Else Holmelund Minarik was the author of the Little Bear series of children's books, which were successful as books, and were also made into a successful children's TV series. The Little Bear books sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.
Else Minarik was also the author of another well-known book, No Fighting, No Biting!
She was born in Denmark, and with her family immigrated to the United States at the age of four. After she graduated from Queens College, City University of New York she became a journalist for the Rome Daily Centennial newspaper and taught first-graders during WWII. This is my favorite kind of picture book to read to my five year old. Simple, fun, makes you laugh and smile. I feel the same as these cats when spring finally arrives!
"It's Spring" by Else Holmelund Minarik is about two cats who are extremely happy that it is now spring time. The two cats are Pit and Pat. They talk about how they are so happy that they could jump over everything.
I think this is a great book for children who are in the beginning stages of learning how to read books. They will enjoy it and also find humor to seeing the cats jump over the moon, sun and etc. The book can also brighten up a child's day if they are feeling down because the characters are very happy. I think the illustration was the same on every page. I think the illustrator could have added more differences and details to the illustrations.
The story is cute--two cats celebrating spring--but the illustrations were awful. The cats looked like striped lions! Their heads had manes that looked like cotton balls pasted around their heads and their ears were rounded, like a lion's. Disappointing.
