Getting Hitched #1

Just One of the Groomsmen

Rate this book
Addison Murphy is the funny friend, the girl you grab a beer with—the girl voted most likely to start her own sweatshirt line. And now that one of her best guy friends is getting married, she’ll add “groomsman” to that list, too. She’ll get through this wedding if it’s the last thing she does. Just don’t ask her to dive for any bouquet.

When Tucker Crawford returns to his small hometown, he expects to see the same old people, feel comfort in the same old things. He certainly doesn’t expect to see the nice pair of bare legs sticking out from under the hood of a broken-down car. Certainly doesn’t expect to feel his heart beat faster when he realizes they belong to one of his best friends.

If he convinces Addie to give him a chance, they could be electric…or their break-up could split their tight-knit group in two.

Hiding the way he feels from the guys through bachelor parties, cake tastings, and rehearsals is one thing. But just as Tucker realizes that Addie truly could be the perfect woman for him—he was just too stupid to realize it—now she’s leaving to follow her own dreams. He’s going to need to do a lot of compromising if he’s going to convince her to take a shot at forever with him—on her terms this time.

Favorite Quotes:

The thing about this particular group of ladies was the way they could lob implications and casually insult you, their sugary-sweet smiles never leaving their lips.

You know, sometimes I think it’s sad that no matter how much makeup people put on, it doesn’t make their soul any prettier. Then again, it’s always nice to spot those people right away.

About as subtle as a gorilla wearing high heels in a bowling alley.

“I’d recommend a thong, too, to avoid panty lines.” Right. Because what was missing from this whole experience was a tiny strip of fabric riding up her ass. That way, when she inevitably tripped on her heels, she could expose her bottom half to the entire wedding party. Hey, maybe then the townsfolk and her friends would acknowledge she was a girl!

Her sexual experience was best summed up as few and far between, and even the during was nothing to brag about.

If you think what we’ve been doing is convenient, you need a vocabulary lesson.

If great-Nonna Cavalli rolled over in her grave as much as Nonna Lucia claimed, the groundskeeper at the cemetery would’ve called in those hot brothers from Supernatural by now.

My Review:

My first experience reading and comedic words of Cindi Madsen and I picked an excellent starting point, although now I want to go backward in time and read every book she has ever put out. And, oh my, she has put out quite a long list already, where have I been? I adored this effervescent group of friends and envied their tight bonds and respect for each other. The large cast of characters was well delineated, highly endearing, and cleverly amusing as they often engaged in flinging zingers and whip-smart banter. The storylines were fresh and entertaining and sparkled with wit and irreverent levity as well as quirky small-town observations and eccentricities. It is always a good day when I can add a new favorite to the top of my list of authors to stalk.

Just One of the Groomsmen by Cindi Madsen

Things are changing for Tucker and Addie. And between them.
Friends to lovers story. A charming contemporary romance filled with poignant moments of self awareness and changing emotions.

Addie has been a tomboy all her life. Her best friends are the four men she grew up with. She plays football, plays poker and generally feels the most comfortable with them. But now that one of the four is getting married, she’ll need to wear a dress and heels to the wedding and take dancing lessons. It’s a new experience for her. But once Tucker catches a glimpse of her legs under a car, he suddenly sees the sexy female instead of his best friend.

Excerpt:
“You look great,” he said, and it warmed her from the inside out, even though she told herself she’d asked, and he’d simply answered a question. The “you look like you,” he added left her wondering what exactly that meant. Of course she looked like herself.
When she caught her reflection in the window of Ford’s truck, she decided that for all Tucker’s talk about not liking having to lie, he was a big fat liar. The last word she’d use to describe the girl in the reflection with the grass-stained clothes and lopsided ponytail was “great.”
Not that she cared.
She used to not care.”

If you are looking for a book that makes you smile and gives you the warm fuzzies, then this is definitely the book for you!

This is a cute, fun best friends to lovers romance that takes place in Uncertainty, a small town in Alabama. Addison is just one of the guys, in fact, her best friends are all guys. Now one of the guys is getting married and asks Addison to be one of his groomsmen. Tucker is one of Addison's best friends. He moved away to become a lawyer, now he's back in town and finds himself looking at Addison in a different light. He just needs to convince Addison to give him a chance and take a shot at long-lasting love... but could this love story split their close knit circle of friends?

I loved the story even though it was predictable... plus, you really feel the chemistry between the main characters. This would make a great summer read - highly recommended!

“Somewhere better than being with you? I’m not sure that exists.”

5+ stars read for me!!

I LOVED this friends to lovers story. This is my first book by Cindi Madsen and her writing style sucked me in from the get-go. Despite not having much in common with tomboy Addison Murphy, I immediately bonded with her and felt her vulnerability so acutely, which is not an easy feat for a story told in the third person.

“His name is Flash.”
“Oh, is that because he’s so fast?”
Gaze locked on to Addie’s, he said, “Sure. One of the reasons anyway.”
She shook her head and lost her battle to hold back her smile”

Addie and Tucker, along with Ford, Eason and Shep had been best friends since childhood. It was only after Tucker had moved away for several years and then returned to Uncertainty that both of them started to notice their feelings changing. Both had insecurities, stemming from different issues, that interfered with what should have been an easy path from friendship to love.

“Why would you care?”
“You know why. We’ve been dancin’ around it for a while, but I doubt you’ve failed to notice that something’s changin’ between us.”

I think what I loved most about this story was that there were so many layers. It wasn’t just about Addie and Tucker and finding their way to a happily ever after. Both Addie and Tucker had major issues about their careers and paths in life. Addie had complex family relationships that centred around her feeling very responsible for looking after people, especially her nonna. Layer all of those things in with their group of friends and worry about how a relationship could impact it and you had a mind field of issues to navigate through. This made for a more in depth and enjoyable story.

I’m so happy to have been introduced to this author’s work and can’t wait to read more by her!

I got bored. It doesn't help that both main characters are generic with nothing really drawing them together. I mean, they're friends, I guess, but you don't see them sharing confidences or supporting one another emotionally (and at this point, both have had instances where they might have done). But worse, there's this cloud of negative motivation* putting a bunch of friction on the plot already and that doesn't look like it'll improve soon.

But worse than all that, Tucker has already asked Addie to get the number of the brunette hottie in the wedding party so he can take his mind off of having seen Addie's scrumptious gams. So it's literally him going "I don't wanna think about how hot my friend is, so I'll bone it out with the other hot chick to take the edge off." Which makes him a giant jerk to both women (even if that's only in his mind so far).

And now I've talked myself into actually rating this one star where before I was just going to quit without prejudice. Sigh.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

Cindi Madsen is the queen of feel good books. She writes these amazing characters that I can relate too, and feel for. This is the perfect vacation read, fun, uplifting, sexy and filled with good vibes.

This book centers around a man Tucker, who left his small town to practice law at a big city law firm only to find it didn't make him happy. He moves back home and runs into a pair of sexy legs sticking out from under a car that happen to belong to his childhood BFF and one of "the boys". This attraction just can't be, it might ruin their group dynamic, right? Addie, the girl with the legs is a tomboy to the bone. She has some tingly feelings of her own that don't go with the BFF one of the boys history. On top of that one of the boys is getting married and he wants Addie to be a "Groomsman", which is why she was wearing the dress under the car. The struggle is real, trying to stay in the friend zone while the tingles are happening and getting stronger. Fun times, watching them fight not to cross lines, knowing it's inevitable. These two fight a good snarky fight.

The other characters in the book all support the story perfectly. Each character's personality was developed and each had their own little moments. The friendship tis group has is so positive and uplifting.

Feel good baby ! Yes I ended it with a smile.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Wow, I tried till 45% but I can't read this any further... This is just not getting any better.

And what the hell is with the "I am not like other girls" mentality? Are we supposed to think it's so cool? I had to check if I wasn't reading some old book.

"Since her fear of alligators was one of the few semigirly things about her, persuading her to go out on the water with him would be the hardest part."

"I hate feeling weak. Hate feeling like a girl."

"It made her feel like a girl, and she didn’t like it."

Seriously?

So fun! So entertaining! So sweet! Loved this! Addie and Tucker were awesome. I love friends to lovers’ stories and this one was excellent.

I adored Addie. She had such a great attitude and big heart. She was totally comfortable in her own skin, I loved that about her. Tucker was wonderful. So sweet and totally caught off guard by his attraction to one of his best friends. I loved learning about them and their histories growing up. It was so fun! I loved the build to their growing feelings, the looks and smiles and their simmering chemistry. They had such great banter and fun dialogue. I understood Addie and Tucker’s dilemma and why they were holding back. They both could be stubborn so there was tension as well as a lot of emotion as everything played out. I was filled with so much anticipation and couldn't wait for them to get together.

There are ups and downs and bits of drama here and there that kept things moving along at a good pace. I really liked all the guys in their group and the different dynamics they all had with each other, they were an entertaining bunch. They shared a lot of good-natured ribbing and fun but I liked how they were all truly there for each other.

This was told from dual, third-person POVs and it was done really well and I thought it had a great flow. I loved the small-town setting which was super entertaining thanks to gossipy neighbors. Those extra characters and their nosy selves had me smiling.

This was just one of those stories that I enjoyed reading; time flew by as I turned page after page. There was good conflict, a lot of sweet and a bit of heat and just the right bit of emotion and I thought it was a well-rounded story. This one was a winner!

I was originally going to give it 3 stars (because that´s what I mean this book deserves). However if you´re looking for a super fluffy, a bit predictable and feel-good book then this is definitely for you. (and its a bit unfair of me to give it 3 stars just because I was expecting something written a bit better).

My first Cindi Madsen novel and it was FANTASTIC!!! The PERFECT Friends to Lovers small town romance... I loved every bit of it. The characters. The banter. The heart pangs that hurt so good. It all felt perfectly authentic with just the right amount of believable trepidation, reluctant attraction, and self preservation warring with unexpected emotion. So so so good!!!

I’m a sucker for a good BFF to more story, but add in that it’s set in the south and I’m done.

I really liked Addie and Tucker. I enjoyed their history and banter. I liked that she was a tough smart ass who kept all of the boys in their place. He’s a little insecure about some things, but steadfast. I am 100000% here for the loyalty this group has for each other. I love love loved their friendships and it was probably the best part of the story.

Plot wise, it did drag a little for me. GR states that it’s just over 300 pages, but my physical copy was 418 and that seemed much longer than it needed to be. There was a lot of wishy-washy push pull and instead of it creating tension, it felt repetitive and stalled out. Of course the last couple of chapters are fantastic and I loved the grand gesture and epilogue.

Overall, it was the characters that kept me reading. I loved this group and I’m hoping the other men will all get their own book.

Just One of the Groomsmen was a heartwarming, friends to lovers romance.  Set in a small town in the south, with characters that will make you smile, I absolutely adored this story!  There was spice.  Angst.  And all the feels!  Addie was a tomboy surrounded by her best friends, Tucker, Shep, Ford and Easton.  And when Tucker came back to town, sparks flew between them.  While they both tried their best to deny their feelings for each other, it was impossible!

The push and pull between them was intoxicating!  And when they did toe the line, their moments together were steamy!  Add in characters that will make you laugh, like Nona, and friendship that runs so deep and this story had everything I love about small town romances.  This was my first Cindi Madsen, and I listened to the audio which was phenomenal, so I can’t wait to binge read all of her other stories!

I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. It does not impact my review.

I loved this book so much! It was such a fun, sweet Friends-to-More story and I couldn’t get enough of it.

I don’t really like to use words like “swoony” or “feels”, but Addie and Tucker made my cold, black heart feel all the feelings. I loved their friendship and I loved how it turned into more. The friendship lines aren’t really crossed until about halfway through the book and the slow burn was everything. I actually maybe enjoyed the first half of the book a teensy bit more because of it.

I also really loved their group of friends. It made me nostalgic for my high school days where I had a great group of guy friends and I was often the only girl hanging out and they definitely sometimes forgot I was, in fact, a girl. I really enjoyed when they were all together and how they joked around with each other. I could have used a lot more of that, actually. I don’t feel like we got to know all of the guys as much as I liked to. I would love for this to be a series so that could be rectified.

The only thing I didn’t really like was that there were a few too many sex scenes once Addie and Tucker got together. I could’ve done with a few less of the graphic scenes, with more focus on the relationship instead.

Overall, I loved Just One of the Groomsmen. It was fun and romantic and everything I hope for when I pick up a Contemporary Romance. I definitely recommend this one to fans of the genre.

I wanted to like this one. I really, really wanted to like it.

And, parts of it I actually did. Unfortunately, there were also parts of it I didn't love...and parts that got too long, and I ended up skimming the book. I was interested enough in it to want to know the ending and how it got there, but I wasn't invested enough to read all of the extra stuff that felt a lot like filler.

Addison and Tucker have been friends forever, she's one of the guys and part of the group. So, when all of a sudden she starts to feel differently toward Tucker, and his feelings also change toward her, there are some new complications that they need to explore.

Unfortunately, in the exploration of the feelings, there is a lot of time spent with the friends and the friendship...it pulls away from the story and it makes the book feel really long, without feeling like there was a lot of payoff in the relationship.

I liked the idea of this title, but not the execution and I am not really able to recommend it.

This book was super cute!!! It gave me all the warm and good fuzzies about love. It was perfect to read right before my wedding :)

This was such a sweet friends to lovers story with a mix of sexiness! This was my first read by Cindi Madsen and it definitely won't be my last!

What I loved about this? It's so light, fun, and the characters are so relatable! I couldn't get enough of Tucker and Addie. Their history and chemistry is so fun!!!

Despite the story being predictable it doesn't even matter. Loved the ending and the story was better than I expected and highly recommend for a summer read!!

This for me is another win for Cindi Madsen. Really adored this book and the setting.

Sweet, friends to lover story with humor and some funny awkward and also smexy stuff.

I think what I like most about her books that they are light and fun and her characters are always relatable, both guys and girls.

Also no matter how many times it has been done and written, in this case friends to lover, she always finds a new fresh sweet twist with each book.

I loved both, Tucker a bit more than Addison but not by much, both stole my heart, Of course their surrounding cast was also amazing and equally important.

Overall, a fun, sweet and sexy read that I really, really enjoyed.

I rate it 5 ★

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

It’s been a while since I have read a book by Cindi Madsen. I can’t even remember why really. I think there were maybe one or two books of hers that weren’t my thing, so I just didn’t pick up her next release or something. I’m really regretting that decision right now.

The title and cover of Just One of the Groomsmen caught my eye and my attention. I was really curious what being “just one of the groomsmen” meant. When I read the blurb, I knew I had to read. It sounded adorable! I love a good romance about best friends falling in love. I also loved the fact that Addie was “one of the guys” and how that affected the whole wedding.

Addie is one of my favorite characters I’ve read recently. She’s definitely not a demure little thing. She holds her own with the four guys she’s buddies with. I loved how she was both confident in herself, but also a little worried about being unnoticeable. I loved watching the wedding plans unfold through her eyes. It was also really entertaining when she figured out she might just have feelings for one of her best friends.

Tucker surprised me. There was more baggage in his past than I expected and it was interesting to see how that influenced the choices he made. What surprised me the most was that I expected him to be more oblivious than he was. He seemed to pick on things faster than Addie did. That was really cool. I loved that he loved Addie for who she was.

Addie and Tucker’s friendship was cool, but their falling for each other was amazing. The history they had made every little thing that went on between them mean that much more. I liked how they had to navigate their changes in feelings for each other. Not only did they have to worry about their own friendship, but the other three guys they were friends with too. It added that much more pressure to the situation and fun to the story.

As for those friends… I wanted to be friends with them, too! They had this tight bond that was just so cool. They all respected Addie and included her as one of the guys. They didn’t think she was any lesser than them in any way. I liked how everything played out between them all. I want to read books about each every one of them! (Is there a Shep and Lexi book I missed? I’m super curious about them now.) I liked how their different personalities stuck out even though they didn’t get a ton of times to show. I also loved how Lexi was instantly included and how Addie got to know her. Such good stuff in the friendship department in this book!

I can’t leave out the setting. This book was set in a small town. That small town had a life of its own with all the characters in it. I adored the gossiping women, Addie’s Nonna, and all the other people who made appearances. They made the book that much more fun!

Just One of The Groomsmen has to be one of the cutest contemporary romances I’ve read in a long time. It was right up there with my favorite Lauren Layne, Jill Shalvis, and Kristan Higgins romances. I absolutely adored it!

He took hold of her hand and ran his thumb over her knuckles, and corresponding zips fired up her arm and twisted through her core. “But you’re a softie, Addison Murphy.”

“Say somethin’ like that again, and I’m gonna push you in for reals.” It came out too breathy to effectively scare him. Not that she thought many of her threats scared him anyway.

His low laugh danced across her nerve endings. “Wouldn’t you miss me too much?”

Obviously he was kidding, but her eyes met his and her thoughts turned literal. She’d already missed him for two years, and if she ruined their friendship by pushing for more, it’d almost be worse than missing him, because she’d have to do it while living in the same town. “I really would.”

Using his grip on her hand, he drew her in for a hug and she let herself relax into it. As much as she could, anyway, considering her whirring thoughts and racing heart.

The quiet crept in again, neither of them moving. As if both of them were scared of what might happen if they said or did the wrong thing. Or maybe she was alone in that. The more she thought about the complications that would come about if she told him her feelings for him were growing stronger—and in a totally not platonic way—the tighter the band around her chest became. Fear took over, whispering how crossing lines could ruin everything between them, and then she’d lose him all over again, but for good this time.

*It probably makes me a coward, but I can’t risk it. Too much could go so very wrong. *

Addie broke the hug, glanced at the water, and steered the conversation down a side street. “A few years ago, we went to visit some of my mom’s Yankee cousins, and one morning while we were there, I woke up to a scream that made me shoot right out of bed. I seriously thought I was rushin’ toward a crime scene. My cousin had gone to take a shower, but there was a spider in one corner. I grabbed a tissue and killed it. Then I told her at least you could smash a spider; if you stepped on an alligator all he got was mad. She seriously looked at me like I was from the backwoods.”

“You are from the backwoods.” Tucker swung his arm, encompassing the lake and the shadowy trees along the shore. “Exhibit A.”

“Well, counselor, I prefer to think of it as the front woods.” She shivered as the breeze kicked up a notch, and Tucker rubbed his hands up and down her arms. He noticed so much, and she couldn’t help wondering if he could see right through her. If he already knew she’d been warring with her feelings for him.

Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a decent friends to lover romance. Addie is a tomboy with a close relationship to several childhood boys. She's especially close to Tucker who is now back in town for one of their friends wedding. Things get more serious between them when Tucker realizes he's sexually attracted to her. This novel would have been great if it weren't for the fact that 50 percent of the time Tucker has to remind Addie about how sexy she is and she has to deflate all the comments about her being less of a girl. Her relative even asked her if she was lesbian. Just ridiculous. And it took away from the story because she was self conscious about her appearance and her appeal to Tucker.
I just wish she was more confident and that those around her didn't question her appeal. Tomboy doesn't mean unsexy or gay.

This romantic comedy is the first book I have read by author, Cindi Madsen, and I enjoyed it. The lighthearted, yet strong relationship between the five lifelong friends was so endearing, and realistic. Addie, Easton, Ford, Shep (Will) and Tucker had been friends in highschool, college and remained friends into adulthood. When Shep announced that he is getting married, the group are okay with it, even though it could break up the group. When Shep announces that they are all going to be groomsmen, they are thrilled. There is one catch though, Addie will be a groomsman, but his fiance, Alex, wants her to dress like the bridesmaids. Addie doesn't wear dresses, and she certainly doesn't wear heels, but she will do it for her friend. What happens when one of the gang, realizes that his feelings for his "best friend" have changed, especially when he realized what a special, smart, gorgeous, strong woman she really is.

I really enjoyed this story. I loved the closeness of this group of friends, their easy camaraderie, their banter and the way they would do anything for each other. Addie was wonderful. She had finally accepted that she would be a spinster, as she had not found anyone she cared enough about. She had no idea how remarkable she was. She had no female friends and when Alex became her friend, I was so happy for both of them. The relationship between her and Tucker started off so sweet, and when they realized what they could be together, WOW! Add in Addie's family, I loved her Nonna Lucia, a puppy named Flash, and the townsfolk with all their minor legal problems and meddling and you have a wonderful setting and cast of characters. I rooted for Addie and Tucker to get over all the hurdles that were in their way to become a couple in the fullest way possible. This was an entertaining story with fun dialogue, a great setting, wonderful characters, a well-written story and just enough angst to make the making up interesting. There is some sex in the story, which is not my favourite, but it is not too graphic and it can be skimmed if you choose, without causing any issue with the story. I recommend this one to anyone who enjoys romantic comedy, you will laugh, you will thoroughly enjoy this story.

This a really sweet friends to lovers romance. When it started I wasn't sure I would enjoy it as much as I did the writing seemed a bit stilted or something but one chapter or so in and the writing took on a nice easy flow and you got absorbed into the story of Tucker and addie.

Who have been best friends all their lives along with 3 other guys, then Tucker took a job in the city and for the past two years he kind of neglected Addie. anyway he has moved back to town now and after seeing Addie's legs he starts to see her in a different way and things start to develop.

I love the burn leading up to them getting together and it was nice to see them start a loving physical relationship. I felt really bad for Addie at times, they guys kept insisting she wasn't a girl those kind of comments when she wanted to be appealing and sexy for tucker. He thought she was but she had to put up with a fair amount of stick.

Then there was LExi who was one of the other guys fiancé (may belong to another book this one is my first for this author) anyway Lexi flips the lid when she find out Shep (her fiance) and Addie used to date innocently and briefly in high school! I thought Lexi was horrible and made a tool of herself ..she did redeem herself later but I felt so sorry for the way Addie was treated while waiting to find out if she could still be in the wedding.

Overall I really liked the story but the ending was Still cute though!

At least half of why I requested the ARC of this title had to do with the cover. It is so cute and vibrant and reminded me of another book (also about a wedding) that I loved. I had never heard of this author, but this will certainly not be the last book I read by her. I was delighted with this book within the first few pages, and it only got better as it went on, overall.

Addison (Addie) has unequivocally always been one of the guys (a set-up in fiction that isn't always enjoyable to read, for me). The extent to which she is "one of the guys" is so intense that she doesn't really have any female friends, and she doesn't relate extremely well to other women including her sister. The story starts off with one of the guys in her close-knit group of friends announcing his engagement and another of the guys (who Addie has always been closest to) moving back home to their small town.

I love stories when you know what will happen but not how the characters will get there, and that's what happens here. I love knowing how each character is feeling before they have shared those feelings with one another. This is part of the fun of reading!!

The setting is quite important in this novel, and I look forward to revisiting it in future books because small-town craziness in which everyone is in your business is just funny and endearing when done well.

I loved Tucker and Addie's history, and their chemistry was great. The ending was predictable but wonderful and I loved the epilogue. This book was better than I was expecting and I don't hesitate to recommend it as a fun summer read if you like contemporary romance.

Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled for the ARC of this cute romantic comedy in exchange for an honest review.

I had a really hard time getting through this book, and almost DNF'd it several times - and I don't know why!! I got really annoyed at the repeated use of the phrase "crossing lines" - it's seriously in there way too many times and there's got to be some other ways of saying this. I'm not even sure what it means? It wasn't used in a way that was like "this is the friendship line and we are crossing over it," but almost like in fishing type of way where your lines get crossed and have the potential to get all tangled up? Ugh, I dunno. Also, I get that they're southerners, but the way the dialogue was done was really annoying to me and way too heavy handed getting across their dialect.

All that aside, Just One of the Groomsmen is a cute book with a fun concept. I love Addie's "boys," and her Nonna is that great crazy older lady character I love. I really like the way her relationship with Shep's fiance, Lexi, develops. There are a lot of really great elements here, but heavy handed use of dialect and the phrase "crossed lines" just pushed me into "let this book freakin' END already" territory, which is unfortunate.

Thank You @entangledpublishing for sending me JUST ONE OF THE GROOMSMEN By Cindi Madsen.

Addison is one of the guys and always has been. But what happens when Tucker Crawford returns to town and he and Addison discover they might be more than friends?

So if you haven’t figured out yet... I’m a shoo in for sappy romance novels. This fulfilled my needs. It was predictable, you knew they’d fall in love... but it’s a romance DUH! It’s a unique twist on romance with the wedding involved and the characters are just outstanding! Especially the main characters Addie and Tucker. Tucker is a dreamboat by the way! They have such a great, fun, loving, easy going friendship and to see it blossom into more was fun and had my heart racing. I will be reading this book again and again RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I enjoyed the characters but felt the story moved too slowly. While I did enjoy the book, I didn't love it as much as I hoped I would. I don't mind slow burns, but I think I would have liked this a lot better if the romance moved faster. I would describe Just One of the Groomsmen as lighthearted chic-lit. I found it easy to read and well written, but not as memorable as I'd hoped.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from Net Galley. This had no influence on my review.

Just One of the Groomsmen was my introduction to Cindi Madsen. This will definitely not be the last of her books that I read. Abbie and Tucker have been best friends since forever. Tucker is a lawyer in the big city. He became so wrapped up in his job and had no time for himself that he realized he wasn't happy. So, he took the plunge and quit his job and went back home to Uncertainty. That is where he knew he would be happy and where all his friends are. When he first got home and saw a great pair of legs sticking out from beneath a car he couldn't believe it was Abbie. He starts to look at Abbie in a different way and doesn't know what to do with these feelings.

Abbie is a physical therapist in Uncertainty but her boss is a real ogre. She is so happy when Tucker returns home. He had been so busy when he was away that their phone calls and texts became few and far between. He even had to cancel trips home because his job had to take precedence. Abbie is 'one of the guys' . She always has been. She is most comfortable in sweats or yoga pants and a sweatshirt. Besides Tucker she is one of the gang with the boys. She plays football with them and even plays poker with them....and she is very good. She starts to have feelings for Tucker and doesn't know what to make of them. She doesn't want to ruin the frienship they have.

I loved following Abbie and Tucker's rocky road to...is it friendship or love? I loved every minute of this story and finished with a smile on my face.

I loved this book and could not put it down. In fact, I wasn't too busy at work and read some of it there (but don't tell my boss!).

This small town in Alabama has a group of friends, 4 guys and 1 girl, that bonded and became the best of friends. Now one of them is getting married and it has brought back one friend to share in the celebration. Tucker doesn't know what hits him when he sees Addie's legs sticking out from under a car. All of a sudden, she is more than just one of the guys. The same holds true for Addie, something happens when she sees Tucker again and she tries to fight it but is losing that battle pretty quickly.

This book moves along very quickly and I loved the interactions between all of the friends and then between Addie and Lexi (Shep's fiancee) especially when Lexi asks Addie's help in planning the wedding. Ummm, Addie has no idea about some of those but because Shep is one of her best friends, she will do whatever it takes to help out.

The story is not without its ups and downs, misunderstandings, and crazy antics from all of the characters. It does show us that true friendship will go to any length to keep that sacred.

This is one of my favorite books this year and major props to the author for only including a couple of f* bombs.
