Freedom must come first.

David Miller leads a team back to the Sol system to discover what has become of his home planet. But first comes Mars, and first comes freedom. The people of Mars suffer under the yoke of a despotic dictator, and the newcomer’s arrival triggers a slow-burning revolution to explode into violence.

About the author

Dennis Ingram

8 books19 followers
Dennis Ingram was born in 1963 and developed an insatiable appetite for anything relating to rockets and space, and needless to say followed the Apollo program with a passion.
He read every science fiction book in his local library, growing up on a diet of Andre Norton, E. E. 'Doc' Smith, Clifford D. Simak, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark and other iconic science fiction authors.
He wrote science fiction stories in school notebooks when he was a boy, but as he grew up he put those away and switched to writing in computer languages instead. He kept reading though, hundreds and hundreds of books, especially science fiction, and never stopped dreaming. One day, he started to write those dreams down.

Still a good story, but gradually changing from a science based tale of human expansion into a kind of military adventure. I hope the next book returns to the winning formula.
Lastly, I have to say I'm a bit concerned at how often the author uses rape or the threat of rape to convey danger for female characters. I appreciate that this happens in wartime, but one reference is enough, it doesn't need to be trotted out so often.

Another Great Read

The story just keeps getting better and better. Dennis has created great base characters and in this book brings a solid ensemble cast. Full of twists and turns. Highly recommend.

I felt the premise of this book was a little forced. It is perhaps more of an action adventure than the first in the series.
