“Dead Deal” by W.J. Evans follows Julia Hollow, a hot FBI agent, as she is assigned three cases involving three death mysteries to solve. The context of these deaths is the 2008 financial and real estate crisis. Julia Hollow soon finds herself realizing that there might be a connection between the three cases as they were all important business men in the financial world; and that connection, and maybe her suspect, is Frank McCormick – a real estate developer who will end up navigating the story’s intriguing plot of crime, murder and financial chaos. This murder mystery thriller is not all murder and crime…there is also a lot of sensual scenes and tension which complements the roller coaster read.
Evans did an awesome job hooking me as a reader from the beginning of the story, which kept me interested enough to find it difficult to put the book down. The narrator’s voice is engaging, the dialogue and character building genuine, and the characters were interesting and complex. The pace and flow were spot on. The plot twist made it impossible to figure out, yet kept me playing the guessing game all the way. Evans did not disappoint at all, especially in the end…
Overall, I found “Dead Deal” by W. J. Evans to be a five out of five stars entertaining read that will captivate readers from beginning to end, the same way a roller coaster pins riders to their seats. The story’s twists will definitely keep readers turning pages as well as the sensual tension. I recommend this story to all fans of mystery and will definitely be on the lookout for more titles from this author.
You don't have to have lived through the high stakes and politics of commercial real estate to get caught up in the intrigue and plot twists of Dead Deal. If you have ever worked in the commercial real estate industry, you will definitely recognize many of the characters Evans brings to life for the reader. Like any good mystery, there are plenty of villains but I think it's the flawed and complicated heroes that really kept me turning pages. There used to be a saying among folks who tried to make a living in the feast or famine world of commercial real estate; When it's good it's great. When it's bad it's awful. Evans writing clearly shows he's not only seen the good, bad and ugly, he's done a remarkable job of capturing that world...and frankly what I suspect may be a common fantasy for any broker or developer who feels they got "screwed."
The bottom has dropped out of the real estate market in 2008. One day the investor is on top of the world and the next the banker is on the phone wanting his money and the investor does not have it. Two men are murdered and one has disappeared, the common person doing business with each of them is Frank who is deep in debt now. There are many twists and turns to this story. Many characters to investigate but the FBI has zeroed in on just one person. Once you start this book it will be hard to put down.
I'm an avid mystery reader, but this book surprised me with its twists! I kept trying to put the book down, but it compelled me to keep reading on and one to find out what happened! I became attached to the characters, and can't wait to see some of them again!
This is a really tough one to rate. There were parts that kept me interested, and then parts where i was annoyed. The annoying parts seemed like a teenage boys fantasy's with women. Overall, i thought it was an okay book
Dead Deal is a full helping of thriller, with a side of just the right amount of depravity. A real estate crash, murder, and FBI investigations combine to create a honest page-turner, with a twist ending that will leave the reader gasping.
This is the book for you if you love mysteries and thrillers. This book definitely makes you not want to put it down because it takes you on a rollercoaster! For sure a good read!
