My life has always been a bit cursed. To keep some stability, I try to focus on three things:
1. Taking care of my sisters 2. Getting good grades so I can get into a decent college. 3. Drag racing.
I don’t have time for anything else, especially guys and dating. But then my dad moves us to the rural town of Honeyton, and right next door to the Porterson brothers, and just like that, my cursed life becomes even more cursed.
The Porterson brothers are all gorgeous and arrogant and won’t leave me alone. That’s okay, though. I’m going to get them back.
Or so I plan to.
But during my endeavor for revenge, I find out the Porterson brothers aren’t what they seem. They’re dangerous, a little bit—okay, a lot—insane, and I’m pretty sure they’re not human, since I caught them drinking souls.
Maybe I’m going crazy. Doesn’t really matter. Now that I’ve learned their secret, they’re not about to let me go.
Jessica Sorensen is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author from the snowy mountains of Wyoming. When she's not writing, she spends her time reading and hanging out with her family.
Very good book. A little short but very intriguing. I really enjoy Hadley her character is extremely strong. Even with all the very real adult issues she has to deal with, she is not a whiny teenage. She accepts her responsibilities with no complaints.
I am looking forward to finding out what the dad knows because of course he knows something.
I have to say, althouh this is not necessarily a bad raed and the storyline is pretty good and nicely written, I find Hadley’s character anoying with her denial verging on the ridiculous. This constant denial is one of the reasons I did some serious skimming in this novel.
So, okey. Apparently, moving at least twice a year makes it difficult to form any sort of attachments, so the Harlyton sisters don't even try anymore. Since their father is a drunk and spends the majority of his time in a bar, it falls on Hadley (the oldest) to take care of her sisters as much as she can. But that becomes a little hard to do when they move next door to a pack of assholes, who seem to have taken special interest in Hadley.
Well, Jessica Sorensen always knew how to spin a pretty tale. All of her books are always interesting and easy to read and this one was no exception. I knew that it was gonna be a paranormal story, but I did not expect this sort of twist on it. I'm still a little confused about everything that has taken place, but I'm definitely interested in reading more.
I am such a sucker for hot bad boys. And Hadley wasn't so bad herself. I just hope Ms. Sorensen can publish the second book faster so that I indulge in my book consuming ways :) I always go super quickly through her books. That's a curse and a blessing all in one.
I like that this book wasn't rushed in the storyline. The characters are being developed well. I like the dynamic in the relationships and can't wait to see how they develop further. I also like that Hadley isn't automatically accepting of them either, I hate when the girl falls immediately. I am worried about when I'll see the next book tho. I feel like Jessica Sorensen has too many ideas and maybe she spits out more storylines than she can handle. That being said, I've read the majority of her books and will continue to.
This Book, the start of a new series, it’s dynamic, growing characters and their development, I’m intrigued and looking forward to seeing where this series goes.
Hadley, raising herself and her sisters, finding their way through the world. Hadley is strong and resilient and she’s s character I’m looking forward to learning more about !
And then there’s the Poterson Brothers from next door .......
This is going to be an interesting series. I like Hadley and I really like the boys next door. The concept of the book is really interesting too. I don't want to say too much because you need to read it but Hadley finds out there's more to her being 'cursed' than she could ever imagine. Now she's got to decide if the help from the neighbor boys is worth it.
I really love the characters so far and can not wait for book 2. The author has taken me to a world I have never read about before and I’m loving every minute of it.
I received this as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was THRILLED when I opened my email to find it there, I'm a huge lover of Jessica Sorensen and have been reading her work for years. But I must say, that this didn't feel like a Sorensen book. It lacked the edge of sophistication I've come to associate with her work, and much of it felt rushed and disconnected, like the fill in to change this to a reverse harem and impact the story was just that. Though I haven't read the original, so maybe that one read the same way. I also took issue with the little pieces of missed proofreading. Another good, thorough edit would have done this book well.
Hadley is the eldest of 4 trouble making sisters, though that's not their faults. Left behind to their drunken father when their mother died, they've pretty much raised themselves and had too many hardships in the process. They're foul mouthed (which I don't mind one bit), spunky, feisty and thieving, but they do it to hang in there and keep a roof over their heads. They've moved more times than they could count for the same reason, something that's about to happen again.
Enter the Porterson brothers. Every bit the equal to Hadley and her sisters but with a dangerous secret. No one gets off on the right foot and chaos ensues, but it has little to do with anything anyone could dream of.
I won't spoil much more of the book. The banter in this series is delightful and I find myself rooting for Hadley. I enjoy her spirit and bravado and refusal to back down. For the same reason I also love Blaise, though I'm inclined to be on Rhyland's side because he has more of a kind soul feel (though that can often change). I do think that some of the language could be better placed, some of it feels like it's added to be added and keep the rolling going but it doesn't make sense in it's placement in several parts of the book. Sometimes it needed to be switched with other words to flow better and others it shouldn't have been there at all.
Overall, this is definitely a series I will be reading, and I've already purchased the original version of this story and will be reading that as well. The story line is well thought out and keeps you interested and the characters are built and described well enough to give a clear picture in your mind that holds there through the book. I would have rated this 5 stars but for the frustration in plowing through the places of immaturity and awkwardly placed language I noted before. Also that last sweep of editing that this book needed, not as much as others I've read recently, but certainly there.

For Hadley – taking over as the parent figure in her household comes with its own set of challenges. Always trying to find a way to make sure her siblings have food, power, and a roof over their heads is the biggest obstacle in her life. With a father who spends more time at a bar than working, Hadley struggles to be the one her siblings turn to when things go wrong.
The latest move for the family lands them in Honeyton. A run down house in the string of less than stellar dwellings that the family has lived within. Things take an interesting turn when Hadley butts heads with the Porterson brothers who reside next door. A set of siblings that would make any girl swoon, but Hadley seems to be immune to their ‘charms’.
A few choice with one of the Porterson brothers lands Hadley in a world of turmoil. Leaving Hadley and her sisters scrambling to overcome the obstacles these brothers are throwing their way. Hadley quickly realizes that something isn’t quite right with the town renegades, and is determined to uncover their secrets. A plan for revenge that goes way off base leads Hadley down a road that she never saw coming.
First let me say how excited I was that Jessica Sorensen was mixing a little paranormal with the reverse harem trope. Enticing…right??? The minute Cursed Hadley landed on my device, I dove in head first. What I found was a definitely creative world that kept me glued to my reader.
Hadley’s character is full of sass which drew me in with her witty comebacks and strength. Then along comes the Porterson brothers. My oh my….don’t they add a ton of mystery, mayhem and madness to this journey?? In an attempt to not spill my guts with the plot, I will simply say that Sorensen has once again captured my attention with such creativity in her writing. Honeyton has never been the same since the Porterson brothers came to town. Now – Hadley is in town to shake things up even further!! At the center of it all is a curse that will surprise everyone!!
This was soooooo amazing!!! Jessica you absolutely killed this book. People let me tell you don't pick this book up unless you have absolutely nothing left on your plate because you are not gonna be able to put it down. Hence how I almost pulled an all nighter. I cant pick out anything that I specifically love because I love absolutely everything about it. From the relationship with her dad to the bond she has with her sisters its just AMAZINGGG. I've never read a book about the grim reaper especially never read a book about four hot as hell (no pun intended) grim reapers but Jessica really made it work. I cant wait to see how Hadley and her grim reaper hotties are gonna bond in the second book! I don't have much patience but you know what they say "The longer it takes to happen, the more you'll appreciate it when it does". Cant wait till Charmed Hadley! Thank you Jessica for this amazing series I don't even want to think about life without it!
It flowed from the first page! This is the lengthened story - so a full book (rather than the other named one which is a novella with a cliff hanger- so make sure you get the right one!!).
I love Hadley and am finding her character intriguing and all her different layers are being peeled back slowly and in time with the story (so we as readers don't get to know too early!).
The Portersmouth brothers are a very interesting group of....beings?
The descriptions for them are great and the only thing i do have to complain about is the fact is called a "Reverse Harem"....and we have no hotter action than kissing!!!!! And I have a feeling these guys could steam up the windows!!!!🔥🔥
A ton of open storylines left to discover and is left on a total cliff hanger so you have been warmed!!!! But I really enjoyed it!!!! What would make this so much better is to step it up from higher YA to maybe adult so we can enjoy some sizzlin!!!!!!😉👌
This book is crazy unique with its concept! There really wasn’t a single aspect of this book that I didn’t immensely enjoy, except that the ending was a bit anticlimactic.
The characters are all amazing. Hadley is this tough MC who’s obviously had a rough time of it, and it shows in her interactions with others. Her sisters are all interesting characters that I really wanted to read more about. And the Porterson brothers, are all sorts of dark deliciousness!
The story itself is well written, and you can tell that for the most part a lot of thought was put into it. I say for the most part, because that ending was seriously anticlimactic. Something occurs that you think will be this big battle, and it does occur...but the reader doesn’t see it. Hadley is whisked away as it starts and then just hears about it vaguely later. It was so disappointing.
Seriously jonesing for that next book now!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There are so many aspects to this book that I loved: family, romance and banter/flirting.
This is special because both the H and h have very interesting family dynamics filled with love, bickering and a bond unbreakable. It's amazing to read about because it just makes you happy to read about family.
Now while there is a twist, due to its reverse harem nature, I am rooting for Blaise and Hadley because *swoon* he's incredible and their relationship is just lovely to read about.
You are left wanting more of the banter and flirts between Blaise, Hadley and their siblings. I love it, it's hysterical.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun book filled with mystery, romance and a reverse harem twist.
***I was kindly given an ARC in exchange for a review***
Compared to the average vampire, werewolves, fairies, witches, and other magical beings. For a series to center around a group of Grim Reapers it was interesting. I liked the MC how and the group of guys so far really seem to care for her. I'm not head over heals over the series, but overall it kept we entertained and I want to see what happens with her and the guys.
The MC has a deadbeat dad and 3 other sisters she takes care of. she moves to a new town again next door to 4 assholes who are mean to her at first. then we discovered she had a curse on her and the guys bind their souls or something to hers to save her and she essentially dies and to complete her transition she needs to drink their souls. We discover her dad and sisters are not related to her. Now the guys are trying to who is trying to kill her.
Okay so I like the way Jessica Sorensen writes. Her characters and plot are usually intriguing and fun and her books are usually well written (still a few typos and grammatical errors here and there). My big problem with her is I feel like she just churns out a huge number of short ... episodes ? They’re not really books and she’s releasing so many for so many different series, it takes her forever to finally finish a series with how many she’s releasing. And then inevitably like with this book she ends up ‘rereleasing’ a book with a change in plot (ember/ember x) or she just combines her small episode like books and makes 1 normal sized book (bad boy rebels).
Sooooo my point is for goodness sakes take more time write a well edited lengthy novel and finish one series before you start on 8 more.
I'm not sure if I like it or hate this book. So I'm guessing Hadley is a emotional teenager because she was conflicting the heck out of me, She comes off so strong but then as she continues on i become less impressed with her overall. Making excuses for her father but wants to fight creepy brothers on sisters behalf? She's seems so head strong and feisty at times, and doubting and lusty in others. Her character was giving me a serious case of freaking whiplash. I wanted to like her, I really did, but I just couldn't. I also felt like the book was to fast, I mean don't get me wrong I liked it, but maybe slow down a little, I mean where's the fire, could have been better developed
I tossed up between 2 and 3 stars - so it’s really a 2.5 from me. Where do I start? I liked the book - maybe not loved it but I feel I could have, if there was a little bit more depth to the character, world building and editing. There was a lot going on, but not a lot going anywhere at times and then- ‘boom’ - lots of info dumping. This is when it felt forced to me. I really get that it is the first in a series and we need to meet the characters and get to know them a bit and get the background stories etc etc.. but it took nearly the whole book to do this and I still have some gaping holes, which I hope will be filled with the next book. I’m not giving up on this series, yet, as there is loads of potential for a really good series.
I'm a light lover of Jessica Sorensen books. I knew going into this what to expect: far too short of a book but an addicting storyline none the less. That's exactly what I got. Hadley's life has been curse ever since she was little but she doesn't know why. She always thought she was just clumsy and such, refusing to ever believe in spells, demons or other things magical. It's not until the millionth move of her lifetime to Honeyton that she begins to find out who she truly is but not without the help of three sexy brothers who live next door to her. I really enjoyed this one, I just absolutely hate the long waits and extremely short stories.
Just finished book one and can not wait to read book to it’s really good for the start a little short but awesome she is bad ass and come in who dosnt love a grim reaper story took me an hour and half to read and am downloading the other book soon soooooo good the only problem I have with t is she comes off as really badass but sometime really contradicts herself which is a bummer that’s the reason I knocked a star off
Cursed Hadley is the story of Hadley, a soon to turn 18 year old, and her tough life of taking care of her sisters after her Mom passed away and her Dad stopped caring. The family moves to a new town and with the move comes new mysterious neighbors. Jessica Sorensen has a writing style that draws a reader in and keeps them enthralled throughout. There were a lot of proofreading errors that made me cringe. Overall, I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I read the first edition n like it but now I love it.
When it first came out I rally liked it and was waiting for the sec book. Then I saw that it got upgraded to a longer book. And now I love it. I couldn't put it down. It was amazing. The story is longer it explains so much more. I can't wait till the next book I'm hoping it's a long book. And Hadley can get to know the brothers n leather feelings out. And she learns what she needs to learn.
Sorenson is a good writer but THIS is what I absolutely hate about modern book series. You get what's barely a character intro, very little world building, a sprinkle of a minor threat and bam story over. I feel no attachment for any of the characters. Instead I feel like I've read a short story, and while it was mildly pleasant, I have no desire to forge on to another half hour read.
Reading this I felt like I cooked a pot of chunky beef stew but I only got a bowl of watery broth.
I thoroughly enjoyed cursed Hadley but found myself needing and wanting more. I love the mysterious boys, and would love more insight into them. Hadley is a strong and likable character. I love the banter between herself and the boys, I found myself smiling on more than one occasion. The only downside to the book is your left needing more!!
