For the first time in his life, Rain Ryland belongs. He’s found a home with the wolf shifters of New Wurzburg and is no-holds-barred in love with Friederike Burkhart, their soon-to-be alpha. But the ascension to power is never easy for a new alpha, and challengers will come from an unlikely source—and bring into jeopardy not just Freddie’s position as alpha but her blooming relationship with Rain.
Rain has never shied away from a challenge—or a fight. And he’s ready to fight like hell for the woman he loves. But then a vision shows him that the biggest challenge of all to Freddie isn’t to her alpha status but against her life...and he’s the one who delivers the killing blow.
The Haven series is best enjoyed in order. Reading Order: Book #1 Haven Book #2 Havoc
Mary Lindsey is a multi-award-winning, RITA nominated author of romance for adults and teens. She lives on the Texas Gulf Coast with her ever-patient husband, two cantankerous Cairn Terriers, and twenty-six bossy chickens.
Havoc by Mary Lindsey is the second book in the young adult fantasy Haven series. The events in Havoc pick up shortly after where the first book of the series, Haven, left off. As this is a continuing story it is definitely better to start at the beginning and read from book one to get the full character and world building within this fantasy series.
The story began in Haven with Aaron “Rain” Ryland who had to grown up tough to survive life on the streets in the city with his mother. Nicknamed Rain early on after his mother said that Rain was the dark cloud that followed her in life Rain never expected to amount to much or succeed in life. When Rain’s mother passed away suddenly however Rain thought he’d been left all alone until a court ordered him to head to the small town of New Wurzburg to live with an aunt Rain never knew existed.
After arriving in New Wurzburg Rain found himself drawn to a group of kids that seemed to be on the outside of the rest of the students in school or more specifically Rain was drawn to Friederike Burkhart. There was just something different about Freddie, the tough as nails leader of the group of outsiders, that grabbed Rain’s attention. Freddie tried to warn Rain that danger surrounded her but Rain had never backed down from a challenge a day in his life and he’s was not about to start but he never expected that a whole new world would be found in this little town.
In my review of Haven I described this as a bit of Beauty and the Beast meets Twilight with a gender swapping tale that breaks all of the genre molds. It began much the same way as Twilight heading to the small supernatural infested town but forget the whimpy lead and swap in a street smart male. Since I actually did enjoy Twilight I didn’t mind the similarities and loved that the author did build her own little supernatural world in New Wurzburg with the Watchers and Weavers and thought at the end she definitely needed to continue to build on it as at the time it seemed a standalone but now we have Havoc. While this time around the story seemed to lack a bit of sparkle that the first had, I think because of the separation of Rain and Freddie maybe, I didn’t think this was quite five stars but it sure was fun going back to New Wurzburg and reading the what happened next for these characters. Not sure if this will continue after Havoc but I’m sure there could potentially be more things to come so I’d still love to come back again and expand on the story.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
The sequel to Haven. I was absolutely in love with the first book so when this was announced I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. This is a continuous story and the first book needs to be read to fully appreciate this story.
So Freddie got her man and all was looking well by the end of Haven but being an alpha means life’s never that simple. When a familiar face turns up Freddie can smell trouble.
Rain is new to the shifter/ magic community and he makes a good narrative guide for us to understand this new world. There are some great concepts and twists I didn’t see coming.
I really enjoyed this new world. I’d recommend reading the two books close together as my memory was a little foggy in parts (I read the first book about a year ago).
This is a new adventure with the gritty storyline you’d expect from this series.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
New Wuzburgs best-kept secret is the watcher and weaver communities, however, the secret may just be out of the bag, thanks to some unexpected visitors.
In the sequel to Haven, Havoc sees the Watcher community trying to break free from the tight restrictions of the weaver community. This fight for independence serves as the core for the general unrest that turns these two communities upside down.
The icing on the cake for me is the characters. Sometimes, they sound like lost kids navigating a series of unfortunate events which added authenticity to the plotline. I appreciated that the author respected the ages written in the novel and matched their actions to suit
Freddie, soon to be alpha has her hands full with a blast from the past and a surprise twist is sent her way in the form of a marriage agreement set before her birth. I liked that Freddie always thinks about those around her before herself, which is such a great trait for an incoming alpha.
Rain, oh Rain, this guy cannot catch a break, just when he thought he got his happily ever after and he could "run-off" into the sunset with his girl, reality serves a solid NOPE.
My absolute favorite is Petra, she truly has grown so much from the first book and is finally embracing the weird. As her powers seem to amplify and the odds continue to stack against her, she begins to understand the concept of friendship and having people to rely on which was touching.
It would be remiss of me not to mention Grant and his iron-clad loyalty, this guy is solid af- and honestly, I would want some like Grant looking out and loving me with this sincere intensity.
As situations start unfolding, the drama escalates and our beloved characters are fighting for their lives without really knowing the rules. Can Freddie do whatever it takes to be alpha of her pack, even if it means giving up Rain? Or will she break the binding agreement for the sake of love?
Sacrifices must be made, both of the heart and the spirit.
Spoiler- the smut is very minimal, as soon as it escalates the writer drifts off which was slightly frustrating for me because if you are building it up you better deliver!
I received an arc from the author and Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
04-05: 'Havoc' is book two in the Haven series by Mary Lindsey, a YA paranormal romance where the balance between wolf shifters and witches has never been equal. While the shifters are looking to achieve their freedom from the dominance of the witches, a group that controls everything they do.. right down to who they can pair up with, others want to see them kept in their place.
Though I didn't read the first book, this one was very easy to pick up with. Pertinent major events from the debut title, Haven, were referenced and explained in passing, so that everything still made sense.
Pacing is very solid throughout the story, plenty of action and emotional drama to keep the reader turning pages, making it a quick read. In fact, most of the story is just really well-executed. My one minor complaint is the conclusion is done in a quick information dump.. like the author didn't know a better way to convey all the little details she'd held onto. Almost all of it was delivered by the same character in a conversation with another.. and the effect was if felt like sort of a Scooby Doo ending, which is sad.. because the book deserved better.
That one small thing aside, I really enjoyed the story. I loved Rain, who is exactly my type of character. His background was unpleasant, but he's loyal and loving.. desperate to hang onto the bit of happiness he's found. The rest of the group is interesting as well.. Merrick, Petra, and Freddie are all pretty richly textured, likeable people.. and the dynamic with Grant is amusing in spots.
The author definitely tried to drop hints with the intention the reader would either overlook them or forget them, so they'd have that moment later where they realized they should have spotted the anomaly.. but they weren't very subtle. Rather than dropping a clue, sometimes Lindsey would outline the entire area with them before moving on.. but really that's just lack of experience where some finesse would have gone farther to achieving her goal.
As with all skills though, we only get better with time.. and with so few constructive criticisms to be stated, I look forward to seeing more work from her in the future. If you like underdog stories (no pun intended) and paranormal worlds, this one is probably for you.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Havoc is the second installment in the Haven series. The one good thing about this was that it picked up right where the previous one ended. After finally getting her man, Freddie doesn't expect a certain someone to walk back into her life. From this point on, we were both suspicious of what was going to happen next.
I feel like I might have a likable character. Don't get me wrong, Freddie and Rain were likable in the first one but I did like Rain a lot more. In this one, though, I definitely enjoyed Petra the most. There's just something about her that had me intrigued the entire time. She's weird but adorkable. Plus her powers were very interesting.
Other than that, the watcher community was trying to break away from weaver communities strict restrictions. The fight between the two communities was pretty interesting to begin with but then it kind of got boring for me.
In the end, sacrifices were made and the drama came for everyone. I'm glad that I took a chance on this series and I wonder if there's going to be another book?
It has been awhile since I've read Haven, so I was afraid I might not remember anything. Luckily, I remembered enough within the first couple chapters of Havoc.
This is a book two, so there will be spoilers from book one below.
Rain and Freddie's relationship had been going well. Actually, almost perfect. Rain liked being a wolf, but the thing he liked most was just being with Freddie. When some strangers show up in town, everything goes to hell. There is a contract about Freddie that she didn't know about. She and Rain can't be together. They can't even talk. There are other weird things going on. Petra has been sealing bodies correctly, but they are somehow becoming revenants. She sees the future and it's not good. After Rain eats a cookie, he sees Freddie's death. At that point, his only real plan is to find a way to save her. Rain, Petra, and Grant are all working on ways to prevent bad things from happening. Freddie wants to follow her father's visions for the Watchers, a progressive movement. But there are a lot of people who would do anything to stop her, even if it meant killing her.
A lot of the book focuses on Freddie and Rain's relationship. Mostly Rain's feelings. But it also talked about oppression. The Watchers are treated as less than. They were considered animals to breed and keep watch over The Weavers. The inequality is a huge focus. Right in the beginning, we see that someone wants to create chaos between the groups to start a civil war. They figure that a war will prevent Freddie's agenda of equality and less separation.
I gave this book 4 stars. Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for my review copy.
Warnings for drug addiction, homelessness, oppression and talk of civil war/slavery, gore, death.
I really enjoyed this story about teenage Werewolves even though its been quite a while since I was a teenager. Essentially we have Witches and Shifters and for centuries the Werewolves were protectors of the Witches and pretty much treated as inferior beasts. Freddie wants to change that and together with Rain she's ready to stand up for equality and banish the enslavement of her kind . Change might be inevitable but many still fear it and actively fight it ! This story was well written and well thought out. I enjoyed the romance aspect and at times it was so sad but Rain was truly the star of this book. He might still be new to this world and its politics but he is brave, loyal and very focused. Freddie is in a difficult position as she's about to become the official Alpha so in many ways her hands were tied although I wanted her to just rally her Pack and tell the vile tribunal to just stick it ! However the author isn't as violent as me clearly because her plot wound up all the loose ends effectively and with little bloodshed. A very good mixture of suspense, angst, romance and magic. Yes I recommend this book to readers of all ages. This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Havoc, by author Mary Lindsey, is the second installment in the authors Haven series. This story takes place 5 months after the ending of Haven. So, let's rewind a bit since the last installment came out in 2017, and then was delayed until this year. The primary storyteller is Aaron "Rain" Ryland. Rain, who spent time homeless, then found himself in the Texas Hill Country town of New Wurzburg after learning that he has an aunt, Ruby, who works for the New Wurzburg Police Department. What he didn't understand is that New Wurzburg is a community that is masking a struggle between Watchers and Weavers.
Almost three years ago, Mary Lindsey introduced me to the young adult genre with Haven, the first book in her Haven series. To say I patiently waited for the follow-up story would be a lie. I could not wait to read Havoc. I might have sent quarterly emails to everyone I could think of, looking for a status update. In the end, I’m glad Havoc didn’t come out two years ago when it was originally scheduled. I don’t think I would have fully grasped all the events and parallelism to real life today.
Technically, Havoc can be considered a standalone read. Since there was a huge gap between book releases, I did forget some details from Haven that I wish I would have remembered. But for everything that was really truly important to the story, Mary mentioned.
Five months ago, Aaron “Rain” Ryland’s life was changed forever, in more ways than one. He moved from Houston to New Wurzburg, a small town in Texas Hill Country, where he found he had family, a home, friends, and a place where he belonged. But it all came at a price. New Wurzburg isn’t the small sleepy town it appears to be. There’s magic and creatures that go bump in the night and sometimes the day. Rain, his girlfriend Freddie, and Freddie’s entire family are wolf shifters, known as Watchers. Their centuries-old job is to watch over and protect witches, known as Weavers when they are casting spells. This isn’t something the Watchers want to do. The Weavers force them to do so. In the end, the lives of the Watchers are not their own.
Freddie’s father Hans was outspoken with his progressive way of thinking. He wanted the Watchers to be free of the Weavers and be of equal status. However, there are some who believe Watchers are inferior and need to be controlled. Hans’s fight for freedom ultimately got him killed. After her father’s death, Freddie has fought to be crowned the new alpha of the New Wurzburg Watcher pack. The induction ceremony is fast approaching and Freddie is looking forward to continuing the fight in her father’s memory. That is until a group of mysterious strangers shows up with plans of their own. In order to protect his new family, friends, and everyone he loves, Rain is going to have to rely on his heart and street smarts to protect them all.
Mary has written an engrossing and very timely story, dealing with race, segregation, and servitude, all under a paranormal umbrella. I loved the mystery of trying to figure out what was happening and just who could and couldn’t be trusted. Every single character added something to the story. Havoc lived up to its name. The story was gripping and at times sad. It leaves you mourning the events of the past while hoping for a better tomorrow. At the same time wondering if things will ever really change. One thing is for certain, the lives of the Watchers, Weavers, and strangers who live in and visited New Wurzburg will be forever changed.

What a great continuation to the story. Rain and Freddie have a little “down time” between this and the last book. Petra on the other hand, not so much. The flow of the story felt less choppy than book 1.
I actually liked book 2 better than book 1 because it shows 2 completely different females that are equally strong and powerful. I love their feistiness. The core group of friends they have around them, helps them get through the hard stuff.
Rain is such a great character. Dude has a hard upbringing and believes that he doesn’t deserve happiness but once he lets people in, he’s a total softy! I absolutely love that he’s the one that is able to see through all the bs and reaches and embraces Petra.
There were a fair amount of suspense moments and this time I felt like it didn’t take away from the story. A lot happens, so many secrets and curveballs and even though it was a quick read for me, I didn’t feel rushed.
The ending left me unsure if this is a duology or if there’s gonna be a sequel, which I’m totally on board to read!
HAVOC is an intriguing continuation of a YA paranormal romance. In this world, witches and werewolves live side by side with the witches being called Weavers and the werewolves called Watchers treated like their pets. Watchers are supposed to protect the witches while they are casting. Their role has been one of servitude with the witches carrying breeding logs and forcing inhumane practices on them of subservience with trackers, lethal punishments, and the use of mating only to produce the strongest offspring.
Things are changing with Freddie soon to become the Alpha of her pack. She has a vision for change in the treatment of Watchers and their role in paranormal society. As with any changes, this will be hard-fought. The trouble is already beginning with tensions running high, accusations flying every which way, and now a surprise force breaking Rain and Freddie apart - even though she and Rain are clearly meant for each other.
What I loved: There are some really interesting themes in the book about equality and power as well as the corruption of it. This book could function as a stand-alone, as the major plots in the first book were tied up, and this sequel presents its own conflicts which are also concluded within. The characters do carry across, and it would be helpful to read them in order, but the major points that are needed to enjoy this book are recapped (also helpful if you have not read the first one in a while). This book was action-packed and moves quickly, which I appreciated as it was a fun read overall. The mystery of what was going on really keeps the pages turning.
What left me wanting more: Although present throughout, the romance takes a backseat here, and I wanted more of it. There were also some plotlines that felt wrapped up a little too abruptly, and I wanted a bit more lead up/reasoning to their resolution. The ending felt a bit rushed and too neat on some things. I also had some feelings about the villain, and I think I needed a bit more information on that to fully buy in. These were all relatively minor in my mind.
Final verdict: Overall, fans of the first book will be delighted to spend more time in this intriguing magical world. HAVOC is a fast-paced and intriguing sequel to a YA paranormal romance series. I would be curious to see if more books will follow.
Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Havoc by Mary Lindsey starts with a scene that feels like it could be an opening scene from Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a young woman beheading zombies (they call them revenants). Written so well and so compelling, I was an excited little reader. But that scene is not this book. Unfortunately. And, equally, unfortunately, parts of that scene are never quite explained.
Anyway. We are back in New Wurzburg, which we visited in 2017 in Haven (my review of that book is here) and which feels like a billion years ago and considering this past year may have been a billion years ago. Rain, our human-turned-werewolf hero, is together with pack alpha Freddie, but their happiness is imperiled by a group from Germany who possess a contract that shows that Freddie must be married to one from their pack. If Rain and Freddie disobey, Rain will be killed.
In tandem, one of my favorite characters from Haven, Petra, who also happens to be the zombie/revenant killing witch from the prologue, has been arrested for failing to do her job of sealing the magic in the dead. But she’s being set up and Rain believes that it’s too much of a coincidence that the Germans show up, separate him and Freddie, and then Petra is arrested.
Havoc is best in my mind when Rain is playing sleuth and in the company of Grant and Petra. The action scenes are thrilling and fast-paced. I don’t much care for Freddie any more this time around than I did in the first book. In contrast, I think Petra is cool and would have seen a lot more of her, or even her own book, which seems unlikely now considering how Havoc ended. The scenes in which Rain and Freddie are together are not my favorite. I also have a severe “meh” feeling when he gets jealous and his wolf wants to rise to the surface–it’s more of a Neanderthal reaction than his character deserves.
While I’d love to tell you that this is a standalone–and I imagine that it could be very well read as one–so much of the fascinating world-building was done in Haven and it explains so much. Without having read that first book, I don’t think the second would have the necessary impact. Havoc is a very good sequel, perhaps not as strong as the first book but a thrilling ride nonetheless.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Moral of the story is that Rain seriously can not catch a break! This boy keeps finding himself in terrible situations, and only his own street smarts, level head and sheer determination are the tools needed to save the day. This sequel took the happy ending of Haven and ripped it apart, leaving a devastated Rain only a week to pick up the pieces of his life as well as solve a dangerous and deadly mystery and get the girl he loves before the Alpha cerimony.
The plot was fast paced and engaging, the mystery was twisty, and the action was fabulous, but my favorite part of this story was the characters. I just adore Rain, I would not change a thing about him and I like the spin on this series that he is the narrator and perfectly open about his feelings and past with the reader. Another twist I enjoy about this series is that Freddie is the alpha all powerful wolf as a teenage girl and for the most part, most people accept it as fact. But we also have some other great side characters like Grant with his unknown motivations and the wereolf pack/ cousins to help balance out the dynamic. Can we just spend a minute talking about how badass Petra was? She singlehandedly was fighting off all the zombies on her own, totally handaling it like it was just another day- which in her life, it totally was. I know Freddie is considered the ultimate female here since she is the Alpha werewolf and super dominant, but Petra I think is right up there and can hold her own. I would love for her to get her own book in this world! Ok, tangent over.
I feel like where most things were tied up well, this sequel felt a little like there could be a third book in the series. I had no idea there was going to be a second with how perfect the ending was to Haven, but with this I think another book could be an option- but maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part since I am not sure I am ready to say goodbye to Rain and this moderetely dysfunctional werewolf pack. I think this siries is perfect for anyone who loves a solid and empathetic narrator who tries to do the right thing, girls taking charge, all things werewolf, shady yet powerful witches and even a zombie or two thrown in.
This is the second book to the Haven series, we get Rain and Freddie's story. A fast paced full of adventures, friendship and conspiracy. This book will have you entertained for a while, I liked the characters and the romance portrayed for a YA book. If you haven't read book one you can read it directly as the author took the refreshing of what happened in book one. There are werewolves and witches in a full urban fantasy story. Looking forward to reading more from the author in the future.
***Thank you to Entangled Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review***
Havoc is the 2nd book in the series. You will definitely want to read Haven first as it sets up a lot of the plot in this story. You have a great story in the first one that tells you who the MC is and what he's been through. There are some side characters as well that you will want to get to know before you dive into this story.
What I really liked about the book is that Rain is new to the community (I don't want to spoil anything!) and we get to learn about the community and such with him, side by side. I truly enjoy that so the Author isn't info-dumping me with a bunch of magic systems/caste systems etc. It was really enjoyable as well to develop with Rain and grow.
When a relationship is going perfect we can't have it stay that way can we? That would make for a very boring book if so! I really enjoyed this "wrench" in their plans so to speak. When there is a contract that comes to light on Freddie she is forced to stay away from Rain. This got very exciting for me because I love angst, I love drama and I really love when MC's have to overcome obstacles.
Things are also not looking good for the entire community around them. There are glimpses into the future that predict bad things are coming if something isn't changed or done.
All the characters are very likeable. I feel that the Author really meshed their personalities together and really developed the characters around the MC's to create this group of people that together could get things done.
If this is the end to the series I was very satisfied BUT if there is STILL more to come...I'm completely on board!
PLEASE. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NaMe OF THIS BOOK/SERIES??? Okay. Help me out here please, I’m trying to find the name of a book/series, and I cannot remember if it is this one. The main things I remmember is that there was a love interest between the main female character and this other guy. The guy had like his own band of friends/warriors (I can’t rly remember the details, I think they would all go hunting or something) anywayyyyy this guy was like ‘connected to nature’ or something and it allowed him to walk silently through forests, among other things. I remember two key scenes in the novel: 1. The guy was riding his horse in the forest and he needed a disguise to hide from guards/ppl so he got the vines to grow up around him and his horse and he was perceived to be this old-wives-tale character or something, but in this science he was also very weak I believe 2. The main female character was spying in this church/convent thing where they had to pray and do all there rituals, there were guards there who would often hit the ppl if they did the wrong things. The main character had the friends of her romantic interest (mentioned above) also disguised there and they would hit her with the sticks but it would only be loud and not actually hurt. Eventually they escaped through the sewers.
PLEASE. DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NaMe OF THIS BOOK/SERIES???
If you loved Haven, this long-awaited continuation has all the romance, shifters, and magic you could have asked for. We follow the same characters as they embrace their new roles and hone in on their fresh powers.
What I Liked:
combination of witches (my favorite), shifters, and magic wielders same characters, different plot – loved their continued development equality – a female as the alpha of the pack that YA Fantasy feel but set in the real world recaps the first book enough to rejog your memory lighter romance
What I Didn’t Like:
romance felt a little “young” for my current tastes ending felt rushed Rain’s dialogue – didn’t flow well, felt like he talked in short pieces/botched
But overall, I really enjoyed reading on in this paranormal world. While I wasn’t as blown away as the first, I still give this book a solid 3 out of 5 stars. I think it’s just the fact that I’ve been reading for adult stories that the younger dialogues can sometimes feel a little ‘young‘ for my taste.
If you loved book one, I definitely recommend picking Havoc up right away!

** Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for this eArc**
I'd like to start off by saying reading the two of these books (Haven & Havoc) close together was highly beneficial. I think going to far apart might make things a little confusing going back into the world.
With that said, book 2 focused a little more on the relationship of our main MC's and I really enjoyed that aspect. While I thoroughly enjoyed the world building from book 1, I'm a sucker for human (or lack thereof) connection.
This book focused a lot more on 'world' issues and the social issues inlaid within, and the injustices focused on the castes and I thought that was well done and I really enjoyed the interwoven storylines.
The story as a whole felt like it was really building up and I loved that climb, it didn't feel stagnant - I think this would and should be more recommended to those who are very into and love paranormal - and I cannot wait to see more from these characters and world!
** Of note, I would say while I recognize this is YA, I would like things to feel a little more *grittier* it just has that feel to it, and I'd love to see that explored.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review
Trigger warnings for homelessness, oppression and drug addition
In this world, witches and shifters live side by side, but the shifters are viewed as less than the witches. The role of the shifters is to watch over the witches while they perform spells, but there is a major power embalance present between the two.
I really enjoyed this book. I didn't read Haven't but all of the major plot points were well done and there was no confusion. In this book, Rain and Freddie are forced apart as tensions are running high and there is someone trying to start a civil war. They believe that war will prevent Freddie from following her father's ideals about the watchers.
Most of the book focuses on the relationship between Rain and Freddie, especially how Rain feels. I think the book needed more romance, as it seemed to take a bit of a back seat in this book, however, the exciting plot made up for it.
My only complaint is that at the end there seemed to be a large information dump that the book really didn't need, and ended up suffering from.

H by Mary Lindsey is book two in the Haven story. The book is not a stand-lone. I recommend to read the books in order. The previous book is Haven. Haven by Mary Lindsey, published by Entangled LLC Teens , is book one in the Haven Series. Rain is a teen who never fitted in. Always the outsider he's about to find hid fate in New Wurzburg. Friederike Burkhart is in great danger when their pathes cross. Rain better stays away, but he just can't. Haven is the first installment in this series, action packed, fast paced, excellent written, suspenseful till the last page. H picks up where Haven was left off. Rain and Freddie are in for the next part in their lives, the next fast paced, action packed adventure in their pnr world of shifters and other beings. A excellent written book, 4,5 stars.
Rain Ryland found a good life in New Wurzburg. He is adjusting to his life as a werewolf, he is happy living with his aunt, and he is in love with Freddie, the new pack Alpha. Rain's happiness is threatened when a group of watchers and weavers arrive and challenge his future with Freddie while a new magical threat appears and endangers the pack. Can Rain save his pack and keep his new love?
I have enjoyed all of the other books I have read by Mary Lindsey, but I found Havoc disappointing. The story didn't add much to the characters' stories, and the conflict was more frustrating than intriguing. I like the author's writing and will keep reading her work, but I didn't love this one.
I received an eARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Rain and Freddie are perfectly content with their present lives and the future they’ve planned together until her mother shows up. Freddie’s mother left her at birth and shows up unannounced and brings not-so-good news of a contract signed when Freddie was hours young. If Freddie doesn’t completely cut ties with Rain and marry Conrad, Rain will be killed. People are getting hurt, being attacked and being accused of illegal acts. The mystery becomes more complicated and complex before it begins to unravel. Strong characters and brave actions made me root for them. A fun read, 4 stars!
Hard to put down. Action packed mixed with a mystery. Freddie and Rain have their hands full again with trying to figure out who is out to get them. Someone is wanting a war between the shifters and witches. The younger group is starting to replace the elders but not easily or with much support. While Freddie and Rain are separated by circumstances beyond their control, Rain becomes friends with Petra. Story is fast paced.
This book had potential and we enjoyed the first book in this series but this book was disappointing. Havoc felt like rehashing of "Haven" and didn’t move along the characters’ stories. We enjoyed this author's previous writing and we will keep reading but this book was unsatisfying.
We received an eARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
3.5 stars It’s been four years since the first book, Haven, came out, so I decided to reread it before I even opened this new release. I enjoyed the first book on my second reading, though this time I didn’t get the fun of not knowing exactly what kind of tale to expect. The mystery made it particularly compelling. Havoc just picked up mostly where the first ended, and it followed a similar formula as the first, which is to be expected, but it lacked the novelty of the first, so I didn’t get into it as much. Still a pretty good supernatural romance. Read my full review, including a rating for content, at RatedReads.com: https://ratedreads.com/havoc-haven-yo...
Reading Rate: **** Romance: *** Recommend if you liked: Crave series, Shiver, Shadowhunters Havoc picks up right where Haven left off. Rain and Freddie and enjoying their summer together and preparing for her to ascend as Alpha. When strangers arrive in town accompanied by Freddie’s estranged mother it causes the couple to have to separate for their and those of the ones that they love. What I liked: - I enjoyed getting to spend more time with the characters I grew to love in Haven - Like the first book I loved the characters and the darkness of the world she created. While it sticks to YA it is an intense emotional and even at times a little creepy. What I struggled with: - While there were more characters that joined the story they did not have a lot of development - While there was a ton going on and so many people that could possibly be the villain in this story I found I was able to predict the outcome much easier in this book than the first.
Overall I enjoyed the series and while I preferred the first book to the second I still think it makes for one good storyline when read back to back. I will certainly be picking up new releases from Lindsey in the future. Thank you to Mary Lindsey and Entangled Teen for a copy of Havoc in exchanged for my honest opinion.
