Jake Lavelle is an agent of the Compound, a shadowy organization that helps hunted criminals dissapear into thin air.
But what happens when one of those criminals starts making waves in the national media? As a cleaner, it's Jake's job to investigate the situation and, if necessary, make the criminal disappear for good.
In the small town of Crescent Point, Jake will come face to face with an enemy unlike any he's ever faced before, and with the sins he's tried to ignore.
He will discover that sometimes when you dig too deep into the darkness, you find something dragging you further down, and the only escape from the darkness is a desperate scramble toward the light.
The book was okay but it really needed a good editor. I can usually overlook an occasional typo but this book had quite a few which became distracting to me, especially when I had to try to discern what the word was actually supposed to be instead of what was typed.
As for the actual story, it was a bit confusing the way it jumped around. There were a lot of characters introduced, some of which I questioned why. For example, Karen the waitressat the bar. I was led to anticipate a love story developing but it never happened and she disappeared until being dropped into a couple of scenes later on that made absolutely no sense.
The story had great potential but the "twists and turns" just didn't come together as suspensefully as they could have.
The idea behind this story had great potential, but it never went anywhere. The editing was very poor, and in most cases, storytelling jumps from character to character without fully developing any of them. I finished the book only because I hoped that The Compound would finally be explained more completely, but it wasn’t. Very disappointed that this great idea never managed to reach its potential.
Just finished the Kindle edition.. you should pay a good editor/proofreader. The story line suffered for all the errors, omitted words, and extraneous words left over from changes.
Intense characters and storylines. Large cast of characters and often hard to tell the good guys from the bad.Read thius book in one day as it was a real page turner.
