I find it hard to say much here. The book is very much a novelization of a movie of the same name and reads like it. Not as much detail as I would have liked. To my regret, I still have not seen the movie but will make a point to do so soon. All in all, a good story of the portrayal of the Cajuns of South Louisiana and how they’ve been viewed in a modern lens. Pitre does good work in that regard, along with his more folklore-oriented work.
Set in pre-Civil War 18th century, Glen Pitre has captured the Cajun personality to a T. Fun-loving and mischievous, not much seems to be able to diminish the Cajun joie de vivre.
Meh. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. I'm not sure if this was written before or after the movie was made, but it reads like a novelization of a movie.
