Heroes out of Uniform are Hard, Hot and Sweet With eight years in the Marines, five of them in Special Forces, Lucas Weaver has witnessed too many marriages end in tears. He swears off the idea of his own nuptials until his best friend invites him home to serve as best man.
Now Lucas is face-to-face with Theresa Hale, his best friend’s curvy sister. From protective to passionate, every feeling he’s tried to forget having for Theresa comes rushing back.
Theresa Hale is no shrinking violet. She’s independent—well, she has her own apartment. That counts, right? Oh, and she has two jobs—except she made one up to hide the fact she’s paying the rent by writing dirty, sweet romances. She’s had her share of boyfriends, too, even if they treated her like a safety school—something to get into as a last resort when all the “better” (thinner) girls turn them down.
And, like every modern, independent woman, she has a secret. She’s madly in love with Lucas Weaver. Too bad he’s perfect and her brother’s best friend. ******************** This is a standalone title with no required reading order from among the Heroes out of Uniform books for clarity, However, it includes as secondary characters the lead couple from Curvy When Wet.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
I loved this. I've been waiting fir the sequel to curvy when wet FOREVER. And this did not disappoint. I loved seeing belles best friend Teresa get her HEA and with an amazing man like Lucas. More importantly I loved still following the story of corwin and belle. I'm so happy with this.
This wouldn't annoy me if this book hadn't come highly recommended from 5 out of the seven people on Amazon. If I'd found it and given it a chance, so be it. But it was recommended to me by someone and then confirmed by 5 star reviews. But I have no idea why.
First of all, she, like every other curvy girl I've ever read about, has the self esteem of the ugliest pancake. You know, the horribly misshapen one? It's just upsetting at a certain point because she never actually gets over it, just continues on forward.
And she's horribly selfish and unlikable. This Navy SEAL of your dreams comes home, tells you you're in his prayers while he's overseas doing god-knows what and possibly dying, and you say nothing to him. Because...? No? No reason? Ok. That's fine, I guess.
And there are more than several opportunities for her to stand up for herself and she doesn't. Not at all. And they just pick up where their own crushes ended when they meet and have to put no effort into rediscovering each other. Relearning each other. But the worst part about that is I'm actually not sure this character is a different person since turning 17.
You may think I'm too harsh for a smut book on Amazon. But I believe firmly in holding yourself and your books to a standard. A standard I want upheld because if I pick out a cute book like this from amazon, I expect just that. Not what I got. Read at your own risk.
