From the outside looking in Imani Jones has it all, a booming career as a professional make-up artist, nice car, house, money all the things a girl wants including her boyfriend of five years Zion. Zion runs the city and everything involving Imani. Imani is the epitome of perfection. Beneath the glamour is so much pain from losing her parents at fifteen, a strained relationship with her only sister Taysani Jones, and emotional and physical abuse from the man she loves most Zion who has a few demons of his own that he hides from everyone. Ya’Semi is a retired dealer who groomed his brother to run their operation passed down by their father. Still overseeing the Ramsey Family Operation, he comes to town to confront an issue with his brother. One night out brings Imani and Ya’Semi together. Dealings between Zion and Ya’Semi get nasty and both are out for different levels of revenge. Ya’Semi wants Imani’s heart and will stop at nothing to protect her or could it be Imani doing the protecting? You can only mask your pain for so long and when one snaps all hell breaks loose. With everyone out for revenge, blood will shed and tears will fall.
This book was grade A awesome. Imani went through hell with Zion. I wanted to kick his but myself. Thank goodness Daisy was there to help her because she went through the same thing.
Masking My Pain is the first book I've read from this author and it was a good read. My heart felt bad for Imani and Taysani but I in no way agree with how and what Taysani did to Imani. There are some lines that should never be crossed. I had my likes and dislikes when it came to both of them. I wanted to throat punch Imani every time she opened her mouth to defend what Zion did. However, I absolutely enjoyed Daisy. Ya and Joc were good characters, Chad was a whole trip out here. This story was one full of secrets, twists and turns, betrayal, backstabbing and controlling men throughout the whole story. Near the ending of the story it became a bit predictable but overall this story was worth reading at least once.
I've never read a book by this author before but it won't be the last one I read. I loved Imani and Ya together. I didn't like how he didn't tell her about the money by u was glad that everything either itself out for them. In the beginning I couldn't stand Zion but that twist that came along I wasn't expecting it at all but I grew to like him because I have knew somebody like him in real life. Imani sister baby, with a sister like that you don't need no enemy's. Daisy was a true friend she came along right on time for Imani. I wonder what happened to Chad? Great book
I was enjoying this read in the beginning, but it seemed to change course into something that became unbelievable and irrelevant. Then there was the thing with relationships with your brother's or sister's ex. How small is Nashville? Becoming a drug lord with no background? Then, homosexuality? Just way too much. And it needs a good edit. I read this book because I had just finished the author's '5 Miles Until Empty' and wanted to try another of her works - this one was a disappointment.
This was my first time reading this author’s work and she brought me to tears. This book has so much roller coasters, with drops and turns that you do not expect. I probably put this book down 5 times in the time frame of reading it. I must say there are minor errors in the book but nothing you can’t skip over and continue. I love Ya and Daisy is a mess. Keep up the great work
It was a good book but I didn’t agree with taysani going to jail for killing her molester and the person who was supposed to protect her maybe she should have let her mother live but the father Naww he deserved to be gone maybe she should be in jail for what she did to her sister but not the molester I’m sry u should have thought more on that honey but good book nevertheless…..
I read this book in one day! Well, in one setting! I picked it up and didn’t put it back down. This is my first time reading this author but it won’t be my last! The storyline was DOPE!! I’m definitely team Imani and Ya!! 💯 I’m glad everyone got wtf they had coming!!!! Loved it!!
I loved how Imani bossed up on everybody, and how Daisy and Imani became friends and Daisy helped her! I thought Daisy was going to ride for her brother but she knew he was wrong. This was my first book by you and I will be going through your catalog!
I choose my rating because I felt it being real.A lot of people don't believe it's really stuff like this that goes on in real life but it do. I really really really enjoyed this book
This was such a page Turner it had drama excitement. I loved ya he was my favorite character I am glad that he didn't really die in the plane crash and imani and ya had a second chance to get things right. Good job to the Author
This book has sent me on a emotional roller coaster but it was worth it. I am not a book reader but this book was excellent. To the author we need a part 2 and a movie.
This author did it again and I must say it was kinda sad in the beginning but it all ended well and she forgave Zion. Her sister had so much amosity in her heart, but she made sure her, Cita and her uncle got their justice at her hands.
It's sad that Imani and her mom did the same. But Imani wasn't being sneaky. Her sister Taysani and Cita and they daddy got what they deserve. Zion should of gotten more pain. I am happy Imani and Ya got together
This book was so good. Those twists and turns in this book was everything. All that Imani went through was crazy. Her sister was something else. How she blamed everyone else for her issues was crazy to me.
This is a really good read for a standalone.Hope you all take the time out and read it, enjoy it. It kept me on the end of my seat waiting to see what happen next. It got the drama for you. But it a wonderful book.
This was a great story domestic violence is no joke I have witness people go through it that was a great story to teach people that they can over come abuse
