Dick and Jane see something funny. Come and see what's funny.
According to Children's Literature, Briefly, picturebooks much like other genres, are divided into subcategories. This particular book is a predictable book. These picture books are characterized by repeated language patterns, story patterns, or other familiar sequences. I chose this book for being a predictable book as the language is repetitive. This book is built for early and beginning readers and shows that through the language being used. "Look, Dick. Look, Look." (Something Funny. Pg. 8)
Future Educators! There really isn't an activity really centered around this. I personally learned how to read using these books and was significantly more advanced than the others students in my class. This is the perfect set of basal books to use for guided reading in your classroom!
Something Funny(Read With Dick and Jane)by Pearson Scott Foresman is a classic of the children's learning experience. For my full review go to http://letterstocassiandotherfolks.bl...
I won't review each of these. My five star rating is because I taught my children to read with the Dick and Jane collection, for all of those who would turn down their noses at them. My children, two adult and one child, are all excellent and avid readers, some of the best read people you will meet. These and Dr. Seuss books did it for them (yes, I homeschooled for a time)
Another of the Dick and Jane series, this book is very repetitious and introduces students to common everyday words including those related to play. This book has the baby covering the kitten with powder, which is not as strong of a subject as other books in the series and may be a bit more obscure for children. Still the books can be readily understood and include terms all children should know.
Simple reader great for beginners and those still building their skills. Starts out really basic and gets a little harder as the "chapters" progress. Short book, most likely sections of the old readers broken down into smaller books.
Duck and Jane books are classic beginner readers for a reason. The word progression is easy flowing and there is enough repetition to help cement new words into young minds. All of my kids have lived Dick and Jane when they started reading.
Notes: these are the best early readers available repetitive vocabulary with family-based 'stories' beautiful illustrations (maybe not a 5 star book but in this category these books shine!)
