow the dinosaurs to once again become extinct?"
Claire Dearing, has established the Dinosaur Protection Group to save the animals and is called up by Benjamin Lockwood with a plan to save them. "We have a piece of land... A sanctuary. Protected by natural barriers and fully self-sustaining. Our environmentalists say the climate will support all the species currently on Isla Nublar." So Claire is on a rescue mission with Owen Grady coming along too. But someone has betrayed them. They end up being abandoned on the island left to fend for themselves with plenty of scrapes from then on to where they ruin the betrayers' plans by the end.
This is an exciting read. It definitely suits readers who have seen the film, and those who know their dinosaurs (e.g. Compsognathus, Baryonyx, Stygimoloch). It would also have been good if there were film stills within too, and the book doesn't feature pictures, but the story is exhilarating and action-packed.
I loved this book. Because Blue & Stiggy were in it. Those dinosaurs are extremely important. And it has loads of Dr. Ian Malcolm quotes. I thought that was great. There were some differences from the movie. But it's Jurassic World and it has DINOSAURS. So it's worth reading.
I don't like much of the fast pacing in this book, but still enjoyed reading it. It was good to see also some of the deleted scenes put in this book. But what I don't understand is how the biggest plot point about Maisie is left out, and wondering how it's going to be told in the next book. I guess I will find out.
I really enjoyed this novelization which is surprising since I hated the movie when I first saw it, this felt fairly fresh for me since I had forgotten a lot of the movie and this got rid of the slow parts from the movie too. I enjoyed this but it’s not the greatest piece from the franchise for sure
Junior novelization, so of course there is some stuff missing and it is basically the movie with little extra thought or I put. I wish someone would flush out these new movies into full, adult books and explore the ‘new’ jurassics a little.
I mean, this is a literal novelization of the movie. It was fun to read and I liked a lot of the extra details that were thrown in that you wouldn't get from watching the movie.
However, the entire Maisie storyline was gone, which is weird.
This is a perfectly good recount of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movie in book form and nicely cleaned up for kids. Nice, quick read and plenty of action.
3.5 read aloud to my son. It's like watching the movie. Very exciting, very dramatic. And very gory. Not super explicit/graphic but lots of people getting eaten.
One of my new 5th grade students asked me to read one of his Jurassic World books. I’m totally not a fan of movies that turn into books because they’re just money makers. I’m giving it two stars for action. I don’t think the characters are well-developed or the plot is very great but I’m happy to have one of my student’s books that he loves so much!
Violence-guns and dinosaurs killing people, bad guys locking people up. A little graphic: Dinos biting of arms and chomping a person in two, etc. antagonist gives a patient morphine to kill him. Injuries from escapes, violence.
Language-idiot.
Sex-none
Drugs- tranquilizers are used on humans, antagonist gives a patient extra morphine to kill him.
Worldview- value dinosaur life at the expense of human life at times. Bad guys endanger the world for money.
Educational value- make history references
Discuss- science ethics. What lengths to create? Responsibility for creation and science.
It is such a pity that the Jurassic World novels have only been released in these junior novels and not as full adult novels, which would have been great to read. These short novellas do still tell the basic story which makes them fun one time reads but not going perhaps into the depth of story that the general reader would want. I still very much enjoyed it as a quick read as in my mind I was imagining the actual scenes from the film as I went along. These books are great for kids who love the films and their dinosaurs.
the first part of the movie is these people trying to git the Indominis Rex bone.they got it but then a big thing was behind the sub.second part of the movie was...
