Layla James has been waiting her entire life for a chance to get close to her crush, Dylan. Now that moment has arrived. Dylan is finally single and he's started to notice her existance. He even asked if she was going to Senior Week, the last hoorah at the beach before graduation day. Of course she's going, this was destiny calling. The only problem? She doesn't have a ride.
Unfortunately her irritating and smug archnemesis, Jack Abrams, has the solution. He'll give her the ride she needs... on one condition. If Layla agrees to sing for his band, she'll have her dream vacation with her lifelong crush. But once she's on the road with Jack, nothing goes according to plan. Her first kiss is with the wrong guy, she starts to suspect that her lifelong crush doesn't even know her name, and the guy she's sure she hates turns out to be kind of amazing.
One thing is clear, destiny is not nearly as predictable as one might hope.
What a beautiful story of first love. Layla very much believes in ‘destiny’ and ‘fate’, so when she gets the chance to spend her senior week with her long standing crush, Dylan, life should be grand, right? The only problem is finding a ride and Jack, her arch-nemesis, plans on helping her get to the senior week beach trip, but only if she agrees to sing for his band. What entails these two characters is a funny, lovable adventure that promises to blossom into more. There were a few moments I could have shook Layla to see what’s in front of her, but she needed to follow her gut for once. Jack is one entertaining character with a pretty adorable emotional side.
I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys reading young adult contemporary romance stories.
Senior Week Crush is the second book in the Summer Love series, both complete standalone stories.
This story has too many loopholes to make it sound believable. 1- Why would you fall in love with a character who knows you but barely manages to remember your name and is oblivious to evryone around him 2- Why would Jack expect Dylan to fall for Layla and throw them together every awkward way after having revealed his own feelings for her a long time back. Dylan may be oblivious, but comes across as a decent fellow 3- How would you suddenly give up on a guy you've lusted after for more than 6-7 yrs and fall for someone who annoyed you up until a month ago.
Also, there's no character development or depth perception. There is also no climax, speaking of. Seems to me, Layla would've fallen for anyone worth an ounce of decent experience in the kissing department. 3 start
Great read for YA's! Layla's always had a crush on her next door neighbor Dylan, and when he finally breaks up with his longtime girlfriend, she sees it as fate intervening for them to finally be together! When he asks if she's going to Senior Week down the shore, she says yes, thinking this is their chance to finally get together! Unfortunately she does not have a ride there! Dylan's friend and fellow band member Jack, offers her a ride if she agrees to sing in their band while at Senior Week, to which she agrees. Layla truly believes that they are destined to be together, but does fate actually have other plans for them? Must read to find out!
Maggie Dallen is my new go-to author for the genuine emotional rollercoaster that is young love. I adored her Out of His League and totally identified with the leading character in A Whole New League. So now we have Senior Week Crush. I actually didn’t have one in High School. It didn’t happen till college. Luckily for me it was both reciprocal and something the guy I crushed on did not let sit. I ended up marrying him, and now my own daughter, our eldest, is in University with her own crushes. Bottom line is that I can recall what this all felt like, confusions, joys and pain, and - once again - this author had captured this beautifully.
Senior Week Crush is a fun and fast read about finding your first love. Layla has had a crush on the boy next door for as long as she can remember. When the opportunity to spend senior week with him and his band comes up she jumps at the chance to win him over, the only catch is a ride with Jack. Jack teases Layla at every opportunity he gets and Layla is tired of it, but she can't pass up the chance to be with her crush. What happens when you realize that maybe you have been crushing on the wrong guy all along? This was a cute read that can be read in one sitting, probably a 3 1\2 star but I rounded up! Definitely worth the read!
Layla only has eyes for Dylan. Major crush alert! She is convinced fate will bring them together. But to get to her destiny, she has to make a deal with the ‘devil’: Jack, whom she actively dislikes.
I liked Layla. She’s relatable. I loved the book and I thought it had just the right ratio of inner dialogue and things happening. An engaging, sweet, and cute love story with a good flow and a good pace. I’m not sure if everyone in the target group will understand the Lay Lady Lay reference though ;)
Ok I will start by saying I have a 17 year old daughter (clue to my age). I was bored one weekend and kept looking for something to read, and nothing peaked my interest. I was straightening up my daughters room and saw this book and thought why not, not expecting much. Well I was wrong, it is about being a Teenager, but the characters were well developed, likable with flaws. It was a fun read, I just wish I could know what happened to the two main characters.
Layla has had a long time crush on Dylan and thinks destiny is smiling on her during her upcoming Senior Week. But it goes wrong when her ride to Senior Week is Jack, smirking, annoying, mocking Jack. However Layla starts seeing Jack differently when he invites her to play in the band with him, Dylan and Herman. This story was an entertaining read showing how getting to know someone through life moments and other people opinions can change your perspective on crushes, love interests, friendships and school acquaintances.
Cute and fun YA romance full of high school drama and unrequited crushes. Layla is ready for her one true love Dylan to finally notice her and start their great love story but first she need to get close to Dylan. In comes Jack the jerk that always makes fun of her but maybe being around Jack will change her out look on who the right guys is for her. Loved Jacks character cocky at times but adorable with his crush definitely five stars!!
"I liked this guy. I truly liked him - not like some crush who I'd thought was perfect. I'd gotten to know the real Jack - the guy whose laugh made me want to laugh, whose teasing brought me out of my shell, the guy who gave me his sweatshirt to make sure I was warm, who gave me that smirk that made my insides twist with longing, the guy who saw my inner rock star goddess before I even had an inkling she existed. The guy who saw me when I'd done my best to be invisible."
This is the 3rd book I hVe read by this author. As always with her other 2 books, this novel is a clean teen with a happy ending. Loved the story, but the pacing seemed off. Also, as with the previous 2 books there are some grammatical errors that made what the author was trying to say confusing. Recommend for students grade 7 and up.
This book was phenomenal! I loved the characters and their chemistry, how Layla discovers more about herself through this journey, and the glimpses into Dylan's and jack's personalities that make them 3D. I loved this story so much that I instantly wanted to read it again to see if I missed anything the first time around. I'll definitely check out Ms. Dallen's other works!
Another cute and short 'Senior Week' read. I love how Maggie Dallen can conjure up those (in my case) long-gone days of high school, first crushes, and ALL THE FEELINGS. ;) Layla and Jack make a cute sort-of-enemies-to-lovers couple, and the description of Dylan and Stephanie as the equivalent human Golden Retrievers (pretty, friendly, though maybe not that smart...) cracked me up. :)
She was selfish and only cared about herself and being with a guy who can't see her for her. I had a hard time reading this book there was just so mutch DRAMA in this book. I skipped more then I read. ( And I skipped A lot of pages ), I like Maggie Dallen's books but this one is my least favorite book of hers ( and out of this book series)
The writer has a very good understanding of the angst that is involved in teenage love as well as all the second guessing that they do in navigating the teenage life.
I liked how the characters interacted and the growth. You gotta find someone who sees you and loves you into a better person. Cute, clean, and makes you happy to fall in love.
I enjoyed this story .the negative Is her inner thoughts were verbatim a few times (like copy and pasted it seemed) also main character was made out to seem really young and naive in certain parts but older teenager in other parts.
Cute high school romance. Our leading man is probably more mature for an 18 year old than is realistic, but still very sweet. Overall, a nice break from my dystopian, fantasy, sci fi favorites.
