Umaru’s world is starting to expand! A coke spill catastrophe leads to a day out at a manga café, and then her dreams of lunchtime pizza are dashed when Ebina shows up with a bag of super high-quality rice. Can Umaru survive a junk food-free meal? Or is she doomed to a lunch of pain and home-cooked suffering?
World: The art is fantastic, so emotive. World building is deceptive, it's basic but there are these small little pieces that are created to make Umaru's world her own, the stuff with mum and also Akita come to mind.
Story: Small little sloce of life tales again that make you smile. Umaru's the main foil and it's fun. I really liked the small little emotions that this book plays with.
Characters: Taihei gets some depth this time and I enjoy that. So does Ebina and Keireii it's good.
Meh, this volume didn’t do much for me. Umaru’s antics are just driven by pure selfishness most of the time, and I’m starting to feel bad for her brother. But onward we go!
Really cute shorts, but there doesn't seem to be much hope of development three volumes in so I most likely will not be collecting any further volumes. Just not the sort of genre I enjoy!
Can manga cafes please come to America? Because as an introvert otaku, that sounds like heaven. Also, I want a kotatsu sooo bad! They look so comfy!
But I'm also liking that we're getting an expanded cast. Umaru is friends with Ebina and Kirie. But we find out that Kirie's older brother is Taihei's coworker and school friend. But Taihei also has a female coworker/school friend who (most likely) has a crush on him. And now we've also got a couple more iterations of Umaru: outside, inside (Komaru), and UMR.
It’s been a while since I read the other volumes and watched the anime, but it wasn’t hard to get back into the characters. It’s just cute little slices of life with nice art. I could’ve used some translation notes at the end for a couple things but not knowing what some things were wasn’t too distracting from the story.
Soo Umaru still hasn't showed any progress of change (especially with wasting Oni-chan's money on 7 hours manga cafe just to only spend 3 hours at the cafe and claiming that it's okay) not to mention that Kirie-chan entered the house without any invite. Two stars is for not making the video game players unique (calling out the Ash dude, seriously?)
