Deep Unto Deep: The Journey of the Immeasurable Love of Christ

Rate this book
Above all else, we were made to know a Person—the Lord Jesus—and to know Him deeply. We must see His beauty, encounter His heart, discover His love, and then respond unreservedly to Him. This quest of knowing Him, comprising times of weak prayer, deep joy, desperate hunger, and even seasons that test our love for God, is the highest pursuit and richest fulfillment of our lives.

Amazing book. This really changed my perspective on how a relationship with God should be viewed contrary to the way I have always been taught. I fight with myself on whether or not I like the the way it is written. The writing is VERY poetic and pretty but it sometimes just feels like too much and I just want it to be said in a simpler way. I do think that is partly just my personality though.

I almost DNF’ed this book, but decided to finish it to give it a second chance (and so that I couldn’t be accused of disliking something I didn’t even finish lol). That being said, it was a hard read to finish. I’m not sure if there was much in the book that I hadn’t already read/heard somewhere else, but whatever those parts were, it was really hard to get to them bc of having to trudge through all of the “fluff”. I get the writing style is aiming to be “romantically poetic”, but it was too much, and more came off as cringey. Also, the poetry at the beginning and end of each chapter were rough to try to get through so I mostly skipped them all. My guess is they were supposed to supplement the chapters they were a part of, but I’m very picky about the poetry I actually enjoy reading, so they more felt like someone try to get me to read their stuff they wrote.

I gave it two stars to acknowledge that there were a few parts of this book that were good, but overall what was a 200+ page book would’ve probably been more powerful to me if it was essay-length.
