I was born and raised in Northcentral Kansas. I'm a farmer's daughter, but I now make my home in the city of Wichita. I'm an RN. Neonatal nursing has been the main focus of my career. What can I say? I love babies. I was invited to the highschool graduation of a baby I took care of. Talk about making me feel old!
In June of 2011 I became a widow after my husband of 36 years and 11 months died from multiple brain tumors. It was a very sad time, but thanks to the three f's, my faith, my family and my friends, life is moving forward. I have four brothers, one daughter and two grandchildren who all work at making me feel loved.
I'm the author of more than 30 books and I'm currently writing a series called The Brides of Amish Country for Love Inspired.
Amish Christmas Joy by Patricia Davids This first book in this anthology was reasonably well written. It was a sweet Amish romance novel with good characters; I especially appreciated the portrayal of Joy, a young girl with Downs Syndrome, as a character. There could have been better character development for both Leah and Caleb, the two main adult characters, though. The romance was too short to be that believable, and what counted as the climax came too quickly. There was potential for a much more solidly told story here, but overall, I liked it, and it made me smile a lot even if Christmas, Joy's wish for a Christmas tree, and the school's Christmas program were all major parts of the plot. It was a lighthearted, fun story for me, but it wasn't great. 3.5 stars
An Amish Proposal by Joann Brown Now, this second half of the anthology was well worth reading. This Amish romance had the depth to it that was missing in the first novel in the anthology, Amish Christmas Joy. It was well written and had good character development. The romance was long enough to be believable, especially considering their past history. I also appreciated that while the approaching Christmas season was given a nod, it wasn't actually part of the plot at all, and the story would have been just as good if it had been set at any other time of the year. It was this second novel that put this anthology squarely onto my favorites list because I truly enjoyed it. 4.5 stars
