Jay Surti is a coach and trainer, helping professionals enhance their careers through presentation skills and leadership coaching. She regularly speaks on the topics of personal brand and effective communication and is also a member of a University Governing Body in a Non Executive role.
After initially graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering, Jay pursued a career as a lawyer for 17 years before pivoting and choosing to focus on developing expertise in presentation skills.
Jay’s enthusiasm for great presentation skills comes from having a deep seated fear of public speaking for many years which hindered her career progression until eventually she decided to do something about it. Through the process of training and working with some very talented speakers, she discovered tools and techniques to feel more confident when presenting and became fascinated with the process of crafting engaging presentations that make an impact.
When she’s not working or writing, Jay likes to explore history - through reading, travel, guided walks, museums and architecture. She has completed 7 marathons across several countries - usually ending up at the back of the pack and almost every time being beaten by the person in the rhino costume. She hopes to do better next time
I have decided that 2019 is they year I get serious about public speaking. I got a head start with the opportunity to do a last minute presentation a few weeks ago, I had just began reading this book. Though I hadn't read it all when I presented, the information I gleaned was enough to give me some valuable tips. The part on how to answer questions particularly difficult ones was very helpful in feeling prepared. There is so much information here I would recommend using it as a guide and not try to cram it, I will be returning to it regularly. It really does cover everything you need including mindset, body language and ideas to avoid mistakes. The bad habits section made me cringe I know I do some of them, this will be a great reminder. If you want to be a really great presenter - this book is what you need.
